This pertains to Dan's comments above:

Quote
Some info on today's release, just for clarity:

- We will release the "coinjoin killer", with which we finalise XC's privacy tech, on schedule.

- As with all prior releases of new tech, you can expect updates after the release as we get feedback from you all. Testing in the wild is integral to any successful software. If you encounter an issue, let us know.

We were clear on release day that what's happening now is part of the plan. All is on track.

Anyone who thinks that there's some kind of problem has misunderstood how XC is bringing its tech to maturity.

For the record, every big release has been the first time a piece of tech is made public, not the finished product. After the release we fine-tune things. It's as simple as that.

When we launch publicly things will need to work 100%. Before at day, XC is in development, and this is how releases will work.

I've been reading up on XC and it looks solid - I bought my first 200 XC yesterday and today (woohoo!). One thing I haven't been able to figure out: if I accumulate 1000 XC and create an Xmixer, will I lose my ability to stake and only collect Xmixer fees? Or can I both stake and act as an Xmixer?

If I have to choose between running an Xmixer or stake, which do y'all think is more profitable? Thanks XCers (goats Cheesy?)!

at the moment staking is more profitable until the mixers fees are fined tuned...anyway yep you will have to choose one or the other for the moment

That answers my question - thanks!

The goat thing started as a joke and actually still is a joke, but I think because I have been with XC(and my name is Mountaingoat) for a while now and goats are just funny in general people started using them as the official unnoficial mascot of XC.

Here is the post I made about it:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=630547.msg8864030#msg8864030

I am not a part of the XC team btw.

Goats are indeed funny - I fully support the goat logo  Cheesy

i think a goat has no connections to XC at all and wouldn't be a good decision branding wise.

one better animal than a goat would be a cameleon, as it is hard to spot like the private transactions.

That is true, but the only funny thing they have going for them is their wacky eyes.

But we want to create a system that attracts investors and not childs so it doesn't have to be funny imo

+1

Jokes aside. please keep this thread professional
goat and XC image don't go well together.
XC is serious business, not meant to be a joke.

Thx Always on point.. I did not know that there was a close group of testers before the release either.. and I think that seeing the scope of this tek hick ups are to be expected in the beginning.

There is NO OTHER coin that takes privacy to this level, the decentralized trustless solution is far more complex than anything else available today - Your not just mixing with a single xnode, your mixing across an adhoc mesh network of xnodes[both autonodes and real users] at the same time..

So the complexities of the system have brought up some issues, which are being resolved in the next update

Dan

Your doing great work, Dan!!  Smiley

As a software developer myself, I can remotely imagine how difficult this piece of code must be you're working on.
(especially debugging problems, since it has to work for the hole network and sometimes needs testing in 'the wild')

So take your time.  Cool Cool

I deleted an address from my address book and all my addresses disappeared besides the ones that I own and have some XC in them.
It also removed an address that I made but had no XC in it.

I restarted the wallet to see if it was fixed and it was, but I still think this needs to be fixed in a future release.

After further investigation it seemed to be a one time thing, so it must have been me.

I seem to not get more than 8 connections for some reason, how do I fix this?
Can anybody help me?

If your using UNPNP then I believe this is the default setting, you can use -maxconnections=64 via startup  (in your ,.conf file just use maxconnections=64) and configure your router to forward the port to your wallet IP address

Dan

Where can I find my config file? it isn't in my appdata.

By default you, don't need one with XCurrency.  You can create one and just put "maxconnections=64" no quotes

You have to create a config file. It isn't there originally.
Here's a good guide on how to create a config file and what you can put in it.
https://litecoin.info/Litecoin.conf
This guide is for Litecoin, but it works similarly for all other alts that use the QT client.
In the config file, you can specify some standard setting that you want your QT client to use. That's what it's for.
You can create one from notepad and save it as a .conf file (select * all files when saving and save with .conf behind the file name)

According to portcheckers.com, port 32348 is open and my Windows Firewall allows the XC app. Not sure if there is anything else I should be checking....

Sad
If you are on Windows can you try the following command in a cmd box?
netstat -an | find "32348"

It will show all in & out connections your wallet has.
example from my own setup: (192.168.0.49 is my local ip)
TCP    192.168.0.49:32348     178.221.54.98:62146    ESTABLISHED
this is a connection to my wallet from the outside

and this are some outgoing connections to other Xnode/Xmixers
  TCP    192.168.0.49:50000     81.82.165.203:32348    ESTABLISHED
  TCP    192.168.0.49:50079     78.108.54.193:32348    ESTABLISHED

if you see no connections and only a line like this:
  TCP    0.0.0.0:32348          0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING

then you still have a firewall or nat problem

Thanks for the additional check I can do! Unfortunately, I am still unable to send a private transaction (and therefore be a XMixer) even though it seems like port 32348 is working:

After running "netstat -an | find "32348" i get one listening incoming connection:

0.0.0.0:32348          0.0.0.0:0      LISTENING

and 7 established outgoing connections:

192.168.1.8:58755    104.131.208.92:32348      ESTABLISHED
192.168.1.8:58757    101.131.207.232:32348    ESTABLISHED
etc,
etc.

and a

[::]:32348      [::]:0       LISTENING

Anyone have any suggestions on what I'm missing/doing wrong? Thanks!

ps. I'm connecting my laptop to a wireless hub that then goes to my ISP router. My internet connection only shows 1 router in my path to the internet though....

Think your router config is not ok, there should be at least one connection like:
192.168.1.8:32348   <other ip>:<50K port>

edit:
#1: did you tell your router to forward connections on the public port to your local ip-address?
#2: a laptop over wifi can can get a new ip-adress on reboot after some time, maybe disable dhcp and go for a fixed local address

I just ran netstat -an | find "32348" again and it looks like I got some of those:

192.168.1.8:32348     another random IP:54190        ESTABLISHED
192.168.1.8:32348     another random IP:53454        ESTABLISHED

I think it might be something with that wireless hub thing I got, but not sure what....

edit: I've made sure the local IP address in the port forwarding rule on my router page still applies to my laptop.

To be clear: all this cmd is telling you if your wallet is accepting connections incomming from other wallets (eg: your setup is looks ok).
Nothing more. Im way out of my leak trying to explain or assist in debugging about how the XC internals work.

Hey XC community, I'm a big fan of Xcurrency since few months! I would like to come back about the logo story, i agree xc deserves a strong community of solid investors but also some new small investors in need of fun to join XC community. As I believe "small streams make big rivers", it will come a time when there will be some need to expand our community to many more people with small invests.

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/29/1374417362-29.jpg

I'm thinking about all those geeks all over the crypto world. A lot of them aren't able to understand ins and outs about the specifics of the technology developped by Dan the Great. Those people deserves some fun in order to counterfeit the fact they understand nothing, but most of all, we need to get them understand the pros and cons of XC in a pedagogic way, plays and funs are part of it..

http://cover.funimage.org/uploads/1357996708.jpg

My last point, and you see me coming, I really enjoy cameleons! Although they are funny >o_o< or scary OO, they also convey some values similar to XC project : they are highly adaptable just as XC, in process of being adapted, they are looking good  just as XC, in state of being adopted, they cling to branches to secure their position just as XC purposes, their eyes can watch in all directions as XC nodes, and last but not least, they are super green just as the XC logo!

The bottom line, some of anon cryptocurrencies want to look like XC without an ounce of Techs delivered by Dan the Great, so quickly implemented because of his consistency work, they are just fake trying to be like xc the cameleon !;)

I would like to acknowledge the xc team for their work and dedication, I'm here for the long haul in order to touch fingers of God!!

I think this is fantastic - love the whole idea!! Big up-vote from me.
