Hello we are new to Crypto ... What was the ATH of monero before? Does it have the potential to ever reach $7 like LTC..if so when? Any major updates coming? ATH in USD per coin was around $6 (0.01 BTC) about a year ago. Emission is *radically* different now, so a direct comparison isn't very apt. Additionally BTC is somewhere around 50% of where it was a year ago. ATH in market cap isn't that far off from current, probably about 100% higher or so. A comparison with $7 LTC also isn't very apt, as LTC has almost 5x more coins right now.

In early September we will reach an emission milestone which I think could have a major psychological impact on the feeling of Monero scarcity. Take advantage of cheap prices and or start mining now Once 50% of all Monero have been mined people may be more unwilling to sell near current price levels

Can anybody express very clearly what the cryptonote Qt wallet would bring to the table that the existing wallets don't?
|
Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's. This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

I think people are expressing a desire for an official wallet that supports the Monero logo, etc. The cryptocurrency wallet is the "gateway" into the particular cryptocurrency. It needs to be easy on the eyes, catchy, flashy, elegant, etc. Its a marketing thing. Of course, this has nothing to do with the actual nuts and bolts of Monero; however, it attracts users.

So it's only about this "official" word, seriously? You should try to convince Jojatekok to rename his wallet "officialX" so everyone's happy.

Actualy I am not in favor of "officializate" an existent wallet, the current wallets use simplewallet API, I dont think that official wallet should need to use the simplewallet API and should have the API integrasted in it as part of the wallet, at the momment (for what i know) there is no wallet comunicating directly with the daemon... In other prespective i am more favorable to have "trust" wallets, a list of wallets where the code opensource and the comunity trust the dev(s) of that wallet MoneroX is my first candidate to that, but can be more than one, i think that when official LMDB bins came out someone should provide an "All in one" package

Why do you care? Don't contribute then... You just took a part of what I said and mock it. No need for your cynicism. Maybe I'm tired to read the same debate over and over again. If it was just a group of people doing something, I wouldn't care, but you're asking the core team to vouch for it and the entire community to accept this idea.

From a differences perspective I don't think any of the other wallets are integrated solutions where you don't have run a separate node, possibly a separate simplewallet, and then the wallet itself. The cryptonote Qt is like Bitcoin Qt. You just need that one binary and you are good to go. From a technical perspective that is arguably a negative due to no separation of concerns and lack of a clear security boundary between your private keys and the rest of the code, but many people know the Bitcoin Qt model and find it acceptable.

By the way, just because I am focused on China does not mean I do not care about other countries. I actually have been sending PMs to translators who speak other languages (besides Chinese) the last few days and directing them to our getmonero.org forum to make a proposal.
I want the entire world to find out about Monero and how it can help protect their financial privacy!

The "official GUI" argument is becoming valid because there is a minimum level of expectation that comes to user experience that sooner or later we have to address. I don't think it's unreasonable to have a basic GUI bundled in the release. In fact it's unreasonable to expect Monero's user base to continue to grow without one.

^^This. I am of the impression the reason the GUI has been continually delayed is for Monero's PTB to accumulate. Which I really have no problem with as I'm looking for cheap coins myself.

Is there a donation address for I2P integration? I think resiliency, not adoption, should be be the highest priority. Adoption will take care of itself given a superior product. 99.9% of the millions of people capable of using a CLI don't know or GAF about XMR, and those are the ones who can help build the GUI, etc.

Brain wallets are fine. All you have to do is make it a combination of randomly generated string that's short enough to be memorized, a more traditional pass-phrase (your mothers maiden name + your fathers birthday + your favorite candy, or how ever normal people make passwords), and then something public domain tacked on the end to add some entropy almost for free. Ezpz and no "brainflayer" is going to ever crack that.

Interesting theory but I doubt this is the case. I believe projects are just being worked on according to the order in the development roadmap. Of course the development team is working on other related projects as well such as Crypto Kingdom, etc

Ezpz and no "brainflayer" is going to ever crack that. Additionally you can use multiple applications of a hash function (a very large number that you remember), so that it takes an hour or even a day or so to go through on a regular machine. It's intrinsically sequential, you can't speed it up by parallelizing, and if you use multiple hashing functions you're likely protected from asics. All this is just few lines in bash. Plus it has the side effect that you must wait a day to get your funds, so you won't spend it drunk
