Oh, thank you for your replies  My hub delivers up to 2.4A, so yup, definitely its gonna be the lack of fan, I will wait and use with it before touching the screws Also gonna order one of this ammeter just to double-check Thanks again |

These ammeters are super useful to identify if the hub can deliver what it says it can. That's because many of them only deliver the full amount if the device requests it through actual USB messages according to the USB power delivery specs. The GekkoScience sticks don't communicate these messages though, so depending on the hub, you may or may not be stuck on 0.7A which isn't enough to hold any type of usable clock speed. |

I'd say definitely overheating. When I got my first one I plugged it directly into the USB port on my PC and walked away. Got so hot it melted the solder off one of the surface mount chips on the board. Luckily not terminal, once I put it in the Gekko USB hub with some fans it was fine.
Wow, that's wild! And the components didn't fall off? Yeah it did, but it still works  |

Hi guys, I've got mine too. I haven't tried it yet, because I'm waiting for my raspi to set it up. I've noticed however, that the stick's layout has slightly changed compared to v8.1. Did you see it? Has it anything to do with its performance? I'm unfortunately not allowed to attach any pictures, maybe because I'm new here, but found out the way how to explain what has changed: https://www.419mining.com/wp-content/uploads/20211012_184638-600x800.pngThe black regulator (?!) with 14 legs on the right hand side, directly under the screw has gone and it was replaced with an 8 legged one, which is ca. 1/5 of the original's size. |

Mine also have the 4 pin regulator, they seem to work fine, if you don't forget to cool them ... One of mine dropped all the components  because I tought it would run on stock frequency without extra cooling. I re-soldered them all by hand using flux, and it's up and running again, with printed 40x40 air ducts and fans connected on them, now they behave and don't drop parts  Whatever you do, use the Kano version of cgminer, it runs more stable then the other versions found on github and is running with about 0.5A less power usage for the same frequency settings ... |

Yeah, cooling can be a huge issue as far as I can see here from the comments. Good to hear, you could fix yours.  I'll be very cautious, but thanks for the warning. I've already bought a 10 cm (diameter) fan. It'll turn out really quickly if it's enough or have to buy a bigger one. Hopefully will do it I've made some research and this forum is a real gold mine! ... I've made some research and this forum is a real gold mine! Firstly didn't know which version to use and after comparing them decided to rather go with Kano's cgminer. It seemed the most up-to-date with some extra Ferrari adjustment possibilities, but now I'm sure this is really the right one to run with. Thanks for the tip!! Can't wait to start the engine though For running the Ferrari you must use Kano's latest version because no others have the driver that he had to write for CGminer to work with the ASIC chip used on the F. Beyond that, Kano also cleaned up code that -vh wrote to support the chips that Sidehack's older sticks use including adding the -tune2 option for them. |

That's a counter, probably used as a clock divider, shouldn't affect performance. |

I don't know if anyone tried that yet with a Compac F. I am pretty sure that it will provide a maximum of 2.4A, which might honestly be enough. But it certainly won't output 3A, since even the advertising only speaks about 2.4Amps. |

The thing is, I can not find a 3A usb (On stock you know) It should work, but as you've seen, sometimes 2.4A hubs don't actually deliver that power if you don't plug in a BC3.1 compatible device that correctly 'requests' all that power. But I'm afraid that you've just got to try if nobody here can confirm the hub you chose to be working or not working. If you have a measured result though, it would be great if you could share so we know if it's good or not! |

Yes! For the record I have 3 Compac F USB miners and an Arctic USB fan running on a single ICONE USB 2.0 120W HUB.
I couldn't get a 4th to run on the ICONE hub and keep the other 3 plugging away at the higher speeds unfortunately.
Each of the 3 Compac F's does appear to be getting fed up to 3A per unit without tripping up or faltering.
I did buy a used GekkoScience USB hub and 2 Compac F's from Ebay this past week so I will try to load it up with a bunch of Compac F miners and see how it goes....
I do have 3 x SiPolar hubs that can't seem to handle even 2 Compac F's above 2.5A so I am happy to replace hopefully all of them!

It's very hard to find a powered USB hub that provides 3A per port because that's way above the USB3 standard, so it's non-standard by definition. A standard USB3.0 hub has a maximum of 0.9A per port(4.5W).[1] Hubs that support the USB Battery Charging 1.2, or BC 1.2 for short, work up to 1.5A per port(7.5W) [2] There are non-standard/propietary ways of going beyond that. The most common value I've found is 2.4A (12W), for example that's what the 7 port hub from bitcoin merch delivers. [3] If you need to have a hub for USB2-3 devices that deliver 3A per port you can either buy a used one (the gekkoscience one and others are all sold out AFAIK) or, if you're more adventurous, there are some people making custom developments and sharing their designs. Here's the post[4] and the actual source code for the design files of a 4-port USB2 hub with 3A delivery per port (15W) [5]. In theory you could DIY your own USB hub with 3A per port using those files if you have the skills. Ideally the next generation of USB miners should be done with USB-C, which allows much more power in a standard way. For example, the Dell dock WD19TBS has a USB-C that provides 3A (15W). [6] USB-C allows the creation of devices like this guy, a 4 port USB-C hub that delivers 12A per port (60W). [7]   I'm not sure if there's a way of delivering power to a USB2-3 device from a USB-C hub. But that could be worth checking. After a quick search, it looks like it might be possible to use one of these new USB-C hubs to get 3A per port.
