I am probably a bit dated and definitely behind the ball, but I am wondering if anyone can help me out...I installed the Monero GUI client wallet about a month ago.  I have mined to it some, to the point of about 16 XMR.  These never showed up in my wallet.  I tried a couple things and then kind of gave up.  Here it is a month later and I am still trying to get this thing going.  I did a backup of the wallet (contains .bin, address.txt, .keys file).  I am trying to figure out how I can get these to be restored within the wallet.  I would really prefer a GUI wallet for simplicities sake but I am not above going commando...err, command-line, to get these XMRs back....can anyone assist with this issue?

Probably best to start out on the GUI thread. There is probably a way to recover a wallet with the GUI using the keys file, but I'm not an expert on the GUI.

Indeed, thanks, Smooth.  You're doing yeoman's work in supporting XMR users in the forums, and responding correctively to misinformative/disinformative posts.

I think your blockchain download is incomplete or corrupt.

Try downloading it again or use my torrent bundle: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg8722972#msg8722972

Wallet and mining this coin looks to be a real pain!  Why is it made to be so difficult to setup?  Seems like only people that are computer savvy can mess with this.

Not really.  There are miners available to download and pools available to mine at like most coins.  There are also some GUI implementations of the wallet.  IT's just different than the usual coin that is based off of the Bitcoin protocol.  I actually like the command line interface but I go back to the days of DOS and have been using Linux for years.

You can find links to all the binaries and a list of pools in the ANN https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6382239#msg6382239

I couldn't find a recent tutorial and the official website information would likely cause more confusion than anything.  Maybe the XMR guys are listening and will get an easy to understand tutorial put together if it doesn't already exist.

Other than that, the instructions on the mining pools are pretty straightforward and they have links to the miner downloads as well.

If you have a specific question you should ask it.  I'm sure someone would be able to answer it for you.

I did a user guide for the Windows Monero .Net Client a while ago which explains it in pretty simple terms, have started on a similar guide to Monero in general but need to motivate myself to finish it Smiley

Pool admin @ http://cryptonotepool.org.uk/ - for miners who value reliability (and like orange)!
Currently donating all of our 1% pool fee to the dev fund - mine at CryptonotepoolUK and support XMR at no extra cost!

Yeah thanks guys, wasn't really commenting so much for myself as I am pretty savvy on a pc and I too remember and "kinda" miss the old DOS days:-)  Just seemed to me that may would have troubles and I myself questioned whether the effort would be worth it to be honest, but I will give her a go I suppose.

I did find the user guide and step by step so I should be able to get it going without much issue.

Thanks to you both for your replies!

Ok, stopped right out of the gate!  Downloaded wallet from "http://monero.cc/downloads/monero.win.x64.latest.zip" and it is infected and not with false positives we are used to seeing.

VirusTotal shows the following infections in this wallet..........

1.  Hacktool.Win64.Agent.ALn
2.  not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win64.Agent.x
3.  Trj/Chgt.F

Funny it said the file was previously scanned and was completely clean, I told it to rescan and this is what it came up with.  Not risking this one being fake.

Holy crap......just scanned the CPU miner and it is LOADED as well.  I am sure many are false positives but this was found to have over 21 viruses, numerous Trojans.

With all the crap out there these days, this is enough to scare me off this coin.  I am used to seeing some false positives here and there due to miners but this is too steep for my risk levels.

coin miners often get false positives, in this case the bitmonerod.exe also a miner. Bitcoin and it's Minerd mining client also get false positives.

If you want to invest, wouldn't you prefer a low price for entry? Roll Eyes

actually current price is still way higher than all previous bottoms, check all-time chart on Poloniex.

About why people selling, i dunno because i can't give advice on short term pricing Grin Honestly, i'm surprised that price still keep stablely after recent attack. I was expecting a big crash after the attack but it didn't happen.

Does this coin have anymore room for growth? Looking for something that's ready to pop, but not overly risky. If that's possible.
