I think there are other pressures besides him having a high desire to gamble, for example having debts with loan sharks so he gets threats to immediately pay off his debts so there is no other way by kidnapping his own grandson, but even so whatever the mode of action he is doing is wrong and can also be damaged his grandson's mentality, I can't understand why people like this can be addicted to gambling more than addicted to drugs. I used to be a cigarette addict, even now I can quit being a cigarette addict easily, namely by setting the mindset that I will not die if I stop smoking. let alone stop gambling.

If gambling addicts manage their mindset I'm sure they will be able to control themselves in gambling or stop gambling. but most of them are more concerned with gambling to gain victory and get returns for the money they have lost while playing gambling.  Cheesy

The kind of addict who will not stop even when he'd be in prison. He is too extreme, maybe not just addicted to gambling but also to drugs.

Grandpa must have been high all the time while he kidnapped his granddaughter for ransom. He probably asked for money from his son many times in the past. And when finally the son gives up hoping the father to change, Grandpa ticked.

China, huh? I was almost surprised by the news headline. In it's own nature, addiction, whether gambling or drugs or other can bring out the very worst in people and make them do things they would normally never do. Human life is not worth very much in China in the first place, so it comes to me as no coincidence that gambling addiction can produce some of the most inhuman and detestable acts there.

Furthermore, mental illnesses are looked down upon in China and nobody there will get the help they need. Gambling addicts, drug addicts, alcoholics are all swept under the rug and everyone pretends not to notice something is wrong. So I doubt that they would really try and fix the situation. Undecided

A gambling addict can be very dangerous and has all capability of a drug addict which we all know is capable of doing these things mentioned in the topic thread. Gambling can be very destructive when you are taking it to a different approach, I could remember a time when this gambling act nearly destroyed me, I almost used the money meant for my university school fees in a game I was very confident the team I want to place my bet on will win, but just as nothing is very certain in betting, the game played out and it ended a draw but luckily for me I had serious problem withdrawing the funds which help me and I learnt a very crucial lesson that day. So with many advice on my gambling habit, I now gamble only on little amount and I do it for fun instead of taking extremely serious.

in the article it says the man asked for 72000$ ransom and the ransom money was meant for gambling, i wonder why he just didn't borrow money from the child's parents once he asked for 72000$ ransom then it means that the child's parents are in good financial condition if they were not in good financial condition he would not have asked for 72000$ ransom, but I also wonder why ask for so much ransom money? so my theory is the following: probably he should have made a lot of loans to play and lost everything in the game, so the owners of the money started to charge him and knowing that in these countries loan sharks are very famous people in the underworld of crime, there are no using physical violence to get their money back

so he was in a very serious situation, maybe he tried to ask his relatives for money and they didn't give him the money, and as he was in a life or death situation he resorted to the plan of kidnapping his granddaughter to get the money to pay the debts, because I believe in my theory? because if he didn't have any debt and was just an addict trying to get money to gamble he would simply have gone stealing money from his granddaughter's parents in a way that wouldn't call the attention of the police, kidnapping someone is a very risky plan and that draws too much attention and for the large amount he asked for it is not something a simple addict would ask for, a gambling addict would take some asset from granddaughter's parents and sell or ask for a small amount of ransom to gamble

This person has reached an extremely high level of addiction, to the point where he continues to gamble even while in prison. It's concerning and almost unbelievable imo. This grandpa is just build different to do such those behaviors to just gamble, almost like a character in a movie or anime, it's just crazy.

However, it's important for people to be aware of the dangers of gambling addiction, as it can seriously impact one's life.

That was sad to see but we can't take away the fact that the case is one of the worst-case scenarios happening in real life once a person falls into the trap of gambling. In my own view, I don't mind a person being a gambling addict as long as they are still responsible outside their lives outside gambling, if possible.

The old guy is surely stressed and depressed because of his growing gambling debt and his mind is now confused about what things should be done. Having difficulty thinking of some ways how to overcome the financial problem to the point that his mind is not functioning well.

Gambling responsibly is easy to say but in reality, hard to cope with for others.

There are people who didn't realize that they are turning worst because of gambling. Hope they can be saved.

He was being innovative and showing initiative in figuring out how to continue to gamble. Give the guy some credit lol.  Maybe the guys back was against the wall and he owed a lot of money to a loan shark? Something was not reported as to what made this guy go as far as he did and try to harm his own family.

This is true and could be possibly one of the reasons too because it would really be just that not believable that you would really go into a certain extent if you arent really that desperate enough or you would be seeing this as a last resort. For sure there would be questioning but that guy still decide to zip up his mouth on whats the real thing. Getting have some loans into those loan sharks and you dont able to get paid and now
you've been forced on repaying then you cant really be having an option but rather it would really be making out some ransoming thing  and the worst that its been involving who are closest to you.
Which means that you are really that having no options or no where to go, dont know on why he hadnt been done on other people.LOL but still in overall its a bad thing and this is the thing on where
addiction could lead you on, and this is why we should really be responsible whenever we do make ourselves get involved with gambling.Be wary and be sensible towards your actions.

It is quite normal for people to get angry when they have lost money gambling. And I'm not talking about a few tenners, but about big money. You would only put your entire savings on a gambling site on a whim and then lose. It seems to me then quite normal that you are angry and that you express yourself in different ways. Some keep the anger to themselves and renovate the entire bedroom, for example. But most gamblers who lose more often can handle their loss a bit more simply over time. I think the first time is the most painful when you lose a large amount. There are even known examples of people becoming suicidal, fortunately the number of cases is quite limited.

~snip~

many gambling addicts have lost their minds because their desire to continue gambling overpowers their common sense, hence the importance of "gambling responsibly"

~snip~

Many people commit criminal acts with different backgrounds, just for the sake of getting something. unfortunately, in this criminal case the subject matter was gambling. I'm sure, of the many gamblers, only really stupid people do as told in the threads and links you shared. whereas, many more severe cases are based on other addictions. for example, drug addicts. they can perform brutal actions beyond the normal human rational will. who in essence, just want to fulfill their needs and desires.

So who should we blame in this case, the casino, or the grandfather. for sure, it was the grandfather who lost his mind to act beyond his common sense. I don't know the essence of the problem, whether the grandfather is shackled in debt, then thinks gambling is the solution to the answer. yes, we don't know the details why the grandfather did something like that. for sure, the grandfather must be held accountable for his actions that have violated the law.

So, as you say. that the essence of the contents of this thread is to make a mirror for us so we don't do anything beyond common sense. Gambling, is a fun hobby. challenging, triggering adrenaline, as well as providing fantastic rewards if lucky. however, if it is not based on responsibility and understanding of gambling itself. so do not be surprised, if there are people who take actions that are beyond rational.

in the article it says the man asked for 72000$ ransom and the ransom money was meant for gambling, i wonder why he just didn't borrow money from the child's parents once he asked for 72000$ ransom then it means that the child's parents are in good financial condition if they were not in good financial condition he would not have asked for 72000$ ransom, but I also wonder why ask for so much ransom money? so my theory is the following: probably he should have made a lot of loans to play and lost everything in the game, so the owners of the money started to charge him and knowing that in these countries loan sharks are very famous people in the underworld of crime, there are no using physical violence to get their money back

so he was in a very serious situation, maybe he tried to ask his relatives for money and they didn't give him the money, and as he was in a life or death situation he resorted to the plan of kidnapping his granddaughter to get the money to pay the debts, because I believe in my theory? because if he didn't have any debt and was just an addict trying to get money to gamble he would simply have gone stealing money from his granddaughter's parents in a way that wouldn't call the attention of the police, kidnapping someone is a very risky plan and that draws too much attention and for the large amount he asked for it is not something a simple addict would ask for, a gambling addict would take some asset from granddaughter's parents and sell or ask for a small amount of ransom to gamble
This caper, folks? Straight from a page-turning thriller. But let's be honest, it's a wildly intricate plot to fund gambling. Imagine if the abductor channeled that zeal into something big, like dominating the poker world!

Kidding aside, it's quite the conundrum why someone would dive headfirst into such extreme tactics. Had he hit rock bottom, with no other way out? Or, was he a greedy soul, seduced by the enormous windfall? Regardless, his actions were utterly deplorable, and he's gotta face the music. Huge mistake!

He was being innovative and showing initiative in figuring out how to continue to gamble. Give the guy some credit lol.  Maybe the guys back was against the wall and he owed a lot of money to a loan shark? Something was not reported as to what made this guy go as far as he did and try to harm his own family.

It could be true also as gambling addiction can sometimes lead a gambler drown into a huge debt. But most likely, I see this man losing his right mindset and just think that kidnapping his own granddaughter will only be the best solution so he can pay his debt and continue gambling. With this example, it only shows that gambling addiction will never do good in the long run, and will always leave negative impressions once addiction is no longer controllable.

Gambling causes depression and depression leads to committing crime, in the heydays of online cockfighting here in our country, people are committing crimes even to their families, just so they can play online cock fighting.
Gambling is like a drug if you cannot handle the way you take it, you will be miserable.
Imagine committing a crime against your family because you know that your family will forgive you because they want to preserve their family's unity.
The way gambling addicts think really sucks, but it’s a reality when you are obsessed in a certain habit like gambling, you will be force to do crimes even putting your family as your own victims just to satisfy your addiction. This is no longer new as most of the gambling addicts have lost their right thinking and just resort into doing things that are unbelievable and bearable for their family. That’s the reason why if we can avoid gambling in the first place, then do it, if not just gamble only for fun and not to gain a real income.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Most of countries do not have prison penalties to people who owe money, so it does not make much sense he would go and commit such a serious crime for money if he had the possibility to ask for a loan.

Even if he managed to obtain a ransom he would have gone to jail eventually. Perhaps the people behind the writing of these articles do not know the whole story and there is a chance the man was receiving death threats if did not pay back his loans. So decided to kidnap his own family member to save his neck.  Does not matter how one sees it, it is still madness.

It's really crazy what people can do when they're in a desperate position, gambling have ruined a lot of lives, we're all aware of it but not everyone has the ability to control it.

As far as I understand the article, the man has a gambling debt and wants to settle everything thru gambling.

He needs money and demanded it, not to pay the debt, but rather to continue gambling and taking chances. However, even the man will get the money, he just added another crime. There's no way he will get away with that.

The level of desperation is really insane as it came to the point that he will kidnap his own family just for the sake of having money. Regardless of the reason he has, the was against the law and he needs to face the charges. I'm sure he's not just a gambling addict but maybe addicted too to other sinful activities and that results in his mind turning into trash.

When you are already too deep in gambling, you would really do anything to satisfy your desires.
If you are still thinking logically, better change your path before you go into extreme decisions.
This is why every once in a while, we should have a regular check and balance of ourselves before we go to that terrible situation.
Desperate times, desperate needs, desperate decisions. It may be insane for us, but for them, that's their only way out.
They won't be seeing clearly about their decisions. So if you want to avoid such circumstance in your life, weigh your gambling activities and see where you are at.

This is why I’m too afraid being surrounded by an addicted person, because you can never know what will happen if you stop supporting their addiction or they have no more resources, I’m pretty sure this is not just an gambling addiction, drugs can affect your mind much worst. Be responsible always, do gamble what you can afford to lose and don’t expect that much, always stay in control.

This is insanity, honestly....
How could he do such a thing just for a mere urge to lose more on something he's never gonna win, as long as he's too desperate?? That's against the humanitarian law and whatever penalty he faces in jail suits him...
What does the little child Know?... except he had an alternative plan - if not, that's even more riskier than selling a landed property to stake on some odds.. in gambling, the more you try to win, the less you understand ways to do so... Cus at some point, all the options will invariably seem cool to you.... What's the point of going that far? Justice must be taken so he'll learn his lessons.

He can't consider this thing nor came to his mind because he is being blinded by the fact that he needs to gamble and gamble he needs money so he will desperately do something very horrible just for that. There's a lot of people like him maybe on this world, it is true that we need to manage our emotions so that it will not ruin us and the people that is around us.
