Considering potential altcoins to hold in a long term are those in the top 10 in CMC.  For sure they have the potential upon holding in a long term but all of these was depend on the Bitcoin price of course which leads to the market price position.

So in this case, if you want to pump altcoin it might be good if you will also hold Bitcoin and allocate a large percentage of Bitcoin in your portfolio.

Of course you can always be more efficient and make bigger profits if you are an active trader that actively sells at highs and rebuys at dips in order to increase your holding but of course that way of investing also brings a lot of risks with it as every time you do a trade you are also in danger of making a mistake. We should not be investing in the first place if we aren't aware of the coins we are going to invest. Well it depends on the coins that you're going to hold because most of the time alts are ideal for short term profit. I've said this a couple of times already around the forum, and I don't mind saying it again: you don't just hodl (any) coins, that's somewhat the reason why research is a very important and indispensable aspect of crypto investment, and it is expected of an investor to have done his or her research effectively before going on to invest.

Indeed mate, that's why there is a memetrap for those who put their trust in shitcoins. But there are some who got lucky to gain profits from those coins and eventually maximize the investment of their main stablecoins or altcoins they've chosen.

The coins get into profit and we still expect it to increase more only to loose our profit because most of them get to loose value later. It is heartbreaking when such happens. I share your point of vies that long-term investment is the most profitable and safe strategy, but so as to become a strong holder you need to choose a right project first.
