The downloadable wallet seems like a real pain just to install.

Thanks DGEX - I can always count on you when I need a difficult time.

When I double click run.sh - gedit opens with this :

java -cp fim.jar:lib/*:conf nxt.Nxt

Somehow your desktop has assigned gedit as the default app to execute that file. Try doing it from the command line.

Code:
$ cd /home/USERNAME/fimfolder
$ java -cp fim.jar:lib/*:conf nxt.Nxt

FIM Version 0.2.2 Released

We have released FIM 0.2.2 which consists of some minor fixes related to unclear wording and some bigger improvements to client.

  • Users are notified automatically when a new version is available
  • Users can download the new version from within the client
  • Downloaded versions can be verified to be genuine from within the client
  • Account aliases can be used with both numeric and RS accounts (the ones starting with FIM)
  • Forging countdown indicator and forging refresh functionality added to the client

There was some confusion if the client was forging correctly. We have added a countdown that counts down to the moment you are expected to forge the next block.
This time is an average, it is possible (and will likely happen many times) that when the countdown reaches zero you dont't actually get to forge the block. What is sure is that the chance to forge a block when the countdown has not reached zero is very small.

The so-called deadline (the time until you forge the next block) changes every block. You can refresh the deadline (ask the deadline from the FIM server) by clicking the button next to the count down indictor.

FIM Version 0.2.2 Released

We have released FIM 0.2.2 which consists of some minor fixes related to unclear wording and some bigger improvements to client.
"Your secret phrase will be sent to the FIM server!"
You should rephrase this, because it gives an impression that it will send the passphrase to a remote server. It could cause confusion.

How about: "You have to provide your secret phrase to refresh!"

You'd better use FIM wallet client rather than the web wallet.It's more safe.

What is sure is that the chance to forge a block when the countdown has not reached zero is very small.

If the deadline is not refreshed after every block, and base target gets bigger than since last refresh, then the chance to forge before countdown reaching zero is pretty big.
I could be wrong of course, but clarification would be welcome eather way.

That's what I'm saying. The sentence is confusing for ppl that are using local nodes, not a remote server.

When I tried to update to the new version, I got this error message:

The downloaded version hash does not compare to the specified hash in the blockchain. DO NOT PROCEED.

What do I do now?

EDIT: I ended up extracting and running the client the "old fashioned way" and it works fine now. So now this is an FYI, there was a glitch with the feature where we get to update from within the client itself. Thanks Smiley
