I think the pump is proportional to the lack of liquidity experienced in the exchanges. Cryptsy run out of XCs earlier, hence the pump to much higher prices without arbitrage - despite the obvious 20% diff.

Money velocity takes a whole new meaning here

It's the same thing. Merchants do instant conversions, or if they don't do it themselves, the transaction company will. They are not in the business of running the volatility risk of cryptos.

Cryptos will take a lot of time to stabilize in prices and be accepted directly (and the merchant keeping them).
