I know someone has been looking at it but I don't want to disclose anything about it because I don't know how serious of project it is, nor how it is going.

Someone stepping forward to take the lead on it would be good. I'm sure collaboration could be arranged to eliminate duplicated effort (if any).

recompiled and resynced with my macbook pro from 2009 with ssd, fantastic work guys!
over all impression is a lot more mature now.
it is also not hard to see that someone really tuned this baby up, all the milisecound measurements etc. the log is a little bit crazy all together, but its ok to leave it on log_level 0 for now so everyone can see i guess Smiley

dont know how long syncing took, sure some hours. bottleneck seemed to be the CPU/wifi

after sync:
saving blockchain: 600 ms
open deamon and have it up and running: 4-5 sec
memory: ~25MB

this is huge. this is the foundation we want!

in 0.8.8.6, 9 simplewallet and 15 bitmonerod commands.
in 0.8.8.7, 22 simplewallet and 27 bitmonerod commands.

btw. i think this would be worth a major upcount. 0.8.9 or even 0.9 Shocked

There is a separate option for the low level timing stuff. Look in --help or in NoodleDoodle's commit message (was posted here a while back).

Official Notice

The Mausoleum of the Marquess of Arda constructed; the Estate wants to be dissolved

The first man to die in the Kingdom, the Marquess of Arda, has been buried to his beloved haw, near the Botanical Gardens. The mausoleum is aboveground, quite small and simple in appearance.

The Marquess' Estate has held many auctions in the past and the proceeds have been given to the Monero developers according to his spoken will. Yet there still remains a very large hoard of 10 kilos of gold and other valuables, almost 10,000 mil in total. We would give the Estate to the complete control of Monero developers to do what they wish with the remaining funds. (It has to be noted that this donation is larger than anything recorded in the cAPSLOCK XMR HoF.)

Please appoint the manager for the Estate.

Only web-based wallets which do not by design send the private keys (or in the case of monerowallet unencrypted private keys) to the server.

monerowallet.com (third party, with assistance from fluffypony)
mymonero.com (from fluffypony, core team member)

I think monerowallet.com may have a packaged app, but it is still relying on a server back end, similar to a web wallet.

These do have a privacy reduction aspect and various incremental security risks compared to a standalone wallet on a computer.

I would like to start contacting members of the media to encourage coverage of the privacy limitations of Bitcoin and the implications of emerging alternatives such as Monero.

Can I have some confirmation that:

1. The community would like this type of attention
2. The are members of the dev team who would be willing to talk to the media if I can set this up

In addition, summaries:

Media has an essential function inside any niche. Every community has its power structure and as soon as that niche grows enough to support us, the media has an obligation to repay that support by illuminating the truth, not further clouding it.

CoinTelegraph’s secrecy, which extends beyond its readers and onto its stable of writers, creates an atmosphere that discourages any illumination of the truth. You can’t justly call on the powerful to come out of the shadows if you stand in them yourself.

While some have cast doubt on my assertion, I have no doubt that CoinTelegraph was funded by Bytecoin from at least when I started and continues to get funding from the stable of CryptoNote coins, among other clients.

My suspicion is that someone close to the Bytecoin team, perhaps the Bytecoin team itself, owns CoinTelegraph. But it could be as CryptoCoinNews P. H. Madore proposed, that they are simply funded by MinerGate, which they certainly have connections to...

Relevance to Monero:

Quote
When they still trusted me, they trusted me a lot, and send me instructions such as this one, telling me exactly what kind of information needed to be included in Bytecoin articles

Here is a screen shot of an anchor file they sent me, in .xml format. They were never that specific for any other clients.

It hardly ended there and they made it very clear to me that while they favored all of the CryptoNote Coins outside of Monero, Bytecoin was their clear favorite and was pumped from nearly the beginning

But none of this is news to any of us here of course.
