yes, maybe this will be the topic of a long discussion about the 2021 Olympics, thursday: 8/7/2021, In my country, has dispatched approximately 28 athletes who are ready to bet with 17 officials consisting of 8 sports, I hope that those who have been sent to Japan this time will bring home the best achievements for the country.

For that 16 countries this time are ready to compete professionally in the Olympics in Japan this time, to fight for the gold medal that has been prepared, I'm sure every country has prepared their best betting athletes in order to achieve the best performance in the 2021 Olympic tournament this time and can be proud of their country, success for all athletes who compete in Japan.

I do not know how it is for most sports but the big ones like track events and team sports, you have qualification rounds for them all the four years throughout the wait for the next Olympics. OR like for running, which I sometimes follow, there is a qualification time you must meet at a recognized competition, if you do it, then you win a "ticket" to Olympics.

 So this is like a "final" also except I think in individual sports you have a limit for participation as I explained.

I'm not sure but I guess there are no qualifications for a country to participate in the olympic games. I mean If a country possessed an athletes to a specific sport, they should always qualify as long as the number of their teams and participants is appropriate to the rules. No more, no less.

The qualifications are only applicable for the players playing for a specific county. Prime example is the pureness of the player's nationality. There might be a slight controversy when a player has dual nationality.
I guess your country will be the one to choose representatives to play in the olympic games.

The hosting country will be the one to carry the torch and put it on the cauldron. So, it's gonna be Japan.

I'm just curious how this going to be like the previous years same with no pandemic? How this could be possible to come back to normal olympics without any hesitations despite of the continuous coronavirus threat to people. Gambling bets this time might not be too good, since limited participation and audience should observe health safety protocols.

Usually every time there is an Olympic tournament, countries will nominate their best athletes to qualify for the tournament.
For example:
Swimming: in your country there are 20-30 swimming athletes, they all have to pass the selection to qualify for the Olympics, each country must have their 2 best athletes to qualify for the Olympics, this also applies to other sports such as: archer, weightlifting etc.

Each country is able to enter up to 3 athletes for each event, provided that they have met the qualifying criterion - for the men's 100m as an example, this is 10.05 seconds. If your country has 10 runners who have met the standard, you can enter your choice of 3 of them. If no-one from your country meets the standard, you are still permitted to enter one participant.

I assume other event categories use a similar process.

The same thought came to my mind.
It will be postponed. That's what I imagined with all the barrier for every country cleaning their own backyard in the meantime.
But, it looks like they are going to continue it despite the pandemic still being a threat to all the participants.
I understand it means peace but what if it will also be the reason for pointing fingers at the end of the day.
Do we even know what's happening in the locker room or behind the scenes? I doubt they can control all of that.

Well, there must be some kind of security measures/health protocols before every game starts. I am still trying to be optimistic about it.

I am worrying about the pandemic and progresses of vaccination globally. I wish best for the world, every nation, includes sport athletics. I wish that there will be no more deadly and more productive spreading mutated viruses on the world.

The Olympics can be a potential source for mutation of the Sars-Cov-2 virus. Of course I do hope it won't happen because if it happens, it will get rid of vaccination progresses so far.

I’m worried more about athletes. Imagine you train for 4 years to qualify for olympics and show best results there, then you wait for one more year because olympics were postponed, and your country decides to skip olympics this time and you wait for 4 years more. 9 years of trainings to try to get a medal. 9 years is a lot. Some athletes wont qualify, because they will be to old for their sport. Awful it you dreamed to represent your country and due to covid you dream will never come true.

I also don't know what conditions can make a country have the right to participate in the Olympics, but it seems that there are no certain conditions that apply so that a country can participate and maybe the Olympics is like the world cup which is intended for countries around the world and I remember first I've read an article that says that the fire bearer at this year's Tokyo Olympics is a Japanese citizen, namely Kane Tanaka who is the oldest person in the world, but now rumors are circulating that Kane Tanaka will not be the torchbearer of this year's Olympics and I don't know who will replaces Kane Tanaka as torch bearer.

I'm just curious how you guys feel about Sha'Carri Richardson being banned or suspended from the Olympics and then ultimately being left off the 4 x 100 sprinter relay team? Personally I fully understand why this happened and rules are rules so it is what it is but I think it's about time that marijuana is removed from the banned substance list.  Marijuana is NOT a performance enhancing drug and is a very helpful and safe way to treat inflammation, stress, pain etc.

It will be strange Olympics without spectators, but still better than no Olympics at all. Though, here in Europe it time of events will be not best to watch as most of events will be early in the morning.
Guys, what events will be most interesting for you? For me personally it's athletics, swimming and basketball. And events where athletes from my country have good chances to win medals .
About basketball tournament, I expect that USA will not win gold. They have good squad this year, but results in friendly games shows that they're vulnerable. It's only pity that my country will not play in Olympics for the first time ever because we lost to Luka Doncic and his Slovenia in qualifying tournament.

Yeah, countries can send their athletes even if they haven't reached qualifying requirements. I remember in previous Olympics in running or swimming events there were athletes from quite exotic countries and their best times were so far away from qualifying criteria.

We must understand that no matter what measures are taken, but when there is a movement of such a large number of people across the border, there will undoubtedly be a risk in any case, especially if not only athletes, but also spectators are still allowed. When holding EURO 2020, UEFA insisted on the presence of a certain number of spectators at the stadium and those who did not agree were deprived of the opportunity to hold it. It just turns out that Japan is not satisfied with the level of risk of an increase in morbidity, which is undoubtedly present during such large competitions. And the IOC does not have as much influence on the organizers as UEFA, and therefore we have what we have, that is, potentially holding the Olympics without any spectators at all.

Lots of things have been prepared and delayed in Japan for the Olympics and the career lifespan of athletics is short so I think the Olympics will be hold one way or another like Euro 2020.

Athletics and Japan will feel happy if the Olympics will be hold in the closed stadiums rather than cancel it at all.

Risks are there but Japanese governments and IOC (International Olympic Committee) have to make decisions with as least risk as possible from their assessment.

There is already a spike in some of the cities where the Euro 2021 tournament was conducted (London, St Petersburg.etc). But as you have mentioned, we may need to wait for a couple of weeks to assess the full damage. In UK, they allowed the crowd because of the high levels of vaccination. But they forgot the fact that the vaccines have a low efficacy against the Delta strain, which is now very prevalent in the UK. In the other countries (especially in Russia), the vaccination rates were low, and still they went for the tournament. I hope that the Japanese won't make the same mistake.
