The new season is not far away now. I am looking forward to it. Champions Liverpool will open the new season with an evening home game against Bournemouth on Friday 15th August. I hope to watch it, is it one of the games you will try to watch?

Liverpool vs Bournemouth...  Sure I'd watch it if I have nothing better to do.  I like both but I especially like Bournemouth.  Didn't expect them to look more decent after Eddie Howe left. The fans, club and players still want him to stay so nothing will change if he decides to return to the club - they would move on like it never happened. He's not the fit player to go AWOL and return.

If they sell Garnacho it has to be for a big price and they should rule out swaps unless they will receive an exceptional player. Garnacho has a lot of potential, he is young and will contribute to any team that buys him but he needs to work on his off-field behaviour.

I wrote about the risks that players can face at Barcelona and these risks are based on what has already happened. Did you completely miss the stories about Barcelona asking a whole bunch of players (Pique, Alba, Busquets, Lenglet, etc.) to take pay cuts because of financial problems? Sometimes it looked very dirty, like in the case of De Jong. Did you miss all this? The situation when Olmo missed games because he wasn't registered? Just recently, Nico Williams did not move to Barcelona for one single reason - Barcelona could not guarantee that he would be registered. This can literally be described as "refused to play for Barcelona because of their financial problems". Don't you see it?

At the end of the day, it was in the past they asked players to take a pay cut therefore I think it is somewhat exaggerated, their financial system is not going to cause problem for any player that they sign (either or loan or buy). About non-registration of a player, that too as fas as I am concerned it a technical issue and it has not stopped the team performing nor has it created major problems for the club.

In my opinion, players that want to play for the club will not hesitate to sign for them.

Far too many players that Newcastle United were chasing decided to go to other teams. Sesko could have gone to Newcastle United if he wanted and could play in the Champions League but instead decided on Manchester United even though they would not play European football. I think he made the right decision and will score goals when he gets used to being in the team.

That football club is done for, they're so broke and yet they keep adding more players knowing fully well they can't be registered and end us disrespecting older players in contract. They needed Ter Stegen to leave so they could have a space to register new players but didn't approach it in a well respectful way.

Their best CB Martinez took the fall  for Ter Stegen and went to Saudi so they could have some space. Why are they still bothering Ter?

After that the recalled him and kept him in the team for just one season in the Premier League before selling him for £115 million therefore just two seasons after buying him, they made a stunning £110 million profit.

The also sold goalkeeper Sanchez to Chelsea in the same season as they bought Caicedo.

In total, Chelsea have paid over £274 million to Brighton since 2022:

Marc Cucurella £62 million
Joao Pedro £50 million
Robert Sanchez £25 million
Graham Potter and his coaching staff £22 million

Potter was out of his depth at Chelsea however he was highly suited to Brighton and their ethos. Had he stayed as Brighton manager for a few seasons he probably would have amassed the experience required to have a chance if he became Chelsea manager.

I like Cucurella, he is a fantastic player but at the time of the sale I thought he was overpriced at $62 million. I think Pedro will score goals and make many assists. Chelsea have a fantastic squad, they should be fighting for the Premier League title.

I never understood why Liverpool were chasing Caicedo, he was not the type of player they needed. Ultimately, it did push the price up and Brighton did benefit from that sale. That is how things are in football.

As for Fofana, he joined Chelsea in August 2022 for £75 million (again Chelsea overpaid to buy him from Leicester City) but in three full seasons has played just 29 Premier League games from 114 (15 in the first and was absent for the whole of the second season and only 14 games last season). On top of that he has played just 5 European games in the first season and none after that.

If he gets fit, he deserves a chance to hold his place in the team otherwise the manager will have to sell him at a big loss. He still has four years of his seven year contract remaining.
