Are successful gamblers seen as addicts?

I wish I could have posted this in a more better place but since the thoughts came from gambling addiction, I thought it wise to ask this question over here and I hope we can discuss and get this straight.

Just as the tittle already ask, I really want to know if people who are successful in gambling also seen as addicts because I believe  for one to be successful in gambling or whatever they choose to do, there must be some good amount  of time and effort invested in it as well as money and we know that a successful  gambler must have invested  both time, effort and even money to make any reasonable  winning and these also are features of an addict as there are always excessive time spent on a betting site.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?

Controlling oneself is a crucial part of gaming since it helps us to stay healthy as gamblers not gambling too excessively. Those are actually pretty good points. You know, I had considered to be impossible for a successful gambler to be also an addicted person, because someone who is addicted to gambling lacks traits which are important for anyone who engaged in gambling, or even other activies which have something to do with risk management, like trading or betting.
However, I had only considered games which are completely dependent on luck and did not have a component of individual skill in them, like poker does. It would be up to us to discuss how compulsiveness and addiction would affect the decision making and analysis skills of a person who likes to partake in poker against other people  in real life.
If we assumed addiction to poker would not directly decrease the proefficiency in it, then there could be a chance a successful gambler to exist and still being addicted to what they do. That is if we assume Poker is gambling, which I personally do.

I agree that there are some gamblers who make money out from their experienced, they managed to take care of their strategy and they'll able to follow the right patterns.

You're right mate, I've also witnessed people who are new into gambling that doesn't play all the time but yet they always record winnings. Though there are still gamblers that can testify that ever since they started playing gambling that they've recorded more winnings than losses but that doesn't mean they were addicted before they achieved such level of success as it was basically luck because there are people that has less knowledge about gambling but whenever they walk into gambling hall and select some events they want to gamble on, before you know it they will just record winning whereas you that have a complete knowledge about gambling will be finding it difficult to win despite the fact that you took time to analyze the events before you staked on it.

Some persons do have what is known as beginners luck whereby they get lucky on first and sometimes subsequent trials but it still doesn't mean they are any better with analysis or they did proper analysis before they were able to get such win maybe they were just lucky and they happen to be in their lucky days.

Yeah, you're right as there are people that are lucky at their very start of playing gambling even me I developed interest in gambling because I got winning just at my first trial and it was at a time when I needed money to sort something out so it really helped me a lot though after the winning, I incurred losses in subsequent trials. I agree with that, because many of those who gamble frequently only experience a lot of losses and if they live side by side with gambling then it is a stupid choice. because I don't believe that gambling can bring much profit, it is almost impossible to happen, in my opinion those whose lives depend on gambling, their lives will not be peaceful because all they think about is gambling, and thinking about how they can continue gambling. Technically speaking, whether or not someone is addicted to gambling is independent of whether they are profitable or are making losses.
But in practice, if someone is actually making a living out of gambling (which is almost unheard of unless we consider poker as gambling) that would indicate they are very analytical and can take emotions out of the equation, which, in turn, means they would only bet when/if they think it'll be profitable and have enough discipline to withhold from betting on an impulse. So pretty much opposite traits to what we would see in gambling addicts.

Gambling brings a lot of profit for a small amount of money and sometimes a lot of money is completely lost so those who want to lead their life on gambling are very big fools because gambling will never win anyone regularly and in gambling most of the time there is an average loss so how can a person  Loan gambler can run his regular life with money.  A person may be lucky enough to be able to manage his life with gambling money for a period of time or a few months but not for the rest of his life.  And professional gamblers are patient so their losses are less.  So if someone gambles regularly he will become addicted to gambling no matter how professional he is

I agree with that, because many of those who gamble frequently only experience a lot of losses and if they live side by side with gambling then it is a stupid choice. because I don't believe that gambling can bring much profit, it is almost impossible to happen, in my opinion those whose lives depend on gambling, their lives will not be peaceful because all they think about is gambling, and thinking about how they can continue gambling. I mean, addiction has more layers in life than only the outcome of our actions, it has to do on how something affects our life in many aspects

Well, in some ways we might be able to say that these people are professionals gamblers rather than addicts. They might be addicted in a way that before they had gotten to that level where they are now called expert in gambling, they must have been a stage in their life where they did anything to make sure they could gamble. The word addiction can been seen in so many aspects but it would be more appropriate to use it when someone can no longer control his gambling habit and gamble without season. A responsible gambler who turned out to be a professional might be because he understood the consequences of going rouge and made sure he stay on the right path.
