I don't know how you watched the recently played World Cup or the Argentina national team. A 39-year-old player who scored eight goals and gave four assists in the World Cup underperformed? Messi put up an extraordinary performance in the last event, and it helped him to make the Ballon d'Or list. The former Argentine captain was instrumental in their silver medal in the competition. He also scored some important goals that helped his team survive some difficult games. I might accept that he didn't contribute much in the finals against Spain.
we can't say that Messi is poor, those who hate Messi also hate football, there's no doubt about this, but i don't understand those who say that they still compare them with Ronaldo and say that Messi is still worthy of the Ballon d'Or, his time is now over, he's certainly an excellent player but not at the level of the current boys who are there.

Messi has honestly disappointed me in recent years, simply reduced to a shadow of himself, without desire and without creativity. Sara, at the World Cup I was expecting just one good play from him and instead he was completely absent. If we want to use young people's language, he "ghosted" the World Cup.
I only have a question for you: did you watch the World Cup with the TV off? Because that would be the only logical explanation for this (useless) post. First of all I don't even understand what you mean by "Messi has honestly disappointed me in recent years", he basically moved to Florida to play for fun, he is basically retiring there, and yet the numbers are still great, but nobody really cares about Messi's performances now that he is the USA. And then the WC part: if Argentina made it to the final was just thanks to Messi.

They never get a chance to troll Messi, so they satisfied themselves by making a pointless post. I don't know why he was born after the 2026 World Cup, if he was born during or before the 2026 World Cup, he might not have had to make such a post. Maybe he is referring to Ronaldo by mentioning Messi's name! We don't need to mention how well Messi has performed even in his last years, rather his statistics will speak for themselves.

Any time i see this Messi comparison to either Mbappe or Lamine Yamal i just laugh, how can u compare the G.O.A.T to players that haven’t achieved much even in their prime, even if they give Mbappe and Yamal another 30years of play they can’t match Messi record or quality, Messi has left a mark that can’t be filled in years to come, see what he did when he was in Barcelona, he used football to tell a story that generations to come won’t forget. -snip-
Well, Yamal is good, and Mbappe is great, but comparing Messi to those two players, I think that's pretty silly. So far, the only player who could be debated as being on the same level as Messi is CR7; other than that, no player can match the achievements of those two legends. So I think we also need to use some sense when comparing one player to another. Because if those two players were compared to players on their generation, whether it was Haaland or other top players, that would make much more sense. But you can't simply put those players in the same category as Messi or CR7, they're just in a different class.

You sound very biased. I refuse to believe that someone who has seen at least one full season of Ronaldo's play could genuinely write something like that. Even at Manchester United (the first term) he became famous as someone who could change the game singlehandedly and in a matter of minutes. And that included the UCL games, which he eventually won with United in 2008. It's ok if you're a CR7 hater but some respect where respect is due is a must for every true football fan. I am not a hater at all. I think Ronaldo was one of the best players this world has ever seen. But I think players should adapt to circustances, he didn't. Messi ew he can't play the same way he used to, and he changed. Ronaldo thought he could play the same way forever. See how Ronaldo played at the world cup, see how Messi did. I think that should be enough evidence to see the difference.

OK, we can agree that Messi and Ronaldo have marked the last 20 years of world football and that, in terms of individual and team achievements and trophies, they are the best footballers, while Mbappe, Haaland and Yamal have yet to reach their levels. However, are they really the best footballers of all time? Better, for example, than Pele, who was the world champion 3 times with his Brazil? That is still a legitimate debate. Personally, I have the feeling that Lamine Yamal is an extraordinary football talent and maybe the future GOAT, but of course, he is still too young and we should wait with such predictions. I can't wait to see him at the next world cup in 2030, will he lead Spain to 1 more world championship title? In that case, we could talk about him as the legitimate successor to Messi and Ronaldo.

But you can't simply put those players in the same category as Messi or CR7, they're just in a different class. This seems exaggerated to me too. Because Yamal's career has just begun. He is still learning a lot of new things. Although his performance can be seen as good in some time , he can also be seen making a lot of mistakes. This is his lack of experience and responsibility. If Yamal can fix these things with time, he may be a world class player. But I don't know if he can be equal for Ronaldo or Messi. However Ronaldo has achieved a lot personally. But he could not win a World Cup in his career. And towards the end of his career, he is performing very poorly. As a result, his own team player and the manager has started disrespecting him. This is really bad. Because he has contributed a lot to Portugal. But in the end, Ronaldo himself should have kept his own respect. And Portugal should have respected Ronaldo the way Argentina respects Messi. But they could not do that. If you think about it from this perspective, Messi has gone far ahead of Ronaldo. So while Yamal may be able to become a player like Ronaldo in the future, there are considerable doubts as to whether he will be able to be like Messi.

but really these comparisons still need to be made, they are both very strong players and are at a very high level, but in this tie mbappe was much more incisive than yamal who always disappears in big matches and big events, i don't understand why, even if the two goals that mbappe scored are not so exceptional, Real Madrid won.

Yamal is in another level of his own because of his track records and age most especially actively playing now that Messi and CR7 are gradually retiring, this two guy's Mbappe and Yamal may break or even beat Messi and Ronaldo football record in the future, so the comparison may timely wrong, but objectively right because history is going to bring us back to that discussion in the future when both players attain such success level as they are going right now.

Football, and football players of course, changed so much during the years that, in my opinion, is impossible to name a single best player. Every age of football had some incredible players for different reasons. And everybody can consider certain achievements more important than others: number of World Cups won, Champions Leagues won, Ballon d'Or, number of goals, etc etc. But to me football is and has always been than numbers on paper. Making a comparing between Pele (who, by the way, I'm pretty sure none of us has ever seen playing...) and Messi or Ronaldo makes no sense.

You are right. It cannot be considered the best World Cup just by analyzing individual achievements. Mbappe's best World Cup was in 2018, when France won the World Cup. And Mbappe still seems strong enough. His speed and stamina are still high enough. He will naturally be able to play in the 2030 World Cup while maintaining his good position. Looking at his current performance, it is certainly understood how influential he can still perform. And in the last World Cup, he proved that he still maintains his world-class playing style . Although he was not discussed much. Especially the entire world media was busy with news about Argentina and Messi related issues at that time. Although there were enough reasons behind this. But for those who like Mbappe, they think that was Mbappe's best performance. And maybe he will move forward in the next World Cup with maintaining his position.
Mbappe has performed well in almost every FIFA World Cup but you are right that 2018 World Cup was the best for him because his team won the World Cup trophy but in the next World Cup this player won the Golden Boot but Argentina won the trophy also we noticed that he scores a lot of goals in this 2026 World Cup as well which made this player the highest scorer in men's FIFA World Cup with almost 22 goals already. Even I observed that Mbappe scored the highest goal in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup,So it seems that his pace and stamina are still good and the player has been performing well in every match for Real Madrid in La Liga even he managed to score two goals in yesterday's El Clasico match against Barcelona.

I think Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are both the best in both aspects, they should be put on an equal footing rather than being compared.

Ronaldo is unquestionably one of the best players of all time and there is no doubt about it, i think he is also a very intelligent player who understands how he has to readapt and what the best role is for him, in fact every season he has adapted to a new position and has been doing very well for years now.

Yes there are players in the World Cup who exalt themselves and give their best, a bit like Pele, a somewhat risky comment, a comparison for sure, but mbappe i think he is at that level, when he plays in the World Cup he transforms and becomes the leader of the game for France giving a lot of satisfaction.

Age is something that always affects a player even if Ronaldo doesn't physically show his age, i think it makes itself felt a little and he is no longer comparable to a 20 year old player who is the driving force of a team at the highest levels, the utmost respect for Cristiano Ronaldo who is always the best but it's time to make room for the youngsters.

That is a very interesting way too look at it, and it's why messi and ronaldo's rivalry has been so unique because there cant be any other two players in the same age group being at the top stage of football, we cant just degrade messi and ronaldo just because they have gotten old but rather we should acknowledge their top-class dominance in this sport that cant be replicated by any other player. Mbappe and Yamal are good but you know, Ronaldo and messi aren't that low-standard players that they will be replaced before they even retire. It will take a significant time to replace them First of all there is a big difference between one balon dor and 4 consecutive ones, which messi achieved before the age of Mbappe. But apart from that i didn't say that messi was better only'because he won the balon d'or, i wont say anything. You say yourself, is messi only better in terms of balon dor from Mbappe? Or are there numerous things he is better than mbappe at. So i'll say that there's no comparison between messi and Mbappe
Messi has honestly disappointed me in recent years, simply reduced to a shadow of himself, without desire and without creativity. Sara, at the World Cup I was expecting just one good play from him and instead he was completely absent. If we want to use young people's language, he "ghosted" the World Cup. I don't know why you think that. If you had considered his last World Cup performance carefully, you might not have said that. He has been involved in 12 goals in the entire tournament. Of which he scored 8 goals himself and provided 4 assists. He is 39 years old and he is playing so well at this age, yet some people do not forget to criticize him. Even at this age, he contributed greatly to taking Argentina to the World Cup final. Although Argentina lost to Spain, Messi won the Silver Ball and Silver Boot of the competition. He even played exceptionally well, which I did not think was lost in his creativity.

He's aged enough and still yet, he does the magic on the pitch. Leo Messi is that player we look up to when we're talking about longevity in football, not only football but performing at the very top phase in football. Messi deserves his accolades as the undisputed GOAT in football. Leo Messi was the one that carried Argentina on his back in the world cup, his goals and assists made them reach the final where they faced Spain.

Leo Messi is a genius in football because explain to me how he's able to pull up such stats despite his age? He's aged enough and still yet, he does the magic on the pitch. It would be foolish to compare Messi with anyone else at the moment. If someone compares Messi's current performance with Ronaldo, Mbappé or anyone else at the moment, then I would say that person probably doesn't like Messi or hasn't seen Messi play yet. There was a time when Messi was compared to Ronaldo but with time Ronaldo's performance has deteriorated a lot and now comparing Ronaldo to Messi would definitely be a big fool. But yes if we could see Neymar's physical position well and if Neymar's physical position was like Ronaldo and Messi's then I think he could definitely be compared to Neymar

I agree with you that Messi, considering his age, played brilliantly at the last World Cup in America and is the most deserving of Argentina playing in the final again. However, this was possible because the entire Argentine team subordinated their game to Messi, so that he did not have to help in defense and was focused only on attack. It is obvious that Messi is no longer physically powerful as before but he had much more support from his team than Ronaldo in the Portuguese team. Unlike Messi, Ronaldo is going through big problems in the Portuguese team and is losing the support of the Portuguese fans. However, without Messi, it will be a completely different Argentina team at the next World Cup and I think it will be very difficult to repeat the results they had in the last 4 World Cups, when they played in the final 3 times and were world champions once.

There should be no doubt that Messi is a legendary player but still some people may criticize him. The reason for this criticism may be that they are supporters of a different team. But if a person looks at Messi performance statistics carefully, he may consider him the best among all other players. Even if someone analyzes Cristiano Ronaldo's past performances, he will also consider him the best legendary player in the world. Both of them still perform impressively and are popular with the fans. I think each player is talented in his own way, when comparing Ronaldo and Messi, I am just surprised by their style of play and different perspectives and the records they have made because no one can surpass the other. Both are the best footballers.
