IMO, Poloniex has done nothing wrong. They have enough trouble keeping up with everything that it takes to run an exchange. You have no right to call it the poloniex scam, as they didn't ask users to send those funds. They offered a service, and they are the best exchange for trading XMR. You have a lot of anger in your words, and on top of your red trust rating, I'm not inclined to believe you are doing this for the benefit of anyone. Should polo tell people they need to use a payment ID? yes. However, I just looked at my polo balance screen and saw this: Deposit: You MUST send your deposit using the unique Payment ID below. Failure to do so may result in the loss of your deposit. It would seem that they are doing what they can do warn users that they must use a payment ID. If the users are not worried enough to contact polo about their funds, why must polo spend hundreds of hours (paid to the employees, no less) tracking down people who didn't follow instructions and don't care enough to go after the funds? Furthermore, fluffy is right. There is no reason the funds should go back to the developers. The funds should be returned to the people who sent them if there is a way to link them back. If not, polo should be able to keep them. I would like to thank polo for giving us a good platform to trade XMR upon, including using XMR as a base pair. Their platform is better in responsiveness than cryptsy, and the features are better than bittrex. If it weren't for them, it is possible that XMR wouldn't have as much exposure as it does now.

We as a community need to do something about POLONIEX keeping the unclaimed XMR for themselves. Tens of thousands of XMR have been sent from pools to poloniex without the paymentID, these coins can never be claimed and we can't let poloniex just keep them!
Lets first force them to publish total unclaimed XMR balance, then we push for a new policy - if not claimed within two months all unclaimed coins go to the DEV TEAM
At this point I consider poloniex straight out scammers, they have never addressed this issue.
Post this on the Poloniex thread as well if there is one. See how they respond.

I've sent (on accident) coins to poloniex and they've 'disappeared' - never again. 4AqrzGPfEKeZrVXyPDNXUrNeKZZGNYiXMDoY49PvdffKNTRg6xp2Qz74SZ72gT5F9HH8Vaic99ndRg6 UBGcVijaNStQjwwf
This was a few months ago and i've learned my lesson with a painful loss.
I've sent coins to Poloniex without a payment ID a bunch of times (embarrassing, I know) and I've merely opened a support ticket, given them the relevant info, and they've manually processed the deposit for me. This was my assumption too. Not making an effort to credit them to the right account would not be good for business.

They've credited XMR sent without payment ID manually a lot of times. Many such cases were reported in this and other Monero threads, but you need to have the relevant information about the transaction.
The discussion is about unclaimed XMR, do we let them keep it or do we ask for an audit, make them keep an updated unclaimed amount public + introduce a new policy that allows them to redirect the funds to development group the community chooses (does not have to be the official dev team). It's a (mostly) perfectly fungible cryptocurrency, we can't force them to do anything. If they choose, of their own accord, to donate the funds that is their prerogative, but we would not ask or insist that of them. More importantly, dealing with this matter with hostility will leave them disinclined to be of assistance. If this matter is important to you then I would suggest you send Poloniex an email and discuss it with them directly. People like you never get things done. You passive problem solving got us where we are, development-wise. I'm out, find someone else to chase your donations. Thank god. Hopefully that also means you will stop posting here. No one wants to read your nonsense.

This is unacceptable. Poloniex shouldn't get away with it and I'm surprised it's happened, as I too have been awarded my XMR after sending without Payment ID. If this happens to users, posting here would maybe give devs/community members the chance to put pressure on Poloniex.
I lost a few hundred by sending to someone else's account address on poloniex without a payment ID, once. Support staff did not help. I found this quite annoying, and lost a lot of respect for the operation as a result. I still keep some funds there and trade them a bit, however. How is the liquidity on bittrex these days?

Just to give some counterbalance. I deposited nxt at poloniex and for some reason it didn't credit to my account. I sent them a message and had a reply in less than 10 minutes. The problem was rectified in a couple of hours. I was really impressed with the service.

Either the coins should've been sent to aminorex's account because he owned the payment ID or he should've sent the payment ID to his friend to send to support so they could identify the correct account to credit the coins to.

Correct you are. In fact, upon review of this message history, I see that my recollection was in error: It did have a payment id, f9e3a1177d0369ca9f083f27abeb5783091e2e7e227495319ceb51f6ca391079. The translation in particular is 9d47a2ee519406c62c4989f7f825702876002d66d7cf211e07f1c4931e2e8f30 and found in block 245354.
As the bulk of communication with support was conducted by the intended recipient, I cannot attest to the competence of the overall dialog. I did believe at the time that I had done diligence for my part, including informing support of the non-receipt and payment id. I subsequently stopped using non-zero mixin when sending to poloniex, and all payments were received as intended thereafter. Non-zero mixin provides deniability.

I am no Poloniex user. I dont understand what happened in aminorexs case. Please explain. I had planed to deposit BTC on Poloniex soon, to buy XMR obvious.
Or in other words, is Poloniex still the best and most recommend exchanger to buy our coin?

Yes. Ive never had any issues with them. They got hacked once and paid everyone back, didnt pull a runner. Just make sure if you ever deposit XMR to polo you use a payment ID so that you don't have to waste time with tech support.
