It's really a crazy thing that still happens a lot but on the other hand does it really have to be like that where it doesn't matter if they are relatives or not but they cross that limit just to gamble.
This is really unhealthy because apart from him being a cruel person, on the other hand I'm pretty sure he can't control the gambling conditions he does which makes him all consumed by a heavy addiction.

They are already controlled by addiction itself, so they will do anything to fulfill what they want, including crime, as long as they get money to gamble. This becomes a lesson for us as gamblers to always be able to control ourselves and always play with a clear brain so that we will not be carried away by emotions that will make us lose everything, including the people we love.

some officials use casinos as a place for laundering their money and this has happened in almost all countries in the world, and many people have been harmed so that the handling of gambling addicts does not work effectively

Most modern countries have bankruptcy laws for medical debt, for credit cards and even gambling debts.  Theres no benefit or reason to lose a life over what is just paper promissory notes, simple cash is not enough reason.  The debts can be written off and a person can always be useful enough to make their way through life even without being allowed a working bank account from the bankruptcy or whatever other negatives its not the great burden it would have been at one time.

Psychological pain is the major reason, and it isn't easy to overcome for various reasons. The prime reason being the massive loss that had taken place all of the sudden. Maybe with the lost amount we could've fulfilled big needs of us or it is the fund that is kept for important need. Once again it looks hard to arrange funds, something like kept aside for education or medical bills.

Myself too haven't met any of the person suffering with gambling addiction, because in some form myself is a a gambling addict who had come out of it slowly.

When a person finds himself financially broken he thinks of ending his life, because yesterday he had good money and he feels empty all of the sudden. With this he finds it hard to move forward with positive mind.

When a person is completely addicted their brain behaves in a way that might look very differently than a person who is not addicted.

The choices those addicts make are far away from what a non-addict would choose.

It has been shown in studies that lots of people that are basically normal, would end up killing someone (it was a faked death in the experiment of course) by following orders of a superior.

The fact that some of them continue to gamble in hopes to make the psychological pain to stop or become weaker, it only makes things worse, we all know how it usually ends up.

I feel empathy for you, since you are not ashamed of calling yourself a gambling addict and I am happy you have decided to take control back and slowly overcome those impulses, it is the right call. Gambler should have act as you said but most gambling addicts do not appreciate peoples' concern and is easily agitated because they don't want to hear anything negative about their activity.  In most cases in a couple relationship, the gambler even beat their spouse when their partner started talking/nagging about his shortcomings due to gambling activity.  Instead of admitting his fault he retaliate physically or verbally just to shut up his wife.  At the end these people who shows concern to him will then avoid the confrontation and slowly drips away.

Incidents like this also happened just a few houses from where I live, what's even crazier, the gambling addict ran away somewhere, causing his parents to have to pay debts of hundreds of millions of rupiah to loan sharks and several tens of millions of rupiah to his friends who had their money taken away

It would be that unlikely for someone whose been that addicted to gambling on which taking up some suicide decision just because they arent able to play or do such thing which it is really that impossible.Usually this kind of decision would be molded up on the time that they are really that in huge or deep debt on which they cant be able to repay and on the time that their loved ones have leaved them or they dont have the money anymore or selling off  all of their assets and belongings.On the time that they do see that there's nothing left on which they do possess then this is the time that they would really be looking  up and feeling that pity
into themselves and this is the time that they would be thinking that taking suicide would really be the best solution on this case, which it is really that absurd on having this kind of consideration on taking
up such action just because you've got nothing because of too much addiction. Every problem does have its own solution and they should really be thinking up this way.

Any addiction will eventually drive a person into a corner from which it may seem impossible to escape, this is why there are some people that take the most irreversible decision that a human being can take, which is to end their own lives, however there is always a solution to the problems people have created for themselves due to their gambling addiction, it is just there is no way to solve them quickly, as those which are addicted spend years or even decades in that condition and they cannot hope that everything is going to fix itself overnight.

I was really upset when I read the news that the OP shared. It was upsetting to learn that a person did such a thing to a small child. However, I would like to mention this detail. If that bad guy was addicted to something else, he would still do this bad behavior. I think what needs to be discussed on the main axis here is addiction. Because that bad guy was a drug addict, he could repeat the same bad behavior. I hope everyone can control themselves. Unfortunately, if we cannot control ourselves, we may experience similar endings.

You are right that an addiction to almost anything can be dangerous for a person if it becomes excessive and it becomes more dangerous for society when that addicted person starts doing things like this which in some way harms another person and even if they don't harm anyone, they will obviously ask for money in return for not doing that.

Gambling addiction also makes people do very bad things when they spend everything that they have but their urge continues tickling them to gamble more and that is when they decide to get money from somewhere by doing anything.
