Turkish Super League 2023/24 Season

A manager who has coached the national team for years is now heading a club team for the first time. From this perspective, it's a bit of a strange choice. But other than that, they signed a really big name with a great career. I congratulate the Beşiktaş board. No reporter could cover this, it was a completely successful operation.
Portuguese players have generally always been successful in Beşiktaş. With the new manager, we can see Portuguese dominance in the team again. Most of the foreign players are leaving anyway, there will be room in the squad. We also strengthen the Turkish rotation with young players from the infrastructure. Well the addition of a quality coach to this squad is a sign that yes they want to improve. Though they don’t have the best of players to compete for the top but I think them getting a good coach is a great step in the right direction, coach a good coach could help impact a lot in their current players and help develop them to get better, for instance take a look at what Xabi Alonso is doing at Leverkusen, even with not very much top players he's doing good and getting the best out of his players, changing them to develop into world class, that's the quality of a good coach.

 He’s a good protfolio from the National Team and coming to club football with that experience means he’s welcomed and has great philosophies to instill. Now if they’ve great squad, then I think they’ll be able to compete for the Europa League and that’ll be a great thing to get the club back on track.

The top two team had final match for Week 19 and they managed to win their respective matches.
Fenerbahce had 5 - 1 win over İstanbulspor who were the bottom team and Galatasaray managed to win 3 - 0 over Konyaspor, from this victory they again got the same points.
In the Turkish Super League it is clear that the title holder for this season will only be contested by Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, there is no chance for another tick to follow or surpass the points they have achieved so far.
They each have 47 points, while Trabzonspor, who is ranked 3rd can only have 33 points difference of 14 points which is an unreasonable number if they are superior.

The 16th match, which was postponed due to an incident some time ago, will start tomorrow and of course this will be quite fierce match because competition for points is once again presented.
But I sure that each match that will be played by Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will definitely end in victory so that they can get the same points again, only Fenerbahce is superior in terms of goals scored.

Cengiz Ünder played a big role in winning the match with a performance that surprised everyone. Cengiz Ünder scored 4 goals in total and hopefully this was the match where he started to return to his old form. Cengiz Ünder scored 3 goals in the first half and at the very beginning of the second half he scored 1 more goal to decide the score of the match.I think Fenerbahçe could have scored more goals but I must say that after 5-1 they got a bit complacent.From this moment on there was a lack of performance and I can say that the game was over after the substitutions.

Angelino should definitely leave the team quickly in this month. He has really no use for this team at the moment. I imagined much better things than this about him but he is very inadequate as for defending the attackers on his wing. There isn't a big difference between Angelino and Kazimcan honestly. The only difference is Kazimcan is much younger and needs a little more experience to be more reliable.

Okan Buruk has done the right thing so far by not giving any more chances to Angelino. Because if he played in another game his contract was going to be extended by one more year automatically. 

Galatasaray will play the Konyaspor match tomorrow with a very small squad. There were reports that Icardi had a fracture in his face, but if the Super Cup match was played in Arabia, Icardi would have played.
Most likely, Galatasaray club is having difficulty paying the players. For this reason, players may not have wanted to play.
Angelino could not make the desired contribution. Angelino's form has been in decline since leaving Leipzig.

Hatayspor's bad run continues.Hatayspor, who can't seem to find their feet, finished the match against Rizespor without a shot on target.Although they had more possession of the ball and got into position, they couldn't show an effective game in front of goal.Rizespor won the match 2-0 at home and increased their points to 29 and continue to be in the race for at least 3rd place.Kayserispor's defeat to Sivasspor this week has brought Rizespor closer.
Trabzonspor defeated Ankaragücü, who had not been defeated for 5 weeks, and ended their unbeaten streak.In this way, they also managed to rise above their rivals.They are currently in 3rd place and although they have little chance of winning the championship, they will at least want to finish the season in 3rd place.

To summarize Cengiz Ünder's performance against İstanbulspor it might be the only match in which he showed his real quality so far. Normally he is a great player for European football. He was doing really nice things while he was playing for Roma for example. He was great at Marseille as well. Therefore the expectations were really high from him when he joined Fenerbahçe after that.

I liked especially one of his goals in the İstanbulspor match which was a shot taken quite far away.    I hope that he can maintain this ambition because would really make use of it while challenging for the Super League title against Galatasaray.

The top two Turkish League teams had a favourable game last weekend with the both of them taking off the complete 3 points for the game with good goal margins too. The confidence of these teams is the fact that either home or away, they've got the biggest odds to winning every of their league games even though sometimes the victory isn't always guaranteed. These sides are good at what they do and they did not also let any factor deprive them of the strength out into the game.

Galatasaray now has just the Turkish League race to focus on having been knocked out of the Champions league and it's an advantage for them to build up enough capacity to stay out at their top spot and for Fernabache, the struggle is up and they're definitely up to whatsoever task put before  them too. Both teams were confident in winning their games last weekend with good goal margins which only means that they're satisfyingly impressive in their progresses. These two teams have always been an upper hand in the league and maybe it'll be repeated this season as well.

Fernando Santos is a quite successful coach in his career so far. I mean he won Euro 2016 and the Nations League in 2019 with Portugal. Now he is managing Besiktas and I'm really wondering how good he will manage the team. It is the first time he is managing a Turkish team of course but if he adapts quickly he can do really nice things with Besiktas.

He is already doing quite well in his first match right now indeed. But Besiktas need to be aware in the second half as well to maintain this score advantage. It is too difficult for them to be a part of the race for the league title maybe but they can at least secure the 3rd spot.

A new coach always brings something fresh. Dosent matter if they trained some tactics. Besiktas is playing really good in a really hard away game and is leading 0-2 at halftime and this is a huge result for them. I dont think Rizespor can comeback from this but we seen Besiktas this year that they drop leads always.

To be fair the game is not over yet and the "possibility" of Besiktas getting a tie or a loss is still there, and not impossible. But if we were to talk about the first half, which could be one of the best that they had, it could be mainly because of who they are playing as well. The squad has a good chunk of players that are doing fine, and its actually a good idea to build the roster like this, Santos may not ended up with some training, but he watched the team and most of the players, even including a few training footage as well, and plenty of games. So he knew the players and who should play where and do what, he knew the strengths and the weaknesses, so all of that helped. And yes, I agree psychology helps, they can't fire Santos as well, they need to wait at least until the end of the season, so the players used to think "all the blame would go to the manager that will be fired anyway" before Santos, but now they know Santos will stay until the summer, so they are thinking "if I don't play well, Santos stays anyway, so I will be one to be blamed" and playing better.

Rizespor has been playing very well in the last few weeks. They didn't have any missing players in this game, they played with a full squad. Beşiktaş had lost a lot of points in the last weeks and their performance was very bad. I think everyone expected Rizespor to win this match, but Beşiktaş managed to score two goals in the first half even though they couldn't find a clear goal position.

By the way, Beşiktaş had an xg* ratio of 0.4 in the first half. It is really a miracle that they scored 2 goals with this ratio.

Actually I was waiting a match just like that. Beşiktaş always beat Rizespor, this wouldn't change at the worst times. Clean sheet is important, despite 27 shots. Beşiktaş scored more than two goals for the first time in league. The real problem was that, they should score way more in games. Çaykur Rizespor had a 7-game unbeaten run but that had to end, this was a perfect timing. My expectation was over 2.5 goals and Beşiktaş win, both came with 0-4 score.
Semih Kılıçsoy is the man of the match. We wait more goals from him. The assist was more special though, because sometimes he's so selfish. He created the goal for Cenk. Both players should score more goals in the league. Beşiktaş need %100 of their potential to use.

He played with Marco Reus at Borussia Dortmund. Anyway, Marco Reus is one of the few footballers who remains loyal to Borussia Dortmund. Nuri Sahin will probably be the head coach at Borussia Dortmund when the time comes. Right now he is assistant coach. I expect him to be the head coach next season. In Turkey, he had very good stats at Antalyaspor. He turned Antalyaspor into a good team. Someone who does well in small teams can do better in big teams. That's why I have high expectations for Nuri Sahin.
