Obafemi Martins has faced harsh criticism from Nigerians. People said that instead of recommending a former Super Eagles player, he is naming a politician. Other Nigerians think that maybe Martins is close to the son of the president. Others feel that he wants to gain the attention of Seyi to enable him to secure a political appointment or patronage. Former international Ifeanyi Udeze thinks that Martin's suggestion was a bad idea. https://punchng.com/martins-faces-backlash-over-seyi-tinubu-nff-endorsement/Nigerians are not fools, we understand his position and the reason for this suggestion by Obafemi Martins, what do he think that football is for, a kind of joke or what, in all his football career what he could do, is to spill such trash, it is shameful that a career footballer doesn't know that such position is not for a mere politician, or is it that Obafemi martins did what he did intentionally, so that he can be on trend and maybe get the attention of Seyi Tinubu , I'm beginning to be curious with what he was having in mind when he made such unreasonable comment, who wouldn't think that martins wasn't right with his comment which was likely triggered by ulterior motive. You made some points. It could be that Martins Obagoal just want to trend. Apart from this statement, I think he also made another statement that he was faster than Theirry Henry, Ronaldo and co in his playing time. After he made the statement, he received backlash like; in his time, he was running ahead of the football. That he ran without big moments etc. Now he is again make some political involvement, who knows his aim. The other time, it was Jay Jay that trended for calling Ronaldo Haaland - like and if you pay attention, Nwankwo Kanu also trended for his reason of endorsing Tinubu. Something might be fishy somewhere...

Let’s be honest, Martins Obafemi’s previous comments about him being faster than Ronaldo and Henry is of no consequence to Nigerian football. It’s just a player feeding his own ego. Neither is Okocha’s comment on who the GOAT is anyway affects football in the Nigerian space. What concerns me is when these ex-players make political comments on issues that improve or derail the progress of the sport in Nigeria.

Sincerely speaking Martins shouldn't have made that statement, if he had ever conceived about it, it should have rather been in his mind alone.

Obafemi is talking about Sheyi being young and vibrant to lead the NFF, what about he himself the obagoal we fondly call him, is he not young and well experienced and vast than the Sheyi himself to lead NFF. For him saying such meaning he doesn't know his capacity as an ex-footballer to lead the NFF with the experience he already has. Anyways that's his own cup of tea maybe he just wants to throw jabs or something to steer up Sheyi into joining the race. Since there has not been any official statement from the office if the first son of Mr President, we should just ignore such statements till is becomes official. I see it as lack of self esteem for him to have said this. Why Seyi, why not him like someone said. I think Obafemi Martins was just trying to be politically correct and loyal to Seyi for advocating for his name or is this another form of agenda which we don’t know because it can also be a possibility. Guys, I am not saying we should all join politics but it is becoming increasingly glaring to the eye the impact or effect of politics on our people and how everything is becoming more politicized around this administration. Seyi is not a footballer yet you want him to be announced as the next NFF president. I don’t quite get how the Seyi will be able to protect or defend prorperly the interests of footballers in real time especially when you relate it to the way players are being selected even as at now and the financial aspects too.

What concerns me is when these ex-players make political comments on issues that improve or derail the progress of the sport in Nigeria. I see it as seeking relevance. Some of our past players have now got used to trending for the wrong reasons. What baffles me is that most of them are the ones we regarded as the big names in the history of Nigeria football. They now all speak the same way, like people that do not have some brain left. What if Obafemi Martins had used that medium to sell off Nwankwo Kanu for that position (if actually he wasn't interested in that position). There should be ways to compensate these talents for their services to fatherland. Was he thinking that anyone is ready to fight for them if they don't do it? Like, this is a position that these ex players can team up to fight off the hands of our wicked leaders to be able to reposition the team they once made proud. Out of all the damages that corruption has done to NFF, the people that should be at the forefront on positive revolution in the NFF are now politicising it for relevance sake. It is what it is, let's see how it would end.

Martins doesn't know what he is talking about these are reasons why the country can't still get better, the NFF president isn't something that should be given because the person is your friend or you both are from the same state, Seyi Tinubu don't have an experience to be the NFF president and he is not in any way qualify to occupy such position just as his father isn't qualify to be the president of Nigeria, Nigeria should give some one who has the experience that position so that Nigeria football can move forward, everything shouldn't be politics in this country for crying out loud, obafemi martins should just go and relax somewhere and forgot about anything that concern the NFF.

He should know the country he's in, this not something people will brush off as if it meant nothing. His statement has offended lots of Nigerians and now that his getting the backlash, he should face it because he deserves it. It's his opinion on the matter but he was speaking from a selfish angle and it's not surprising for people to think his looking for a favour from Seyi Tinubu to have said so. We have capable men that he should have suggested contest for the office instead of boldly picking out the son of the president for the position when he knows little or nothing about the challenges being faced by the country football.

Obafemi matins is off direct earning from football and most times, his interest will be more towards what sustains him at this point in time ad for that he will endorse seyi Tinibu to get recognition from him seeing that most likely, in 2027, they might still be in power and if they have good relationship, he stands to gain from it. Most of these guys are after their personal interest and not making their decision to better a single sector in the country. NFF will not get better anytime soon an our league will continue tp be bad because people are not ready to leave their personal interest and do things that helps our footballing sector as a nation.

Nigerians are not fools, we understand his position and the reason for this suggestion by Obafemi Martins, what do he think that football is for, a kind of joke or what, in all his football career what he could do, is to spill such trash, it is shameful that a career footballer doesn't know that such position is not for a mere politician, or is it that Obafemi martins did what he did intentionally, so that he can be on trend and maybe get the attention of Seyi Tinubu , I'm beginning to be curious with what he was having in mind when he made such unreasonable comment, who wouldn't think that martins wasn't right with his comment which was likely triggered by ulterior motive.
What is wrong with the statement that Martins spoke? The young man has not said anything bad and he doesn't deserve those harsh words from Nigerians, he was just expressing his feelings about who can lead the NFF and Seyi Tinubu could be the right person. I guess the reason why some Nigerian doesn't support the idea of Seyi Tinubu becoming the next NFF president as a bad idea, is it because he is son of the president, but what is wrong if the son of the president becomes the next NFF president, doesn't he have the right to be the next NFF president? Martin isn't after any political positions as some people have alleged, he is rich and was a successful footballer during his days, had it been that he is poor, I would have believed that he was endorsing seyi because he is after political appointments or contracts from his father.

We can all see what's really going on and the current formation and status of the national teams bother the male and female, there has been lot's of lapses as a result of corruption and indiscipline in the football governmening body of the nation. I was actually disappointed in Obafemi Martins for making such blunders of calling on Sheyi to lead the NFF when he himself has what it takes as an ex footballer of the nation who is well vast and experienced in the system. If he has no intention of aspiring, he could have at least looked into his fellows or any reliable coach he knows could do a better job in leading the sports organisation of the country.

You are the one saying what will he gain from what he said, he has his targets, if what he said was as a result of political gains, he has said it and to him his message has been passed across to whom it may concern, he may have faced criticism within this period but it may not bother him much if his plans is to get the atention of who he is directing the statement to, Martins is a disgrace, if someone tell me that martins do not know the category of people that are suppose to be recommended as NFF president, I would have not believed, maybe he is blinded with what he might benefit from Tinubu family.

Help me ask, what did he have to gain from trending in the wrong way, for people's backlash against him? You don't act or say stupid things just because you want to trend on social media. Martins should be above that, to trend in the wrong way for Nigerians to dislike him. By now, I am sure he knows he has f**ked up by giving a proclamation that is a big no for every Nigerian citizen. Next time, I believe Martins will learn not to say things that are not in line with Nigerians admiration for a leader in any helm of affairs.

A player is fast doesn't mean he is better than the people he mentioned in all ramifications. Obafemi claims he is faster than Ronaldo and Henry put together. I don't see anything wrong with what he said. My concern here is why these ex-players never came out to say all these things when they were still young and playing professional football.
