Simply put, you will not make decent money forging, it's not what it's for.

I'd like to counter-balance your statement a bit - won't make decent money forging at this point.
...

That is all true, but as transaction number increases, fee will be lowered. Fee will be 0.1 very soon.
I'm the first to encourage anyone and everyone to invest in Nxt, but doing it purly for forging profit is a recipe for disappointment. Classic miners mentality won't work in Nxt.

edit: I made a post about the forging for network security yersterday, I think it's also relevant here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=639819.msg7192186#msg7192186

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

The classic miners mentality will have to adapt to NXT philosophy, that's true Smiley
But there is still a profit opportunity here, that was my point.
Besides, one can do indirect mining, by mining sha256/scrypt coins and selling them for NXTs, and then use those NXTs to (lease-)forge.

You can forge with 1 NQT, 10 NQTs, 100000 NQTs
AFAIK this is wrong. Forging begins with 1NXT.  Roll Eyes

Then you might have a look at https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/src/9b0ffb406e08cc7e8aed5161f362b2d1640c8647/src/java/nxt/Account.java?at=master#cl-253

*Forgive me if this is a silly question, im new here*

I have 50 NXT coins, and have been forging for 3 or 4 days.
Am i essentially wasting my time forging with such a little balance?

I would like to have a steady stream of coins into my balance.
Whats the best way to accomplish that goal?

Thank you in advance

Are you serious? 50 NXT forging for 3 or 4 days? I dont think it is worth to forge because the power fee is more expensive than 50 NXT.
If you really want to forge, I would suggest buy more NXT than 100,000

So if i had 100k NXT, how much would a weeks worth of forging yield?

I have heard 1 block each day. But, do not nail me down on this. Key here is long-term.

When you forging a block, you obtain 1 NSC (6775372232354238105) asset in AE, its value at this moment is 11 NXT, so you can add this value per block.

One more thing: NXT

That's true, the forging calculator should include NSC.
It would be fairly simple to get the current price of NSC and add it to the calculations.

Exactly, that's why I made a point there is a profit opportunity here even if the tx fee is lowered to 0.1, it won't matter much for profitability. By the time big stakeholders stop buying up the NSCs from forgers, the number of txs will allow forging to sustain profitability for forgers, provided all the planned and in-the-works features of NXT and NXT itself becomes popular enough.

150 000 blocks generated over the next 6 months * 11 NXT per NSC = 1.5 mln. NXTs, I think big stakeholders can afford that easily to ensure protection of the network. In 6 months from now, if NXT can't be at least #2 on coinmarketcap, it probably failed.

EDIT: in other news, Bter's NXT coffer has lost some funds in the last 2 days, and little new funds are deposited, meaning few sellers and perhaps the price has bottomed now.

For anyone who isn't aware, Emule is Nxt's most persistent troll on the 2600+ page megathread  Grin He has a long history with Nxt.

Permadoom monger, credits include taking credit for any dips in price due to his selling (like the last one from $100m Emule?  Wink ), questioning the sexuality of other user's mothers, incorrectly predicting Nxt will go to 0.000031 at every dip and being Come-from-Beyond's favourite  Grin

Don't worry, he is harmless.

OMG, Emule, we missed you - our own resident troll. Our cute cuddly Emo is the best thing that ever happened to Nxt. Can't wait for the MS Paint Price Charts.

Ok, do your thing. I have BTC in BTER and my mouse on the buy button. I don't know if it's possible, but if you really work hard, maybe you can even get CFB to comeback on BCT, but you have to do your best.
