It's more difficult for those who come from outside simply because the football that counts is European football, and many kids, even those with many qualities, have a much more difficult life to be able to approach this world because obviously they are less followed championships and the chances of getting noticed are decidedly lower.

Sure, another football genuis can still come out from Argentina because Lionel Messi is not the first Argentine player with so much decorations. Diego Maradona is one name that gave Argentina prestige and honour until Lionel Messi era began. Now that Lionel Messi era has ended, another player from Argentina will be reproduced even if he won't come close to the excellence of Lionel Messi. It doesn't matter who takes the number 10 shirt but who will continue with the legacy that Messi kept at Argentina. I even think that a player from Argentina who will likely continue Messi' pathway is not yet playing in the Argentina squad because I haven't really seen anyone in Argentina current squad that can take the mantle.

I don't think it works exactly this way, Maradona was a champion who brought 2 World Cups to his country together with his team, Messi almost succeeded this year, but it doesn't mean that at the end of each generation another talent is born to take the place of the next, I think that with Messi the group of Argentine legends has completely closed, which for me remain Maradona and Messi. They are great players

The difficult in replacing Messi is that he wasn't responsible for a single function in the team. He was responsible for different functions, like scoring, creating the plays, crossing the ball across the field and giving assistance to fellow players. Messi is a complete player and that is something hard to find in the market. The national team will have to change another characteristics and aspects of it in order to adapt themselves to a team without Messi.

Someone will indeed wear the number 10 shirt, but this new number 10 isn't going to be like Messi, and that must be what most concerns the coach, the players and the fans.

Messi played as a libero, because he always knew where on the pitch to arrive to help the team, and he always knew where the ball would arrive and how he would move it before even receiving it. We will never see players with Messi's qualities and with his history again and this is what saddens their fans the most.

All I know for sure is the fact Argentina squad will miss Messi for a long period of time because having the kinds of Messi at this age especially in the team was such a blessing which was enjoyed by them. It will take a long time before they can get such resource like him. Who is going to take over number 10 from the team now is one thing I’m also looking forward to see.

Well, but that's normal. It's like when Dal Piero left Juventus.
Only much more amplified because Messi is literally a legend on a global level. So are players like Del Piero, obviously, but we all know that in terms of quality and quantity of goals, assists, the type of play, Messi is a category above all, together with Cristiano Ronaldo. So when players of this caliber abandon their national team, it almost feels like a real mourning.

After Messi and Ronaldo's retirement am sure that the focus will then be on those Yamal and co, and just then would we see them for the skills and qualities that they possess, so we should all just anticipate that time...

No other Messi, any player replacing Messi in that position is creating his own history with the Argentine club and not attempting to continue from where Messi stopped, nobody can do it like Messi, I would rather be a bit selfish to say that no Argentinian in this present generation can ever do it better than Messi.

Let the young star perform without any comparison, he still has a lot to do in his career, putting him under comparison and expecting a similar result to what the best in the world of football does is demanding more than he can contribute to the club.

There will also be no other Ronaldo for Portugal, same with Messi, we might not see any better player than them again.

is not being selfish and simply saying things as they are, no one can match Messi or surpass him, he is a player who has entered the history of this sport and no one else will be able to reach his level, at most they will be able to take his place and play like they play in all the other teeams, but without their number 10.

A player's career is not very long. As he ages, he has to make way for new players. We remember those talented players of the past whom you mentioned. They were the best in the context of that time. Many people may not have guessed that the next generation would perform even better. Everyone just says that they are the best players of all time. But talent will continue to emerge from every generation and we, the fans, will be fascinated by their performances and appreciate them. There will be a lot of debate about who is more talented, Messi or Ronaldo, but it is true that they are both great in their own right and we still enjoy their game. Mbappe, Yamal or Raphinha, whoever you mention, they will continue to shine for many years to come. They just have to stay physically fit and in shape.

Let's be real: Argentina has no player that, currently, is able to do half of what Messi did. Argentina had an incredible easy path during the last World Cup and yet they heavily relied on a 39-year-old Messi to basically score 80% of the goals. Thiago Almada had a very mediocre career until now considering the expectations we all had on him. Nico Paz is improving a lot but I don't think he'll ever be a real star. Very good player for sure. Let's see.

The team relies a lot on their captain because they know that if the ball goes through his feet something incredible can always happen, like a through pass that no one had imagined or a shot on goal that only he would have thought he could do, or like an play of those that we have become accustomed to seeing over the years.

Comparing Nico Paz to Messi is rather impossible. Nothing against the Como player, but Messi is a living legend – and not just for Argentine fans.
In my view, comparing the two players would only put media pressure on Nico Paz and risk him burning out straight away. Let’s allow the player to develop in peace.

Some football fans can be funny at times, how can someone compare Nico Paz to Lionel Messi the greatest of all time, what has Nico Paz seen or played in football that would prompted such insulting comparisons, the gap between him and Messi is just unthinkable, with such statements Nico Paz will just be under unnecessary pressure which will completely affect his game play because he might want to be making some moves just to impress the fans and before you know it he will become a flop. I know that no one is indispensable but as long as football is concerned for now it is a complete insult to compare Nico Paz with Lionel Messi.
People can express their opinions. But if anyone compare Nico Paz, he will not be even close to Messi. And his career is just starting. However, I want him to play well enough, perform well for the team and take Argentina a long way.

But professional players don't really care about the audience's opinions or attitudes. During the match, everyone wants to provide their best performance. But some players naturally have extraordinary power, while some players try, practice, and prepare themselves for a long time.

In the case of Messi, it worked both ways. Messi was a dedicated enough player. He has confirmed his position as one of the best players in the world by overcoming all kinds of obstacles, practicing and consistently maintaining his performance. So, I don't think there is a need to compare any rising player with Messi at the moment. And all the players who get the opportunity to play in the national team are given a place there because they can perform well enough.

Individually, everyone's abilities are not the same, everyone is different from others according to their own abilities. So comparing someone to someone else doesn't really have much of an impact.
Comparison is not a good thing sometimes especially in a game of football because of as a player, you begin to compare yourself to others especially those who had gone ahead of you in consistency and have achieved alot will just put such a player to unnecessary pressure and when he is under these kinds of pressure, he will not be able to put in his best as he should because he is trying to compare himself with another player entirely. Everyone has his or her natural and unique abilities and when you neglect your abilities to focus on another persons  strength, then you are not going to go far. I know alot of fans will want to start comparing his achievements with that of Messi, he shouldn't allow that to get to him, even if he has the potential to be more than Messi, and he should try to focus on his growth and be consistent on his areas of strength and by so doing, he can build a legacy for himself and not end up as someone that he is not or end up as someone he can not completely fill his shoes.

Messi can show that age does not have a negative impact. Messi was 35 at the 2022 World Cup. Many players retire at this age, but he won the World Cup at this age. And you are right, the maximum goal scored in a match during Messi's time was either scored or assisted. It is impossible to deny that the contribution of Messi during every match. And the team has been used to this for so many years, now it is a matter of seeing how they will overcome this lacking. The team had become more dependent on Messi. Actually, no team wants to depend on one player intentionally, but because of Messi's extraordinary contribution, everyone in the team knew that if he was on the field in the match, he could change the game at any time. And we have seen this happen many times. Now Messi will not be there, now it is a matter of seeing how Scaloni takes the team forward.

Actually a player's career has never been as longeve as it is now. We got used to see players in the their late 30s or even 40s play at very high level, this is something that 20 years ago was unthinkable. Let's take Germany for example: they played in the World Cup with Neuer who was 40 years old at the time. Back in 2002, for the World Cup hosted by South Korea and Japan, Germany was playing with Oliver Kahn, who was 32 or 33 at the time, and he was considered to be very old at the time despite being a goalkeeper. In the last World Cup we had a record-number of very old players taking part at the competition. That's why I disagree with what you said.

Hazard, Bale and Aguero would like to have a word with you here Smiley

We achieved a *chosen* longevity - i.e. players *can* play longer if they want to, the technology allows it.

The thing is, the most still won't push it as hard once they made enough money and the training has gotten a bit harder for them. After all, they have families and want to spend time with them.

Cases like Giggs or Ronaldo will stay big outliers, imho.

Most Messi fans think that the entire Argentina team depends entirely on Messi. But it is difficult to convince them that if Messi is important, Argentina is not completely dependent on him. Perhaps Argentina won the match without Messi in the Copa America match. The contribution of the rest of the players apart from Messi cannot be denied. In particular, Enzo Fernandez's performance and Martinez's goalkeeping were the best. The main thing is that the success of the 2022 World Cup would not have been possible without the mental strength of the entire team.

Are there any destructive defenders nowadays? Not very many. Football is no longer a game of physical strength, but rather a game of strategy. The culture in football today is offensive, and a few decades ago the culture of football was defensive. At that time, destructive defenders were created whose tackles were very deadly and destructive, to play against such a defense, you must be physically strong and strong, which is not the ability of an older player.

But because football is based on strategy nowadays, even older players can play football using their skills and strategies. If Lionel Messi and Ronaldo were fouled in their youth, they would not have survived the last World Cup. Basically, because the culture of football has changed, many players' careers have become much longer now.

That’s what most of the Messi fans don’t understand they think that without Messi Argentina performances would not go going well, and one thing they need to know about football is that because one player has been more popular not mean that his absent will prevent the others players from getting the chance of success. All the Messi fans suppose knows that all players in field are in help of each others, that’s why we can see that everyone of them have their own position that they play.

The question is not how, but when

Argentina could very much succeed after Messi's retirement. The most important thing there, if how Scaloni builds his team . Apart from Messi, Scaloni is another pillar in that team , and 2028 Copa America will tell us if this team can still be better without Messi. I am sure they will do well, they have good players that doing will both in Europe and South America. Messi has done his absolute best for this team, I myself prayed he should retire after this world cup.

But Scaloni's future in the Argentina national team is also uncertain, there been reports that he is kind of angry with way the Federation behaves. Through the match fixtures , bonuses eetc. Before the start do the world cup, scaloni actually wanted his team to face against top national team in order to prepare them but the Federation Instead picked match against weak nations. Till December before we can know Scaloni's fate in this team, and I truly want his go continue, he is not that old . He has built this team since 2020.

A player's career is not very long. As he ages, he has to make way for new players.

Neuer was the oldest German national player ever at the age of 40. Matthäus was the oldest field player at the age of 39 at the European Championship in 2000. He is actually the only German player who became the best footballer in the world. There have been examples in the past for very old players participating in international championships, but intuitively I think you are right that this is shifting towards higher ages step by step. That probably has many reasons, but professional recovery methods, far better medical care and everything related to that plays the biggest role here I guess.

I wouldn't say Kahn was considered "very" old back then as you said, but it's true that the typical goalkeeper age has changed significantly. I agree that people were saying the best age for goalkeepers is late 20s, now sometimes it feels like it is early to mid 30s.

What the World Cup has shown is that 40 years is too much in my opinion. The Neuer at the World Cup in 2014 was a machine, but he isn't like that these days. Less risk appetite, less mobility, less speed, worse reaction time. It's normal and yet he is still playing for Bayern.

We accept that Messi is a world-class player and his performance is extraordinary, but in his absence the team will only play badly and will not be able to play well, but no if Messi leaves, the Argentina team will collapse and become weak, it is natural. However, if Messi leaves, someone else in this team will get a chance and he will also play well. If there are 11 players on the field, then it is natural for one to play well with the help of everyone. But if all 11 players cannot play well from their respective positions, then one player will never be able to play the role of 11. So I want to say that everyone on the field is the best in their respective positions, and I wanted to explain this a long time ago.

Ok, let's analyze the three names you mentioned:
  • Hazard has never been serious professional player. Between drinking and eating he never lived an athlete life. The frequent injuries were a consequence of this lifestyle and his lack of form.
  • Bale got sick of football after all the problems he had at Real Madrid, he clearly said he rather playing golf than staying in Madrid. And that's what he did.
  • Aguero had to retire due to a serious heart condition, so he was simply "unlucky".

Any other player you'd like to mention?  Smiley

What makes Messi truly special is not merely his dribbling or goal-scoring ability, but his unique connection with the game his uncanny knack for anticipating the next move before the ball even reaches him a trait rarely seen in other players. Messi represents an entire chapter in the history of football, embodying a rare, all-encompassing talent that combines every essential skill in one player. No one quite like him has been seen before, and it is unlikely anyone will emerge in the future to match him; this is why his fans hold him in such high regard. That said, it would be incorrect to claim that a player of his caliber will never appear again; a star even greater than him could potentially rise in the world of football. Yet, no one can truly be Messi the football world will undoubtedly remember him forever as a complete and consummate legend.
