I agree with your opinion that the Croatian national team is not as good as 4 years ago in Russia, but regardless they beat the first favorite and the best national team in the tournament, Brazil, which shows that Croatia can beat any national team in the world based on their quality and experience.

To me, this is the best match for 3rd place we have in years.
Yes, I know the obvious, every team played to win even for 3rd place, but for all those teams above the 3rd place was a sad match to play, all teams above were unmotivated.
