That's why people will always try to throw the crap coin and replace it with the legit coin. there's no reason to hold the crap coin at this moment dude. Even since a long time ago and so many crypto experts were only giving suggestions to hold the legit coins. The crap coin can be only used as a short term speculation while it's too risky to be used as long term investment.

I also have plenty of different altcoins from airdrop before that I hold hoping they will have more value but truth hurts that only few will really be able to delivered what people needs, we will need to choose now which is better among those coins who served save purposes and whose can outshine them. That's right, not all altcoins will pump and give you a high dollar gain. As a result, you should only accumulate in coins that you are familiar with and believe have a promising future. Because there are many coins that have failed and become worthless.
Many people do not have a long time frame when it comes to investing. It's rare that people are willing to hold coins for over 3-5 years. So if you are holding for over 3-5 years, it's better to trade altcoins and invest in more familiar coins with established infrastructure. Do your research and make sure you're not investing in a pump and dump coins.

Some people, especially newbies do think low value coins may pump more than strong cryptocurrencies like bitcoin during bull run because they have low marketcap that can easily double, triple or increase more during bull run. But this mistake has made many people to lose in the paste, some of the low value coins will remain shit coins while some even gone down the extent of becoming dead coins, while ensuing investors to lose great amount of investment. Investing in strong cryptocurrencies are much more better and less riskier, people do even prefer to pump strong cryptocurrencies more than low value ones. But some people can be lucky about few low value coins that can pump more than expected at times, which means to invest most all investment capital on strong cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

Holding is a strategy that is supposed to be used only in bitcoin, I do not understand where people got the idea that if you hold altcoins especially those with low market cap you can make profits, in the majority of the cases those coins go back to their original value which is zero.

So you are correct when you say that your efforts were wasted but at least it seems you have learned something out of this, as such forget about altcoins and concentrate on the only coin we know for a fact is going to be here during the next decades and that it will go up in value in the process which is bitcoin.

That is surely the case when it comes to holding altcoins because not all altcoins in the market will pump in the market because there were just thousands of altcoins out there.

The best scenario was to hold bitcoin or ethereum for years and you could have a little guarantee that it will increase its market price throughout the year compared to holding other altcoins out there.

If you buy an altcoin to hold you also need to have the right method, and analyze if it is still worth it holding the token, and considered the time it will take before it increases its price, most of my strategy is selling I sell a few altcoins that pump already and convert it to other coins the is pumping to utilize the profit in just a small amount of time, you might think holding Cardano or Polkadot is worth to increase for like 5 years but is it worth it? I mean you could invest in some NFT token and earn x10 right easily, I mean just consider that.

Maybe it would be worthwhile to hold some altcoins, it depends on choice. If you made wrong choices, it doesn't matter how long you have waited for earning money. As you said it is best to prefer investing in potential currencies like  BTC, ETH. For that l prefer investing in top altcoins, that is why I'm a long-term investor and l think BTC and top altcoins are great for the long term. There are a lot of currencies and most of them can get shit easily in the future. To hold them is really wasting of time, on the other hand, better make yourself comfortable with top altcoins as you mentioned.

In my experience, you shouldn't really sell all that you've got. But if you do, make sure that you're going to buy back at least if the dip comes. I've sold badly on the lowest price but I didn't sold most that I've got. Those two scenes were my good and bad decision and learnt a lot from it.
And for those that are still looking to shape up their portfolio through tons of altcoins, a few will do and most of your money should be into bitcoin.

There are altcoin that could make a great gain after a few months and can 10x or even more especially if you're going to hold for a long term. But I also have a lot of altcoins holding that I probably held for a few years already that let just say that didn't really give a good profit. Like for example EOS probably its a disaster if you're holding this coin and I already consider selling my holding because I think that this coin is already dead, I was hoping for a comeback because I notice a lot of hot coins these days are 2017 projects or old projects like Cardano. Altcoins are risky because you might get caught by the altcoin season and could end up losing the profit.

Just because you have seen that other people had gained too much on their altcoin portfolio doesnt mean that you would be earning the same if you do held some alts.
It will be varying on what coins you've been holding and this is where personal selection would really be different to each other since not all people would
have the same view or perception into those projects that they do encounter on.It just turns out that other peoples selection is a good one compared to yours

It's the risk, and people should know it by now. Well, we have tasted a massive bull run in 2017, and that's why keeps people holding for their token in hope that we will experience the same thing this year. Not laughable at all. Mistakes aren't laughable unless they are doing it multiples times already.

That is problem of some of the holders. There is nothing wrong trusting a coin but the problem with most of them is that they are hoping that they will give them a huge profit if they hold it longer which is doesn't. We know that markets are moving in cycles so there will be a time that it will go down without us knowing it. Having a selling strategy would help you maximize your profit. Don't hold your coins for a long time hoping that it will give you profit the longer you are holding it .

Very popular coins and at the same time top coins would give you better rewards with lower risk compare to those coins that are lower. Yes they can give you higher profits but if you aren't know which of them will rise then you will end up losing your money. Investing in popular and top coins is safer at least for now since we are in a bull run or even in a bear market. Just invest into the top coins and you will be good whether we will be in a bull or bear market .

I can only advise you to go forward, if you are really interested in Altcoins with cheap prices stored in the long run, try to choose a few Altcoins that are already listed on several well-known exchanges, for example Binance etc.

So many people were suggesting the same thing. Yearly holding needs a legit coin to be a successful holding and the altcoins is only suitable to be used as a short - middle term of investment.

There are a lot of projects there with good partnerships, active devs, a good marketing team, and a solid community. Quite laughable but nobody here giving you that advice is to be blame, we have all seen how tokens rise form nothing to becoming top players in the industry, anybody would suggest that especially as we're currently in the altcoin bull cycle (and bull market in general). Investing works better with strategy you pick by yourself to adopt and not getting recommendation form others.

You can use their advice as a blueprint to come up with something of your own but don't totally depend on them since what might work for them might not be beneficial to you. You could try securing profit on each trade you enter since holding is working for you.

Do note though that it isn't that holding isn't profitable but the type of coins you're buying aren't holding material instead they're hyped projects that should only be traded for quick cash.

I have also experienced that kind of unfortunate results mate, from holding with useless coins and tokens mostly from ICO's way back in 2018. But that was a wake-up call for me because everyone can learn from his mistakes thats why I act accordingly to make it right and my first move is to avoid those useless coins and tokens and I make sure that I was holding only the top-ranking cryptocurrencies. but still, I was willing to gamble and participate in some Launchpad activity, particularly in Binance.

In my opinion, there is no obvious hold and will certainly win for all types of altcoins. You have to be sure for the best, how to understand if it gets stuck in growth and is driven by a lever to trust. Even ETH, I sold my beef for $ 150 at the end of 2018 and look back at my mistake now. Therefore, I believe that HOLD is still the preferred form for maximum profit.

Be wise with your investment, and you will make a profit in the future. If you can not select the coin that has the potential to increase in the future, you will not make a profit, even for a small profit. I also held some coins from 2018, and the value now increases higher following with bitcoin price because that is what I will get if I sell it in bitcoin. Holding can be a waste if you always check on the price, but if the bull trend comes, you can check the price repeatedly to see if your coin can increase higher or it still stays at the current price.

You have to be sure for the best, how to understand if it gets stuck in growth and is driven by a lever to trust. Yeah, very true @poster, one thing is that people should be specific when they tell you to hold coins long term for future profit cus we all know that not every coin or project will succeed, and we that are still very small traders tend to have the natural urge to ignore major coins which we have the mindset that they are already too expensive to buy, we go for the cheaper less popular ones with the hope that by the time they become known like the major coins, we will be in a very huge profit, but then, somehow, it sometimes ends in disappointment as not all of this coins go the way we predict they would go, some fall out on the way and projects gets abandoned, some are just too slow and takes years upon years to get noticed by a small number of people.

Good for you mate that you are holding coins way back 2018. On my part I holding since 2017 but I'm lucky enough that year as I already been rewarded tokens but I just converted it to fiats as I really needed money. Holding was never an easy task, time may come where you end up getting tempted on selling your holdings cause you are seeing that the value is getting better but the thought that in the near future, it has a potential to go even higher stops you. Just because you have seen that other people had gained too much on their altcoin portfolio doesnt mean that you would be earning the same if you do held some alts.
It will be varying on what coins you've been holding and this is where personal selection would really be different to each other since not all people would
have the same view or perception into those projects that they do encounter on.It just turns out that other peoples selection is a good one compared to yours
and thats why they do make out some nasty profits on just simply holding because of that.So i can say that it is a bit needing some mix of luck

Well the big problem is that you need to hold the right coin and tokens so they can raise in the future. You are saying you should only hold very popular coins for the future but you just can't be sure which coins will still be popular in 2 or 3 years. Except maybe for Bitcoin and Ethereum those 2 projects will stay as the leading ventures in the cryptospace in the next 10 years in my opinion.

Isn't this obvious? Those who hold those random altcoins (scam coins and shit coins) have no clue what they are doing. They probably saw the price getting pumped and kept on holding thinking that the coins will go higher in price. When they keep on holding, they all of sudden realize what they got into, but by then, it is too late for them. If they sell, they will make massive loss, if they don't sell, they will make even more loss.

I've used to be an EOS holder. Bought this altcoin when the price was around $18-20. If you buy dent for example then you did Dollar cost average ( which is good for investing long term ) you possibly buy dent at its lowest price and now you possibly have large ammount of Dent. Holding in cryptocurrency is decided in profit. But which coin you want to hold depends on the performance of that project. That is how fundamentally strong the project. Is the project owner active? The price of some project or coin was 4 - 5$ and now the price of that coin is below 0.01$. Holding such a coin is a risk. But not all coins are like that. It is beneficial to choose a fundamental strong project, check what is the main purpose of that coin, invest in such coin and hold it. You can't mention Bitconnect in your list for this matter. Bitconnect was a serious Ponzi scheme that was abused or even developed to scam people with a network marketing level type. Youtubers were promoting it everywhere and many clueless enthusiasts fell for it sadly.

very many people are in this scenario, if you hold and you sell off without leaving some tokens behind , you will be shocked by what will happen when it finally moons crazily. one thing you have to learn is how to keep tokens for long term. this is the only way i feel you can benefit from future pump when it happens. its the best for me.

It's because you do not know the art of HODLING coin, there's always the right time to hodl sell and buy coins the market is highly volatile you cannot hodl coins and just open it 3 or 5 years from now, there's a lot of profit loss during that time, do not HODL all your coin, there's a portion that you can HODL and there's a portion that you can sell at the right time.

It goes without saying that not all coins are worth being invested in for a long-term. Only coins with innovative ideas and really popular with people will survive in the future. If you want to invest in some shit coins, meme coins or any other altcoins that are not in the top-100, be ready to follow them and sell off when the market shows negative movements.

You have to balance buying altcoins, this is something you have to do, altcoins are usually able to provide the best value for the next 2 or 3 years, thus forcing us to make other investments faster.

It's also a good idea to invest in the top 10 coins, considering that these coins can provide faster profits than altcoins, but if you invest in the top 10 the risk is big, if we can't analyze the current and future markets.

This space is unpredictable and that's the truth, let's start with Doge coin, many people didn't expect it to be where it is today but just like that, attention was moved to it and almost all top cryptocurrency exchanges has listed it. The thing is, there are many tokens which where worth nothing years ago but ended up giving their holders good profits this year. Some people abandoned their tokens in different exchanges only to login after a long time to meet good prices, in the same way, some people bought, held in private wallets only to meet a dead tokens after a long time.
But in all, I think the best way around it is, focusing on good coins alone because these ones will only take time to develop but the long term gain is most likely assured. Instead of holding random tokens which have no future and expecting them to turn out good, it better to put that effort towards good coins.  Thus I agree with your decision, holding good coins for future sake is better.

I am very amazed by people who hold their coins for years, but it will be different if they Hold coins do not have usecase or can we say only Shitcoins. Yes, it is sometimes a lot of unexpected things that can happen but the comparison is only a few percent. I often experience selling coins today and in the following month it rises very crazy. Am I disappointed? Yes, of course, but I still grateful with anything i have,at least I can use to buy meal or self reward. If you don't like trading and want long term I think coins with high rank in coinmarketcap can be references.

I got a lot of altcoins from bounties and airdrops, I don't imagine if the old coins will continue to grow, but some of the coins I have I have replaced with new coins, airdrop coins can be called shitcoins because not all of them have a high value, in the future there will be many a new altcoin appears, you can choose which one you like

Although there is currently a lot of speculation around cryptocurrencies and their many offerings, crypto is a volatile asset but it is a long term investment. i believe that i am just starting to get to the potential of crypto, but it can be a bumpy ride and i can see coin days going up and down like we have seen in the past.

Profits may not always be available from all coins. Such as LTC is a top altcoin. BTC is the Gold and LTC is the Silver. LTC crossed $300 during the bull run of 2017 but LTC could not cross $300 during the bull run this time. If someone holds LTC, he will not get any profit. If you want profit choose right coins.

Maybe holding coins or tokens we can see from the coin itself. If bought or maybe not Bitcoin, usually i will sell my coins after get a profit. If coin from bounties, as long it is more than ICO price i think i will sell it too, if not then i will hold because not bought it. And when keep pumped or in future maybe it more success, well at least i am not lose anything.

I will gladly do the same twice in the morning and night as long they are price from bounty. I have my reasons too.
I hardly hold coins from bounty because I have noticed they don't do well after their first investors impressions and the moment they take their profits. To be on the better side and as reward for my hard work, I sell immediately and transfer them into exchange for good coin that worth holding for long term.
Though, there some coins and tokens I wish I never sell but its still worth because if count amount of shitcoins that has gone down the drain, they are much in number.
