If am the Nigerian president i will halt footballing activities in the country for some time until the players, coach and technical crew have convinced me beyond doubt that such tragedy won’t reoccur anymore, like what really went wrong with the Super Eagles? The Nigerian team (Dream Team) once defeated Brazil in the past so am really wondering what could have affected the super Eagles to the extent that even in Africa they will be losing endlessly, just imagine them losing 3:0 to Guinea Bissau what a slap to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the presumed giants of Africa, even to qualify for the just concluded World Cup they couldn’t.

Sincerely at this point i blame the players and will really be happy if all of them are replaced, i know everyone will want to blame it on corruption but i wont completely agree with that because far back when the Super Eagles performed well there was still corruption in the country but yet players like Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu etc stood their ground and represented Nigeria well regardless of poor welfare and corruption in the system, so this current players have no excuse for their incompetence. Super Eagles players like Osimen, Lookman, Iwobi etc play so well for their respective clubs but when they come back home they play so poorly.

To me it is high time drastic measures are taken like recruiting younger players from the Nigerian league who will definitely be eager to make name for themselves to come  and take over that mantle from this current Super Eagles squad that are obviously no more ready to give their best for their country, enough is enough.

The truth is that the problem is from the presidency or let me say the sports federation of the country, we've not been nurturing talents over the years, we've not invested in talents from under 15 to under 20. So where do you intend to get players that will go to Olympics and do wonderful, where do you intend to get players that will go to the under-17 and win a gold medal, so the result we are seeing today has been an issue of a years of negligence from the sports administration and is not only football, this cuts across literally all sporting activities in the country. Today if you go to Olympic most of the guys you will see there are people that were brought overseas, and is the same thing with our football, players are shipped from Europe to Nigeria for competitions that we can easily recruit prayers here in Nigeria.

Shame on AFCON too, to everyone responsible for approving this pitch for the AFCON competition, because what is that pitch? In 2026, African matches will be played on a pitch that is not equal. If a player gets injured, what will they say?

That's not all. The quality in African matches has deteriorated. This is the reason why the world doesn't value African football. Can't believe Morocco is a better footballing nation than Nigeria.

FIFA need to investigate all the Africa countries that are playing Afcon because this is so embarrassing, imagine many countries don’t have a good stadium, the pitch will look like a place where they have played football for years, i am not saying this because Nigeria lose matches and some countries we expect them to win matches lose their matches, it is because AFCON competition did not look good, the competition did not change and their is no improvement.

After the NFF and Galatasaray reached agreement for Victor Osimhen to be withdraw from the super eagles African nations cup qualifiers games so that he can recover from injury and play for Galatasaray game against Kasimpasa, i lost hope in the super eagles team and i knew they were going to struggle in their qualifiers games because if Victor Osimhen is not in the super eagles team they will usually struggle. Most African countries don’t have good field, most of their fields are always terrible. As a player which is not use to that kind of field, they will find it so difficult to perform well in a match. I feel African countries will have to work better on that aspect.

I know super eagles players will have something to complain about, the field might be of low quality, but 3 goals which they conceded in the match is kind of bad, they should have tried to get a win in the match, or at least reduce the goals which they conceded in the match. Not just you, a lot of people are already losing interest in watching the Nigeria game. If you watch any of the Super Eagles games, you will end up being disappointed because everyone is already tired of their unseriousness, and from the way everything is going, they keep losing their games, and they find it very hard to maintain consistency. People have lost respect for them, and the funny thing is that this is not the Super Eagles that we know, because we can easily lose. Anyone relying on Nigeria to always win their games is still joking, so we should just let them, and those who want to continue watching can continue.

The pitch was bad, but it is not an excuse for the Super Eagles to lose woefully to Guinea-Bissau. The last time the Super Eagles lost in this manner was against Spain on June 23, 2013, in a FIFA Confederations Cup group-stage match in Fortaleza. Ever since then, the Super Eagles have never lost in this manner. I still can't believe Nigeria failed to score a goal.

Two things may be the reason why people or citizens still watch there county match.

One could be for the love of the game. Just like people watch premier league, the Laliga and other sports games, poeple would always watch football, wether there country or other games by other countries or club. Football is a beautiful game remember.

Another reason could be for Patriotism. Those who love there country no matter what will always watch there matches. At least, to cheer then up while hoping for a favourable result. You know, your country is your country, and you can't have another. You just have to have fate in them irrespective of the fact that they are not really doing well in football. Nigeria used to be a great name in African football history. They are just underperforming right now.

I will digest this if only you can provide a link to back up your claim. Nigeria didn't play shit in that game. I would have been disappointed by their performance had I not gotten used to them. Pitch size and texture can play a part too but if there had been effort, you'd say they tried but there wasn't much Nigeria did, just wasting chances upon chances

I agree that the pitch is not a smooth one but that’s not an excuse why the super Eagles should be defeated so heavily. I bet you even if the game is played in a smooth pitch the super Eagles won’t still be able to win that match. The Guinea Bissau team were far better than the Super Eagles both in terms of concentration and possession, I know the Guinea Bissau have the advantage of their fans since they are playing at home so they came out in their multitude to cheer their players but that’s also not an excuse for such a heavy defeat. If the super Eagles players are complaining that they’re not used to playing in such pitch, what about the Guinea Bissau players who also have most of their players playing professionally in Europe, they adapted to it and ensure that they got the win. What the super Eagles lack is concentration, the only player who was impressive is Alex Iwobi and also Calvin Bassey. The rest were trash and they were playing to avoid getting injured so they could be fit for their clubs in Europe and that’s why they lost the game heavily. Let’s see what the excuse will be when the super Eagles will host Guinea Bissau In Nigeria because even at home I still doubt if the super Eagles can defeat Guinea Bissau not to talk more of trashing them 3:0.

Talking about the Nigerian team, when the top is rotten, anything that happens to other part of the body shouldn't be a surprise, because their decisions practically affects almost every part of the body. I know that our super eagles team has been really poor, but I never imagined that it has gone so bad to the extent of them losing 3-0 to such an opponent.

The excuses they are trying to use as cover up that the pitch was bad are just bunch of useless excuses that I don't buys into, because they have no reason to lose to such a team, talkless of losing in such a manner. Just look the way you rephrased what i said. I did not say the NFF and Galatasaray were behind Victor Osimhen not being fit to play for the super eagles, i said the NFF and Galatasaray had an agreement to withdraw Victor Osimhen from the super eagles squad for their Africa cup of nations qualifying games since he did not recover from his strain injury which prevented he not to play Galatasaray games against Trabzonspor  in the turkish league and Sporting in the champions league. I made a research of when Victor Osimhen will be fit and saw the information in one of websites that provided answers about Victor Osimhen's injury. If Victor Osimhen is fit in the next international window he will play for his country and Galatasaray cannot stop him not to do that. Victor Osimhen is not behaving without him the super eagles cannot win games injury was what stopped him not to play for the super eagles in the current Africa cup of nations qualifying games.

What annoys me the most is that we are still trying to drag Osimehn into this whole conversation as though a country that is as populated as we are can only depend on him for all our major games. we have all seen how England operate, sometimes they will leave out some of the players we think are the best of the best just because they are not in the best of form. is that not how a team should be built? should key players be fit 24/7?

As far as i am concerned, we don't have a worthy team that can represent us both locally and globally. allow this team play in the Nigeria professional league and you will see that they can not even win the league.

I see lots of comments about Osimhen and his absence from the squad, with or without him, Nigeria were the favorite, we lost the game because our players were terrible, secondly the pitch was far beneath what a country should be using to host another country in a big competition like the AFCON (qualifiers), a huge disgrace to Africa and CAF for granting permission to use that pitch.

That pitch was very bad actually, and the temperature was terrible, the sun was blazingly hot. I wonder why CAF accepted to start that match under such harsh weather. Even with the cooking break, the players were clearly exhausted by the heat. The country had two disadvantages, which is the field and their unfriendly weather, but those are not excuses for losing the match with such difference. It's a shame to them.

Yes you are right the Nigerian government or Sports administration do not invest on young talents no doubt, and that is not really nice, and it's affecting the country in one way or the other in different ways, but I think that is not actually the major problem why the super Eagle are underperforming, because if you look into the Nigerian national team, you will see many Elite players that are doing just fine across Europe, but when it comes to playing for the country you will see the worse of them, now the question is, doe's this players still want to play for the country, because judging from the happenings across the country of recent years, if I'm to be the players I won't answer to their calls, like in real fact I can sense the players don't want to play for the country anymore, the earlier we realize this the best for us all.

About CAF, you'll be funny for expecting any better from them after what they did in the last AFCON, patronizing Morocco until the final and still finding a way of crowning them winners even after being defeated in the field of play. Football governing bodies are such a big disgrace in recent times.

CAF has reached out to Morocco regarding the possibility of stepping in as a backup to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, since the current co hosts (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) are lagging behind with their infrastructure and stadium readiness. Early reports indicate that if Morocco has to bail them out, they want a much larger financial commitment and more lucrative terms to make it worth their while. Can you imagine a last minute scramble like that? Absolute chaos if it actually happens!
