And I think it's all about the power, those guy are natural heavy, so heavy handed as well. It will be something in the catch weight but still it's not a sure thing for Canelo to win at Cruiserweight and yeah, probably the same result, going to be L for him with the big Makabu.
So now, let's just enjoy him and GGG next month, if he get passed GGG and win, let's see if he wanted to go to Light heavyweight again and go after Bivol for a rematch or stay in 168 lbs but there will be no challenges for him.
Well, there is no other way but to enjoy the upcoming fight of Canelo and GGG. But, It would really a challenge for Canelo if he moves up to cruiserweight because of the weight and possible power disadvantage. Those at the heavier weight can receive much stronger punches so the ability of Canelo to knockdown his opponent will be tested if he moves up in weight division. Not because he is a Knock out artist in the lower weight means he will be the same when he climbs the weight. We have seen several boxers to have difficulty in knocking their opponent even though they are devastating in their previous weight division.

We don't need to see it, his lost to Bivol at LHW is already a indication that he swallow more than he could chew. So probably going up to CW will also be a disaster waiting to happen for him. Definitely, his power can only bring that much as 160-168 lbs, he is very dominant and most likely that is his perfect weight. But above that 175 lbs and higher will be a different Canelo, he doesn't have the advantage that he has when he is in the middle to super middleweight.

I would be inclinded to agree with your later statement. Although, respect has to be given to Canelo for looking outside of his perfect weight class, which he would probably be dominant in, earn a tonne of money, without too many problems. It takes a decent amount of courage, to go somewhere you know there will be challenges, so while I'm not a Cancelo fan, he definitely gained respect for going to fight Bivol despite the loss. Also, Bivol is a class act from top to bottom. Probably one of the most difficult fighters to face, when you're moving up a division. I do think people are starting to realise that Cancelo isn't this unstoppable force now. Everyone talks about how his power is the best in the business, but I've never really seen it honestly. I've seen some decent amount of tactical thinking from him, but that's been when he has been losing the fight, which is great. However, his power is only slightly above average I'd say in his division. If like you say, he moves up he doesn't keep that power to weight ratio, he seems to lose a bit of it.

That's the thing, he was an undisputed champion in his division before and we didn't notice his power because he is not a strong starter, he is only a good finisher but sometimes his opponent can survive even if they lose the fight. With this fight against GGG, he has not hurt GGG yet but he won the last fight, so let's see if they can really hurt GGG and maybe KO him which IMO unlikely to happen.

He has not knock down GGG IIRC, but he was more active in the ring so the judges favored him to win, however, there are fans who think that he didn't win, there was a bias judging that's why GGG loses the fight, now is the time to end that speculation, he has to win impressively, KO or not.

While Canelo is very eager to fight GGG and possibly end his career, its the other way around with Golovkin, he just treated it as another fight and Canelo as another fighter, and their fight as another one of his fights, he has no plan after the fight and admit he is already 40 and nearing retirement and if he losses it could be the end of his career, I don't know if this is just another strategy so Canelo can think that GGG is beatable now, though on is last fight there's no sign of slowing down. https://www.boxingscene.com/golovkin-lets-face-it-im-40-years-old-nearing-my-retirement--168258

I think it was early this year when the WBC approved Canelo to jump in the cruiserweight and fights WBC champ Ilunga Makabu. It didn't materialized though, maybe there is no money in a Makabu fight or the Canelo team thought it was too big for them.
Yes, Canelo tried to train and fight against Ilunga Makabu in the cruiserweight but eventually, it didn't materialize. Don't know what's the true reason but one thing is certain though, Canelo and his team made a point that he cannot really take on Makabu and expect their boxer to defeat Makabu in his division as adding extra weight will make a difference into Canelo's speed and power. We already proved that he cannot really defeat the guys in that weight class because he is already struggling in the light-heavy. Money is not a problem because Canelo will be followed by that anywhere and in any weight class he chose, it's just that Canelo's chance in winning in cruiserweight is really low.

If canelo add his weight and fight in the cruiserweight which is 50% of winning because as we can saw in his right in lightweight his speed and power Matters its a big difference between he fight his suitable weight because he can perform well his power and speed can control the game. But if he can add more and fight in cruiserweight it will be a big challenge for him but only thing need to do is that keep focus and develop his extra ordinary moves to have a chance to win in higher weight.

His next fight will probably 3-4 months after the trilogy and it was mandated to him by the WBA to fight Erislandy Lara. Although we can only get an official update about it once we see the result of the trilogy. And actually, Canelo is not really eager to fight GGG. He is even avoiding GGG for years. But since the community is pressuring him and it's a big money to organize this event, Canelo consider taking the request now to end his chapter with GGG for the last time.

"For now", yes. He is not capable yet of dealing with challenges in Cruiserweight. He needs to be used first on fighting at the Light Heavyweight to slowly adopt the environment there until such time that he's now fully prepared to step on upper weight class. A target to defeat Dmitry Bivol should be on Canelo's future plan as if he can't pass that guy who previously defeated, then he won't test his strength if there's an improvement later on. If Canelo loses this trilogy fight against GGG, then it will just be one more reason why he won't last in the Cruiserweight. How can he deal with active and prime boxers there if he can't beat a veteran boxer that is now close to retirement and far from being prime now?

Why he need to move up the weight classes? He was looking very comfortable in the Super middleweight division and then he wanted to fight Dmitry Bivol in Light heavyweight. And that didn't ended well for him. Had he stayed in Super middleweight, he could have maintained his reputation. The loss against Bivol did a lot of damage to him. Anyway, for the fight against Gennady Golovkin, he is moving down one weight division. I hope that now he will remain stable between Middleweight and Super middleweight.

@Sithara007. There is something within athletes who are real champions that we cannot understand. There is a need for them to prove themselves to everyone that they are the very best. Manny Pacman has this, Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant and other athletes from different types of sport. It also builds on their name and reputation. If it is correctly built, their management team can make much money from it hehehehe.

Yup, being great means that you will not put some limiter on your skills like only fight in your comfortable weight class so that you can maintain your reputation and for Canelo's case being an undisputed boxer and a champion in the super-middleweight. Real champions keeps on pushing themselves because they don't know their limit yet and Canelo knows that because he keeps on seeking fight outside his comfortable division.

Well his fight with GGG is full of controversy, this controversy outshines Canelo's achievement because he shouldn't be undisputed without the help of ringside judges. Take for example his first fight with GGG which is so obvious that GGG should have won the fight but instead, the two judges favor Canelo by giving a draw and an unbelievable score of 118 - 110 in favor of Canelo.

Chasing more belts I guess, he is a champion in 154, 160, 168 and we can say 175 against a fading Kovalev, so that is already 4 belts under his weight. And probably chasing a second belt in 175 lbs against Bivol. And if he ever succeeded on that, for sure he will go as high as Cruseirweight (but at a catch weight), to get his 5th belt and become of the greatest Mexican ever or even one of the greatest boxers who ever lived. Unfortunately, Bivol derail all his plans so Canelo wil have to start all over again.

Correct, the fight of Canelo versus Bivol made very clear that Canelo is simply not ready to move up a division, he has great strength, stamina and punching power when it comes to the current division in which he fights and this has allowed him to dominate it. But he looked really slow and heavy when he fought against Bivol, so unless there was something wrong with his training regimen then I think we can safely say that Canelo is probably never going to be able to move up a division successfully.

Yeah, I'm also curious why Canelo looks slower than Bivol while most of Canelo's fights we're saw Canelo is very fast with his head movement. IMO 7 pounds aren't that huge, but we're seeing it's otherwise. I think it's because the boxers in light heavyweight division are greater than the boxers in super middleweight division at the current era. But Canelo would need to face Bivol again in the near future since no one can compete Canelo beside GGG in his current division.

It's just that Dmitry Bivol was able to limit Canelo's supposed potential. With how Bivol is able to corner Canelo most of the time, the latter becomes irritable and that leads him to destroy his own will to focus on the fight. Bivol successfully landed lots of punches making Canelo a punching bag. Because of that, Canelo feels disappointed and the result is, he feels he can't able to match Bivol's strategy. Why you are curious that Canelo looks slower in that fight, remember that Bivol is not even fast. But with the right strategy by him, he was able to beat the heavy favorite which is Canelo, and him being the underdog wins the fight.
