Naturally, modern sport is a battle of pharmacology, but if you get caught then please follow the rules and do your best next time. But Russia, even being caught, denied everything and behaved inappropriately, therefore, was punished even more harshly.

I agree with you that of course if you get caught you should be smart enough to admit that you did something wrong and do everything that you can to ensure that you stop this kind of actions and also to prevent them from happening in the future.
You also say though that modern sport is a battle of pharmacology and i also agree with you here, but no official representative of any sport or nation would ever admit this and I think the majority of spectators are still not aware of it. However, the media and reporters are well aware of this and that's why it annoys me even more when the western media point out the Russian doping incident at almost every opportunity for the 500th time.

I mostly watched basketball and follow team US after France beat them from the first round, they show everything especially those who doubts their capabilities to take home the gold medals. Everything was concluded now, they still the title holder and they still continue being on top not only with this sport but with the entire gold medal race.

I did watched this competition and personally I like it, after all there is nothing more exciting than when the underdog is able to beat the favorite and no one saw it coming, it is sad on one hand because the twins were trying to make history and they failed and it is also sad because I saw how devastated the Russian athlete was after she discovered she lost the gold medal after winning 3 world championships in a row, but this only makes the victory of Ashram even more impressive which is the first for her country on the sport.

It was disappointing for Russia, but this time their performance was not up to the mark. I still remember the stellar performance by Margarita Mamun and Yana Kudryavtseva in 2016. And before that it was  Yevgeniya Kanayeva who won successive golds in 2008 and 2012. However, this time the Russian athletes were no way near that performance. And Linoy Ashram did well. In the Russian press there were accusations that the judges were biased. That is difficult to prove, and in all probability the Russians will receive penalty if they make such accusations.

Yes. As it turned out, the US won the most medals overall and the most gold medals. The 38 gold medals won by China were just barely beaten by 39 gold medals won by the United States.
In 2016, the US also dominated the medal count, but it won the gold medal battle with a much bigger advantage. In that year, the US won 46 gold medals, almost twice as many as China, which placed second with 26.
The US has won the most overall medals for seven consecutive Olympic games, since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

From year to year we don't see competition in the standings USA always dominates changes only occur in the 2nd to 5th rank and this keeps repeating every period  Cheesy
China actually has a chance as a competitor because they have a lot of athletes and complete equipment but they can only occupy the top 3

So, Tokyo 2020 Olympics is over. I think that even without spectators and with all Covid restrictions it was great Olympics. Big respect to Japan for making Olympics in such difficult conditions.
On the last day USA took 1st place on medal table from China, after winning women basketball and volleyball finals.
Not that much wait until next Olympics in Paris - just 3 years. And just half year left until Bejing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Now after 2 weeks I finally will get some sleep Cheesy.

I'm glad the Olympics is over as well. It was very entertaining while it lasted. Couldn't follow all the competitions but the ones I did were entertaining for me. It was good to have something entertaining after Euro 2020 ended. Now, I can focus on football because several leagues will start a new season. The pandemic that happened last year made sports in 2021 super interesting.

Next major tournament I'm hyped about is the world cup in Qatar 🇶🇦 next year.

True to that, the situation that the world has been going is tough yet Japan just made this year's Olympics awesome. They have seriously alloted a huge budget on this event. $15.4 billion was the alloted budget that Japan did for this historical sporting event according to this source: (https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-tokyo-olympics-staggering-price-tag-and-where-it-stands-in-history-11627049612)
Now, Paris has also officially taken and accepted the torch for 2024.

...
it will be interesting to know why this is happening,
What else could it be? Other Olympians were better prepared or simply more talented than their US counterparts. We don't need to overthink this unless there are people who are looking at poor judging or possible cheating.
Under normal circumstances you would be right but taking into account there was and there is a pandemic in the middle of all of this I wonder if this had anything to do with it, after all athletes train themselves to be at their top shape at the Olympics so they have a higher chance to win a medal, did the delay of a whole year and the uncertainty of not knowing if the games will be suspended at the last minute took a toll on the US athletes? That is a possibility that is worth exploring.

i can say, the delay has significant impact in terms of mental health of these athletes, not only in US athletes but all the others too. i watched one interview of hidilyn diaz of PH, who won gold in weight lifting, and the delay really did affect her in terms of mental health. it is good that they have psychiatrist in-house. so yeah, definitely, the delay took a toll to most athletes.
but a big round of applause to japan for completing this historic event. they have had a lot of troubles owed to pandemic but they did successfully finish this event.

Congratulation to the USA as general champion and Japan as an organizer who has created a successful event around the Pandemic. I also thank you for Japan has shown me a beautiful city and neatness when seen it all in the last marathon event. this big capital will be returning back when tourism back to your country, this means Olympic not showing the event sport but will calling back people to come to your country.

...
it will be interesting to know why this is happening,
What else could it be?

I agree, the delay and extension of the schedule really took a toll on most athletes, not just medal contender athletes but everyone. Hidilyn was one case, but still she did what she has to do for her country. Imagining, training away from your family for years and then the pandemic happens as she was trap outside because of her training. Next is in Paris so hopefully this pandemic has been somewhat in control in the next 4 years.

The Japanese economy is in stagnant mode for the last few decades and they were hoping for a boost from the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, visitors were not allowed and therefore despite spending huge amounts, they failed to reap the benefits from the Games. And now several questions are being raised, about the spike in COVID 19 infection rates, which many believe is at least partially triggered by the Olympics. Performance by the Japanese athletes were up to the mark, and they finished third this time (compared to the sixth position they received in 2016).

Yeah, if there are visitors allowed there's for sure a boost on their economy if there are no covid-19 restrictions and there's no travel ban for other countries. But despite the covid-19, their economy didn't go into inflation and they're one of the best economies during this covid.
But I also feel them and understand what you've explained that if there's just no restriction coming from the Olympic committee, for sure Japan will benefit from it and this year is going to be a big year for the economy. I've watched a video that pre-Olympics, they are encouraging their citizens to travel all over Japan just to keep their economy running and the government will provide some benefits and allowance for them.

Inflation is not an issue in Japan, because unlike the other countries the government doesn't indulge in the printing of unlimited amounts of banknotes. Also, they restrict immigration only to high-skilled labor (opposite to the cases in western nations). And this helps to reduce the government expenses. But I don't think that it will be a good idea for the government to ask their citizens to roam around, given the precarious COVID situation in the country. The age structure of the Japanese population also makes them more vulnerable to COVID.

I've figured that out when I watched a video that came from someone who lives there. I love to watch videos about their culture and almost everything about them. That's for real when before Olympics was about to happen and I think their government was already aware of the possible surge in cases and it really did but they're reminding their citizens to still take care of themselves despite they've encouraged many of their citizens to travel. It's only for their citizens no foreign tourists are allowed. I don't know if they are still pushing that these days.

It will still be a memorable Olympic Games. Almost no audience, that is the first time in the history of the games that that was not allowed. We'll have the winter games out of my head in six months, won't we?
I hope at that time, spectators will be welcome.

Yes, it will be in February the Winter Olympics - Beijing 2022.
https://olympics.com/en/beijing-2022/

Being in China, and the way they organize themselves, there is a good chance that there are already spectators. There may be restrictions on audiences coming from other countries.
