It's much easier in football where you have two sides of a draw and no team can change sides and meet before the final. Just remember how many times it happened to Croatia to be best in the group or best in two groups and then to drop out in first game where there is no allowance to slip up in sports like water polo and Handball. While teams that slipped up before passed on. This way that group perfection gets awarded with upper bracket and one slip up is never enough to get you eliminated. This system rewards quality a bit more than chance and that is why GG is such a good pick in DOTA, they finish the tournaments strong even though they look mediocre in early stages.

Yeah, sounds like a good system. I'm not sure why it's not implemented into tournaments in other sports. Croatia really is a good example (at least for us that follow Croatian sport). We have really a lot of examples where one slip up resulted in being kicked out, while others went further.

it is a bit subjective, especially if you ask all teams that went down on penalties series in football against Croatia on last two WC's 

but overall, it is probably a better system for quality, although I would prefer one bracket system, it brings more surprises, which is something I do like, and that brings sport more to life situation, you often don't get second chance in life too

It is still anybodys game, but I am really surprised that I am currently leading, because I spend maximum two or three minutes answering all questions for this round.
Maybe this will be my new tactics from now on if this gets through, dont overthink everything, no big research investigations, and just fill up everything on my gut feeling

I was hoping to get my win before we come to the sports I know nothing about but no such luck. It will all depend on boxing/MMA. I have some faith in my answers since a lot of people went with same but still the feeling is not good. I need a draw from those 2 questions, either we both get a point or nobody gets a point would be perfect. I actually think it's horrible. Knockout should be exactly that - no second chances.
You lose the upper bracket final and then what? You play a lower bracket final as compensation?
Then you win there - and play in the final against the team that already knocked you out of the competition before. Makes no sense at all.

I have no doubts that GG can manage to have a good run even on early lower bracket run. They do this kind of run on DreamLeague Season 20 despite they have a week start on playoffs that just made them barely qualified. They manage to win on the finals against Betboom on a close fight. They are very resilient even if they are already on the brink of elimination.

I'm just surprised that Betboom exit earlier especially during their Upper Bracket run because they are always strong during early to mid game consistently but they can't close their on both their fight against TS and GG, it sucks that I thought they can meet GG on the finals.

That third map was something special let me try it explain trough football terms. Liquid was leading 4:0 and then Talon managed to equalize in last minute and we went to penalties. Where Talon was leading 5:4 and their goalkeeper just saved the ball but while they were celebrating that ball got wicked rotation and finished in the goal. Now following isn't possible in football but that goal was valid for 2 points and if it came half a second later it wouldn't stand.

Think of Zai illegal moves like Messi tying several defenders in a knot.

Now there was more tactic involved in that and they didn't just forget about Zai, they realized what he was doing at the end and tried to come back to stop him but his live teammates managed to slow them down enough to win.

Not really passing as Dota fan yet but you get maximum points for effort. I would never just try to listen to game

Bad internet for sure. I could still see the spider, just not sure what was going on. Commentary works for me for most sports, no idea why, but it has to be in English of course. I read today that that day in upper bracket was the best games in the sport ever. Feel pretty lucky I "watched".

I might do that more, for sure big tourneys like this seems worth it. GG are amazing in bottom bracket huh, they play in 10 minutes, I wonder if there is fatigue factor here. Liquid is well rested (and look like they're headed for the final) and if GG make it past Spirit, they'll be having very tired brains/fingers I assume.

I agree with cryptofrka on bracket system but we probably discussed earlier pros and cons. Brackets ensure good teams consistently finish -- hence domination of some teams in US sports and it seems DOTA, and ensures payouts of investment in good teams. KO ensures more underdog factor and gives more watchability for the neutral -- but it seems to reward investment less, but I prefer that! Hence I'm a fan of UCL KO and not the new league format that ensures survival for upper half of new UCL single league.

Team Spirit just finished the game and secured a ticket to the finals after winning the 3rd round now Team Liquid will wait for one more team who will qualify between GG vs Talon Esports, at first I chose GG vs BB in the final but yeah BB was eliminated and now my hope is for GG who has to fight in the Lower Bracket Semifinals. Hopefully GG can go through 2 more games and fought Team Spirit in the finals  I checked the spreadsheet list only one user who voted for Team Spirit in the final lol.

Kinda unexpected that @ulven picked Team Spirit but yeah it works out for his favor Team Spirit was never really the favourites to actually win or even get to the grand final. Their last appearances on Major were awful so its actually an outstanding performance that they managed to get this. Personally I still wont think they are going to win this if somehow GG get to the grand final through lower bracket

Frankly I wasn't expecting Hungary to win at all. As of Liquid's losing today as well I have started to think that I will lose this matchup. I hope that I can get a lucky draw. Otherwise losing two weeks in a row is going to be horrible for me.  

I started the season really well actually but things started to be upside down for me recently. I'm not in a comfortable position anymore and need another good winning streak.

Gaimin Gladiators are such a bunch of losers, I had them to reach the finals along side BetBoom and they fell to lower bracket at earliest opportunity possible, they also to be the to eliminate BetBoom and now they can't keep to together to get to the lower bracket semi finals and at least have a shot at getting their revenge against Team Liquid, although I'm glad Team Spirit dropped Liquid to the lower bracket finals, however, @CasperBGD now have a second chance to tie the game with Liquid facing Talon, I would have fancy my chances on GG vs Liquid than, than Talon getting past Liquid.

I have no choice than to root for Talon E-sports to eliminate Team Liquid now, such a glimmer of hope to hold on to
