I have experienced this one and that's one of the family members selling two of my consoles just to satisfy his drug addiction. I think both are just the same but gambling addiction is a more expensive bad habit than drug addiction. A drug addict can literally just go high and will have enough for the whole day while a gambling addict can keep on going without any rest or sleep because he is either chasing his losses or being too greedy to want more profit after a win.
Both will keep on doing it every day and there's no stopping it unless they seek help or rehabilitation. Both can also wreck their brains and they can be mentally stressed if they cannot do their bad habit for a day.
When it comes to effects, I think both also have a number of suicidal attempts or were successful at doing it so comparing them is not that bad at all. Anything that is abused can wreck our lives.
