I can completely agree with this.
Even before Maradona and Messi, Argentina had a great player, Mario Kempes, who led them to their first World Cup in 1978.
Everyone talks about Portugal and Ronaldo today, but Portuguese football had another great football star and player, Eusebio.
Everyone thought that after Platini, the French national team would no longer have such a player, and then Zidane came along, who brought them their first 2 World Cup finals and 1 title, and now they have Mbappe.
Players are fleeting, they last 15-20 years, but football is eternal and new football stars are always coming and that's the beauty of football.
I think the next World Cup, 2030, will be marked by football stars like Yamal, Mbappe and Haaland, and probably some new football stars will also appear.
Yes, football isn’t dependent on a few players, it is eternal and continues to evolve, as the examples you gave it testifies that there is always a better player to replace, but i think it will be really hard to replace someone like messi but in the end he will eventually be replaced so we shouldnt be stuck to only one player and make him as the basis of our love for football, rather our love should be unconditional and for the sake of the game not a player
Everyone will agree that football is not dependent on a few players, but there is more discussion and gossip about just a few players around the world. Because of a talented player, his country becomes known to viewers from other countries of the world. Even if the viewers do not know the country, because of a talented player, they can learn about the culture of that country and become known to the world.

I remember when Maradona's name was known all over the world, many viewers from many countries did not know the name of that country only because of him his own country is getting more known. There must be love for football but everyone has different preferences and in reality most fans support a player and his club or his country because of his skills and good performance.

Perhaps for this historical period in general i would say yes, that France is certainly a team that provides an almost excessive number of talents and that in fact has a squad on and off the pitch that could play the same starter, they are so well equipped that you are spoiled for choice on who to use.
To me, France's top squad seems to be the strongest, the second squad doesn't have that many star players. France basically started showing their strength by winning the 2018 World Cup, since then they have been producing star players one after another and it is still going on. Before that, they had world-class star players in their team, but the number was so much higher than it is now. Brazil's situation is the opposite, Brazil is no longer producing star players like before. Spain and Argentina have introduced some young talents to the world in recent times.

Argentina is a national team that has always produced star players and even before Messi, Argentina was already a great team and had won the World Cup, so mentally, the team has been strong for a long time. Messi has certainly made Argentina what it is today, even taking them to consecutive finals winning once and losing once to Spain. It’s true that Argentina relies on Messi especially since he is the team captain, but even if Argentina plays without Messi in the future, I think they will adapt easily especially since the new generation in Argentina also produces great players.

So I think Argentina will still be a favorite team in every competition whether in the Copa America or the World Cup even without Messi. Because Argentina always produces talented young players like Nico Paz, Matias Soule, Franco Mastantuono, Claudio Echeverri, and there are still a few other players who might be even stronger by 2030 to strengthen the national team.

I'd say all of South Amrica is a team. I'd say all of South America is a continent that has always produced pure talent. Then there are countries where is more common to find champions, like Argentina and Brazil, but overall, many countries have national teams with players of truly commendable quality. Wink

I see the results of the expansion in the recently concluded World Cup positively. The more expansion, the more new teams will appear in the world cup and new players will also appear. From the recently concluded World Cup, we got teams like Cabo Verde, Norway, DR Congo and Ivory Coast. I don't think the teams have had much impact on the quality of the FIFA World Cup.

The main reason for the deterioration of the quality of the 2026 World Cup was FIFA's controversial decisions and giving an unfair advantage to one team. The most controversial World Cup I have ever seen. But in the case of expansion, we will get to know the new teams. Although the list of favorites to win the title will still be the same old teams, but if the smaller teams play regularly, they can also dream of reaching the final one day.

I don't agree with you on this very point of yours that FIFA gave advantage to a particular team and I know even though you don't want to mention the team I will help mention it and it's Argentina you are talking about, this criticism are just coming because of Messi and I don't see a way that FIFA president favors him, is it the FIFA president that wins games for the team or what exactly is it that made people and guys like you feel they are being favored?.

Football is just all about making money and the FIFA President utilize the opportunity he has to expand the teams that appears in the just concluded world cup to make money, many may not like him but you don't expect same old format of the game, we are in a revolutionary world and new innovations and patterns will also surface. Any good team can win the world cup it doesn't matter whether they have big players or not because what  matters is team performances.

While there have been questionable decisions regarding Argentina, like the foul that Messi committed when he jumped onto that leg from behind and could have been given a red card, the semifinal was not lost because the FIFA favored Afrgentina. The semifinal was lost by England because they stopped playing football altogether suddenly. Strange substitutions, a strange strategic change in the middle of the match, this is the reason why Argentina made it to the final. England had it and no official or referee had any influence on the decision made by Tuchel that his team should completely change from one second to the next.

I agree with what you said about France's current squad depth. Now if they don't have a player in one position, they still have another player of almost the same quality. You are right that their strength has been revealed more after winning the World Cup in 2018. But I think France was a big power in world football even before that. If we go back a little bit, we can see that they won the 1984 EURO, won the first World Cup in 1998, and then won the 2000 EURO. These indicate that even though they won the World Cup in 2018, they were a strong team even before that. They proved even more strongly by reaching the final in 2022 that they are a very strong team.

For me I think the biggest controversy with this Argentina team would be even the World Cup before the recently concluded one which is the world cup at Qatar 2018 and still same semi-finals match up between the Netherlands and Argentina. That game was pure controversy all through, if you can recall Messi had to stop the ball with his hands mate and the referee didn't actually do anything and the entire Netherland team were in shock of the decision.

This is one of the reason Mourinho said the best way to defend is to attack so your opponent will be confused and not come with open hands to find solutions.  England had the opportunity to capitalize of their opponents weakness to go home with the compete three points but because they believed defending was the only solution was why they ended in a shame at last. I think the England's coach Thomas tuchel will learn from this so nest time he can be able to handle such situation especially when it involves a more determined opponent that never jokes with three points (3).

This is the reason why i see those who say that Argentina will be nothing without Lionel Messi as people who are blind or they probably didn't read about the history of Argentina to know that they have always been reproducing great talents. The end of one era can open way for another, this is why i believe that Argentina will not end with Lionel Messi. Just look at the players that you listed out which are all great talents from Argentina. I just flashed back how Di Maria was also very contributive during his prime. Even at the 2022 World Cup, Di Maria tried a lot for Argentina and they won.

My father used say that people said the same thing when Maradona stoped playing... that Argentina would never be the same again, and look what happened in recent years....
The same thing with Brazil after Pelé, and look what happened some years later (even though Brazil declined a lot in the last decade, we won some World Cups after Pelé).

Not team dies when a good player retires, South America will continue producing and revealing many talented players to the world.
Argentina can always do well even without Messi in the team because they have good players that are performing well. When Messi is in the game the rest players dont depend on him , they all contribute to make sure the team wins. Argentina is one of the team that is loaded with players full of talent. Even before Messi joins the Argentina national team i have alwsys heard of Argentina as one of the interesting team in the world cup. I feel Argentina as a country value football so much and this why they always produce talents.

Other countries also have some good upcoming players in their arsenal as well, and in the near future you will see the really high level of competition, even at the moment there is a tough competition on who to carry the balloon d'Or , that is to show you the rate at which good new players are made every season, and if it continues like that I don't think decisions like this will be very difficult to make

But in the last few years, Messi has played a pivotal role in the development of the team to become  world champions of recent years. Being able to win the World Cup previous to the last one and still reach the final stage of the last World Cup. If you watched the games played by Argentina throughout the season especially when things became more tough, you will realise the high level of impact demonstrated by Messi will definitely be felt by the team unless during Messi’s stay with the national team he has also worked hard to coordinate the team before he leaves. Argentina will find it a bit difficult themselves

While everyone can definitely acknowledges that the Argentina National team is definitely blessed with great players I do think they were still carried by the brilliance of Messi and the ability to actually play together as a team. Yes they recognize the importance of Messi to them which most teams will easily depend on but they actually put in a collective effort to get to that stage of the World Cup but still it was heavily influenced by Messi individual brilliance in most of the matches.

If you watched the matches they struggled the countries they played stopped Messi from playing and it’s what caused them problems then. I don’t know what the future holds but to be sincere I do think this Argentina side will struggle a bit without their talisman in major competitions, this i am most certain of happening

What do you mean by "new players will also appear"? We had teams like Uzbekistan, Jordan, Tunisia, South Africa, New Zealand, Panama, Haiti, Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, just to name the first ones that came to mind, that are just a bunch of unknown players, and they made basically zero impact during the tournament. I challenge people to name one single player for each team. 99% of the people wouldn't be able to do it.
For me this expanded version was extremely boring until the knockout stage, we had a bunch of boring and useless matches. I was surely intrigued by Curaçao and Cape Verde but it's nice when there are a few underdog teams, not 10-12.

Messi was not just a player in the Argentina team. He worked as the team's best performer, captain, mentor, coach and motivator. Especially for young players, Messi's presence or being able to play with Messi was their mental strength. Young players have openly admitted sometimes they play only for Messi, they want to win the World Cup for Messi.

So Messi not being in the Argentina team means they will lose a world class player, they will lose a guide, mentor and an impactful playmaker in difficult times. However, since one day or another he would have to leave the Argentina team, because a player cannot play for the rest of his life. Such an ability is absolutely unrealistic. Therefore the Argentina team should maintain the team in the same position without Messi.

Without Messi in the team, it will be difficult for the Argentina team to maintain the proper standards at this time. For the past few years, the team has been dependent on Messi. We have seen the same in the last World Cup. Messi has always played an important role in the team's needs. But he also has to leave. Those who played depending on him now need to build self-confidence in themselves. It is not that the Argentina team does not have good players, but they have not shown anything good yet. In most cases, what has been achieved, Messi's contribution has been shown.

In Messi's absence, several players will have to take responsibility in the Argentina national team, especially Julian Alvarez, Lautaro Martínez, Enzo Fernandez and Rodrigo De Paul. If they can build themselves in that way, the team will be able to maintain their reputation to some extent. It is possible to estimate how far the team can go by reviewing how they perform without Messi.

Well in all honesty the Euro Cup 2020 (which was postponed to 2021 because of covid lockdowns) took place in 11 (eleven!) countries.

Although they were not separated by an ocean like these, eleven is a huge amount. Plus one of them (Azerbaijan) was basically in middle east so the distances were still enormous for some teams and fans.

I'm not supporting that but I wouldn't say it was a disaster, as long as there are no visa problems.

It becomes a disaster for the fans' wallets.
Then there are fans so passionate they'll go to great lengths to see their team. But I also believe that managing tournaments across such large venues becomes a challenge, even in terms of organization, to get things done properly.

Back in 2021 traveling was still rather restricted anyway.

But for those who just wanted to experience the ambience of a Euro Cup at least once it was a super affordable opportunity since for the absolute majority of people Europe there was at least one match nearby where they could get without a visa and in oftentimes even a flight.

Take Brazil, for example: when Pelé retired, everyone feared the worst for the future, but what followed was an incredible golden age, churning out memorable players. Obviously not on a par with Pelé, but just as talented. Off the top of my head, there were Romário, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Leonardo, Zico, Sócrates, Falcão, Bebeto, Kaká, Careca and most likely many others I can't recall right now.

South America has always been a place where the worl's best players have come from, whether they're Brazilian or Argentine, and this will most likely continue for a long time to come.

I believe they went through something similar to what we go through today, when we say Maradona was a phenomenon, who wrote football history. He was probably the idol of someone or many people who suffered when he left the sport. Something we experience today even more intensely with regards to Ronaldo and Messi.

It's true, Spain now plays very similarly to that Brazil of many years ago. Perhaps because so many players have gone to Europe, they already know their style and create their own mix to be effective. That happens a lot, so in Brazil and Argentina there has to be that they shouldn't lose their style. Brazil's style used to be much more prominent than other styles of play, since Brazil has already won quite a few world championships, but now the new generations don't care much about football anymore.

I completely disagree with what you're saying. That is, Spain plays a similar game to Brazil's years ago. i completely disagree. Spain has always played a static tiki-taka style of play, with a lot of ball possession in the opposition's penalty area, which made the game clean but monotonous, while Brazil played a completely free style of play that made your head spin.

There are some things that, unfortunately, most people don't understand. For example, that there really is a before and after Messi, just as there is a before and after Ronaldo.
They are two football legends who truly changed the way we view the sport and influenced and shaped their national teams to such an extent that they created a divide between the before and after.
