What is the website (and who runs it) that will alert you by email if your NXT is moved from a specified account?
I was wondering if this could be expanded to include an alert if and when your Node goes down...

LOL .. Good Point .. Glass half full !!
How difficult would it be to include a 'notification of pending transfer' step in the wallet that would need to be 'approved' by the wallet holder prior to authorizing/completing a withdrawal ??
Triff ..

What's the point?? If the robber has access to your account, he will authorize-approve the transaction anyways! LOL!

"LOL" aside ..
I'm assuming there are procedures that would prevent this .. Cryptsy and Cex.io send an e-mail that I must respond to prior to completing a withdrawal request .. I've also had accounts that make a phone call with a 'code' that I must type to complete a transaction ..
Triff ..

Nxt is implementing phasing of payments. There aren't a lot of details for it but it will mean a transaction is held until another criteria has been met. There is also new features in Account Control being developed that you sound like you're interested in. Leased Forging is a feature of account control. In the same way you can lease for x blocks, you will also be able 'lock' your account for x blocks or limit withdrawals to specified accounts. You could think of it as a savings account linked to you regular account. And you'll also be able to lease your balance while it is locked. CIYAM is also working on something like this with Automated Transactions.

yesterday I dreamt about a cool feature: A second password, that you can use to make your account start forge. This password can even be public, as the rewards would always go to that original account. This password would be generated using the passphrase but there is no way to reconstruct the original password using this second password. Advantages: No risk when unlocking the account to forge. Compatible with cold storage No need to pay fees to lease the account Disadvantages: None really, maybe some extra work to implement

Well, then lets pay the min fee in NXT to create those password and store the hash of it in the blockchain.

Ya just sign the public key of the forging keypair with your account key and store that signature + the public key of the forging password in the blockchain. ezpz. it is a little bit of blockchain bloat but really it is very tiny.

Is this a good idea or not?
It would be more user friendly to have "remember secret phrase for this session" checked by default on login so the users won't have to enter the secret phrase sending a message/bid each time. If that isn't secure, maybe there could be a 4 to 6 digit pin number that the user could use instead of entering the whole password again. The app should disable the pin number and require full password after 5 unsuccessful pin numbers are used. So the login screen would look like this: "Remember password during this session" checked by default Under it, a text field that would say "pin number for the session" (only 4 to 6 numbers allowed) Nice Idea, Just keep it up. I will in fact revise this idea Remove "Remember password during this session" totally and just have "pin number for the session" (only 4 to 6 numbers allowed)

I just don't click the check box, and I use lastpass to fill in the password when I do a spend. No muss, no fuss.

This is true, but we are talking about general users, not everyone uses password managers. A pin number for session would be more user friendly and could be just as secure if it's disabled after a few incorrect attempts.
