You have to be careful about drive feezing, because if you go too cold, or run the drive for too long at cold then the spindle bearings will be destroyed. The bearings may damage the platter surfaces if they emit any particles or gelled lubricant while running cold, which would dramatically decrease the chances of data recovery by any paid service.

geeez! Backup folks.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

geeez! Backup folks.

His most +EV play here is simple.  Do not do ANYTHING to the drive.

1.  Buy ~$200+ in XMR (this step is optional).
2.  Put drive on shelf.

If XMR goes to the MOON then he can easily afford to recover the other drive, and he will not have done any extra damage by spinning up a damaged drive.   If XMR fails then he's out what?  A couple hundred bucks?  All the while you get to enjoy being part of the speculative family again.

Yes, jeez. It's cheaper to buy new coins for him than to repair the hard-drive. Keep it around, at one point it might be cheaper to repair it that buy the equivalent.

All this drive feezing and so is good advice for a hard drive with spinning platters, but didn't we find out a few pages back that the drive in question is a SSD...?

Indeed. I think it morphed into a "share your tips and tricks you've learned" kinda thing.

Is there a current list of Monero exchanges somewhere?

https://getmonero.org/getting-started/merchants lists only poloniex, bittrex and melotic. (Never heard about the last one, and it seems to be broken as well...)

it seems our ghost non-community member run site monero.org has a full list

http://monero.org/services/exchange/

this is a list as well:

https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/monero/trading_exchanges

I have no idea which one of those work. But from those lists, and from my own googling,

https://bter.com/trade/xmr_btc
https://hitbtc.com/terminal/XMRBTC
bittrex
shapeshift
poloniex

I wonder if /r/monero-markets guy has a good list going.

Yeah... you should microwave those for a little while to fix them.

The oven itself must be upside-down, and placed inside a freezer for some time before and while it's working. A popular saying also says "Not too long though, or it could damage it".

Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's.
This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

Great work guys Smiley
Is Monero already on your list of coins to add ?

Thanks Smiley

For now we only support BTC, BTS and NXT based coins. I will add CryptoNote and NEM later, but I absolutely can't tell when. Will be a while, my to-do-list is getting bigger instead of smaller all the time Wink
The code's on github though, anyone could add it...

from the HZxchange thread.
Now only if i had a clue how to do this Smiley

Crossposting for visibility:

I'm presenting Dash at the Barcelona Bitcoin Meetup in Barcelona next Tuesday. To any dasher around the area... please come and help spread the word!

http://www.meetup.com/bitcoin-barcelona/events/222636340/

The Barcelona BTC meetup is the biggest in Spain and one of the most attended ones in Europe. Besides the usual attendance (30-40 people), all people at the Bitcoin panel in the Symposium on Electronic Crime Research (eCrime 2015), that takes place in Barcelona that same day, are invited:

https://apwg.org/apwg-events/ecrime2015/

The organization expects many of them to go to the meetup and this could be a good opportunity to present Dash in a more friendly way to this audience.

I will do a 20-30 min overview of Dash, covering masternodes, darksend, instantX and blockchain governance. We will try to connect with Evan via Skype for the Q&A, but we don't know for sure yet because we need to test the audio at the venue first.

aleix made this possible and he will record the presentation. We'll make the video and the deck available so anyone can use.

I will be travelling to Barcelona specifically for this. Depending onf the final arrangements, I expect the cost of the train and the hotel to be around 200-250 EUR (80-100 DASH). I'll be doing this anyway, but donations to help cover the costs are more than welcomed Smiley My address is XcuTUeqH3zQmrfWQB3APRWLWkvM2fshpQc

If there is any excess over the cost, I'll tip attendees who download the wallet after the event so they can try Dash.

Would be nice if someone from the Monero community could go as well.

Nobody answered a question so far, so I will ask again: how do you back up your mymonero wallet?
Apparently, there is a .keys file, but where is it?
Since I am not a developer and/or programmer, some relatively easy path for a "common" web user would be much appreciated.
For example, bitcoin web wallet (blockchain.info) gives you easy means to download the wallet backup file.
Thanks.

Where did you hear that? Just saving the 13 word seed is sufficient to back up your account.
