Yeah, I'm with coinlocket on this. LeClearc pole and win. As I said before, Monaco stands for everything that says "no surprises". That means, if younger drivers play the role of good boys and don't try to be upstarts, then Positions 1-10 should fairly follow book odds closely.

Plus home crowd backing him. And he's as spongey as Verstappen in lapping up home support.

For the pole, we got it right.

For the race it depends a lot on the weather, Rain is expected with an 80% probability before the race.

Yeah, so far so good. I backed Verstappen for pole in last few races, made this switch strictly because this is Monaco, missed out points in those rounds but ensured got a good start today.

Who else among you got pole correct? I'd say most!

Anyway, race starts in about 2.5 hours. No more football in my life for some weeks so I guess I'll sit down a bit for this with my son. Happy Sunday everyone.

Yea ...the football is kinda gone during the summer but we still have Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores so from time to time we still get some top football from SA.

Now, back to F1. I think Charles should have this victory already in his pockets but then I think on how unlucky he can be in Monaco but at some point it gotta break , right ? If Charles won't win , there for sure Sainz must win this because if he won't , then RedBull will most likely have another 1-2 and a result like that will simply demoralize the entire Ferrari garage.

I loved how Russell and both red bulls (Verstappen/Perez) were dog fighting for the majority of lap 28-40.
Now this is what F1 fans want to see during a race and not just the same leader for 50+ laps just by getting pole position.
Atleast for me during the Sunday races.

That's correct. At least one Ferrari was missing from the setup, but it was a nice fight and a pretty clean one too.
All in all this year looks pretty good til now, as a show: pleasant to watch, the winner is far from clear, the top cars' performance is pretty close and it's no unnecessary drama.

Before the start of the year I hoped that maybe this time we will see other cars too fighting for the top - maybe McLaren, maybe Alpine, I don't know... Haas was a nice surprise, but now they seem to be drifting away.
But we can't have just everything. Maybe next year Cheesy
Exactly, fortunately the competitiveness of F1 this year is very fierce, quite different from what happened in 2021.
I confess that I was quite apprehensive about the radical changes that were foreseen for the cars this season, I believed that this would increase the difference between Mercedes and the others much more.
Fortunately, that's not what happened and now we can expect good surprises between one GP and others.

From what I know, Charles have never finished yet the Monaco grand prix. So the odds are not so much in his favor, although his car is the best.
Even more, it's raining now in Monte Carlo. This opens Pandora's box. The track is overly dangerous even on dry track; I fear there may be more Red Flag than actual race.
So pretty much anybody can win today.

I think Monaco needs a change if we keep with this length on the cars, the turns are so narrow and the cars are huge, you cant made anything to pass your rival.

Also the DRS zone its a joke, at least put two zones like one extra in the tunnel, i dont know but this track need an improve.

But this seems like a completely illogical requirement. It's not very interesting to watch a race where the cars go like on rails and the whole struggle for position takes place on pit stops. It seems to me that some changes in the configuration of the track should be invented so that at least a couple of sections appear on which open battle is possible.

Also not a favourite thing for me to see advantage gained and loss outside of open battle racing, but I suppose it's healthier for the constructor's to sprinkle in some niggly pit-stopping tracks and all that.

Sacrilege I guess, coming from someone who's not all into it, but I daresay F1 has always been at the mercy of tech and technicality.

Oh and politics and money, but hey, which sport isn't anymore?

I really dislike the way EEUU make in sports like the franchisce system and other things with ever the money ahead of all, but Monaco needs a change for this cars.

With a small change like take out the chicane and made a long straigth for overpass with a DRS after the tunnel we can have a much better race.

Maybe there is a motive to get rid of this stage of the Formula 1 and not the reason? I think the owners of Formula 1 are interested in increasing the number of races in the USA, since there is a huge solvent audience there and the more races there, the higher the earnings. It would be interesting to look at the statistics of which race brings in the most money and which one the least.

I think the racer of the day was Sainz. Because the man both put pressure on Perez and did not include Verstappen in the race. He got 2nd place completely right. I wish he had won, but he'll have a better chance. I feel bad for Leclerc. I don't know if this guy can stay at Ferrari long. We will look at Azerbaijan.

In Monaco, the one who starts from the pole wins. This is the way it is, if it happens otherwise, out of an accident, there are huge mistakes. In the past years, ricciardo retained the first place with a defective power unit for most of the race and finished first. It's that easy thing to start and finish leader in monaco. But things change when it comes to Ferrari. You ate Vettel, you ate Alonso, we won't eat Charles. Ferrari management deserves its clown nicknames.

I think the racer of the day was Sainz.

Well, he could have taken risks at the end and try to win the race, but he didn't.
Imho there were more drivers deserving to be driver-of-the-day:
* Sainz for being smart at changing tyres
* Checo for beating Max in qualifying and for winning the race
* Alonso for keeping Lewis behind him for so long, although the Mercedes is a pretty good car now

Also I'd add a worthy special mention: Leclerc race strategist (or whatever the name is) beautifully deserves the golden raspberry for his "performance".

The Americans, owner of the F1, they already said:
Or Monaco will change or it will be removed from the circus.

They don't care about the history they care about the money and they will make more with tracks in the USA.

Indeed, money talks. And I think that certain regions are promising this or that just to see F1 going there too. Also certain automakers want publicity in new regions.
But Monaco is part of F1 history and it's still considered the jewel of the crown. It's hugely unsafe (and I'm surprised the rainy Sunday didn't go worse), but I still hope it won't be just left out because all of this.

Well that was certainly an unexpected result for the Monaco grand prix.
I think I had seen Perez having odds of 17x after the qualifications were done as Leclerc was the heavy favorite being at the low 1.32x odds right before the race started when I checked.
It all happened at lap 22 and then the red flags came in.
Both Haas drivers were knocked around and had their cars taken off the track due to technical issues and a crash into the barrier at the pool.
I agree with most here in there should be a change in the format of the track as it would be more exciting to watch if there were more straight aways but alas it is a track for it's nostalgia instead of the what the fans want.

I look in the individual standings, Max has already bypassed Leclerc.  125 points for Verstappen versus 116 for Leclerc.
Third by the way Sergio Perez with 110 points.
I actually feel sorry that Leclerc lost the colossal advantage that he got at the beginning of the season.
But the gap on points is not very big.  But let's see, the intrigue of the season is still possible, any development of events is possible. Smiley

I was very excited as a Tifosi after seeing that Ferrari made an awesome start to the season after a long time. But Red Bull managed to close the gap with them very quickly and got ahead after solving their durability problems on their car. Leclerc was out of the race unluckily last week. And this week, he lost his lead because of the tactical mistake of Ferrari team. We haven't still reached the middle of the season yet but this kind of critical mistakes can affect the championship race directly.

One thing that nobody is commenting on is that in Spain there were team orders from REdBull for Checho Perez to let Max Verstappen pass, but if Checho Perez had not let max pass and had won the race, today he would be the leader of the world of pilots

Terrible on the part of Redbull to start so early with the team orders and not let them compete.

I actually did see something about Verstappen being vocal about something that happened at Monaco but didn't know what it was about until you mentioned it.
Of course he would be insanely mad if Perez didn't listen to team orders. Red bull better be careful or they could be creating a barrier between their two drivers which can cost them the remaining races as there are alot left in the season minus the one due to FIA having it cancelled.

Whenever team orders happen, they just nauseate me. It is still remembered how Rubens Barrichello yielded his position to Schumacher approximately 20 years ago. Besides, I think having this kind of incidents at the beginning of the season can harm the team in the long term. For example, we need to think about whether Checo would have the same willingness to defend another driver in case Max needs it.

I have always seen Max as the main driver who should be looked to for a place on the podium, no matter at what cost to Red Bull.
That is just how his attitude is: At any means necessary.
Checo is just his defense at the back to block the other drivers from over taking him at the final few laps.
That's how I see the team's of other F1 operate. It's just how the pecking order of formula 1 is.
Perez is Max's wingman and should make way for the one who higher up on the leaderboard with the points.

Red Bull had a structure in the past that was letting the in-team competition all the way. For example, Vettel and Webber crashed into each other while they were the first and the second in the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix. I still think that this is the right thing. But as of Max's arrival in the team, they started to focus fully on making him the champion. The biggest reason of Daniel Ricciardo's leaving the team was this too.
