Wow, that was an epic shake off. Congratulations to those who performed it - we definitely got rid of some weak hands. I would do one more shake off like that just to be sure we can move forward.

I agree. Those noobs who sold and are now left behind must feel really stupid.

The unit of work I'm currently on spans 17 trello cards, about 85% of the following is required to have the first release of marking.

fast key-value memory storage, sql memory storage, graph storage, webdav storage flatfile storage
access controlled storage interfaces, multi owner accounts
verifiable chained markings, anti double spend, provable claims, marking verification in blockchain
multi and mixed typed markings with basic data extensions
marking groups of personas and organizations, anonymous reusable personas, existing persona bootstrapping
key storage solutions, ownership transfers, imports, automated sweeping, bulk generation
daemon interface by cli, rpc, third party gateway daemon api, explorer send tx
forwarding api with callbacks like blockchain.info
aggregation of markings by source, destination, context
free text search over markings
summation, grouping, basic analysis of reputation given recieved and flow through graphs
programmable object oriented api in js/node and php
well defined restful content negotiated api over http
streaming update api over websockets, web hooks
command line and text based interface for cli and sms
alias layer and address booking
customizable javascript marking button for addition to any html website content
parsing of html, data- attributes, opengraph, microdata, schema.org
trust layer and identifi integration
account control features, balance management, auto sweeping, fee splitting
authentication adapters for all types of authentication, protocol, and domain
well defined and documented re-implementable interfaces
initial implementation offerings in common languages and SDKs
initial integration offerings as embeds, plugins, browser extension, mobile apps, and addition to common opensource software

The remaining 15% from these 17 short cards, along with the other 200 open trello cards, 15 domains, real world marking, wearable wallets / mark wear, and numerous projects with existing businesses, working groups, software projects, communities, and crypto related projects will progress over the time that follows. No doubt far more work, scope, and relationships will be added as we are already initiating outreach with a host of interesting technology projects.

If you are looking for simple traders cues of commonly repeated work, like 'in 6 days we will release anon', then I am afraid you are looking at the wrong project

Many have become accustomed to development teams holding large ICOs, premines, or notable percentages of the currency. Many are conditioned to expect pump and dumps, for developers to say things or do things only to increase the value of the currency as they hold it. I am sorry but this project is different, the developers such as myself hold a negligible amount of currency. Price tag is little more than an interesting indicative measurement of how a small group of traders and currency buyers currently view out hard work. If it goes up or down we do not benefit or suffer.

Our work in the cryptographic currency area is but one little brick in the wall, we will keep this thread updated as we progress, and as pertinent things are released, for example we'll be updating compatibility to bitcoin 9.3.x a few days after the next patch is released, and when we have a couple of hours free to do this small unit of work.

If you are interested in joining to contribute or discuss, to help us achieve all the things we hope to over the next few months and years, then please do join in. It can be both fun and interesting.

I hope this helps clarify.

Mark

+25₥

I think you nailed it!

Just to note: this is just one of the implementations of marking that is going on, all be it, probably the most sophisticated.

I personally know of at least four others in progress, and at least 3 more teams interested, including one very prominent one.  Anybody is welcome to implement marking on top of the crypto work.  The only proviso is that that each marking implementation should be compatible with each other, by following web best practices, which allows global aggregation of reputation, global trending items and cross chain trading.

Primitive marking prototypes are already working and being tested between our project area (slack), irc, and the web.  It's already possible to extend this functionality to well known sites such as twitter, facebook, google plus, but during this early adoption phase it probably makes more sense to have a robust secure and well tested prototypes than to make the leap to mass adoption.  But nothing stops anyone moving in this direction.  Personally, for me I'm looking at twitter as my next integration target.  Please also note, that the project has not even reached its first quarter.

The nature of marking is that it can go viral in unexpected ways, and it's important that the infrastructure can handle the load if that arises.

Yes, I agree. Baby steps. Marking is something that has to evolve slowly over time. Building a solid foundation is critical to its future success.

question - in this block chain I've observed that block are not being generated at the advertised rate.

There is no such thing as an "advertised rate".

Block: 42105,Target: 69.91 GH/s, Hashrate: 9.81, 9.30, 9.27 GH/s, Performance: 20.41%
Diff: 1953.27040885, next: ~488 (confidence 47%) - Last Retarget: 56.33 hrs ago, change in 375 blocks (~61.25 hrs)

Expect to see blocks on average every 10 minutes for now, until either difficulty changes in 2-3 days, or hashrate increases back up to the target.

is there some mathematical formula that can be used to calculate the expected number of blocks that will be released in to the black chain based on current difficulty and hashrate as of last adjustment and if so - does the original specs for block times weigh into this calculation. I am working on software that needs to calculate the number of blocks that will be introduced into the blocks chain over the the forthcoming 24 hours period.

720*(average-hashrate/target-hashrate)

in the above example 720*(9.81/69.91) = 101 blocks per 24 hours

or:
current block/720=y.xx
y.xx-(y+1)=z
z*720=# (number of blocks until change)
#*block solving time = time until change

Meaning currently:
Code:
Est. Avg. Time per Round (Network) 1085.48 seconds
Next Network Block                 43582    (Current: 43581)

43581/720=60.5291667
60.5291667-61=(-)0.47083333
0.4708333*720=339 blocks until change
339*1085.48=367977.72 seconds (102.2 hours, or 4.26 days)

Bitmark community,

we should get this coin listed in the mobile app called Coin Market App
which is launching on the 29th of this month - check em out  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=792912.20

I think we should collaborate on what links should be listed in this app.. in order to help the community find info without digging through hundreds of hours of threads.

Dev what do you think? Community?  I think this is a smart play, and I am an early investor of Bitmark.

I have emailed Project Bitmark Links to Coin Market App.

thanks - one other question for you.

if I have 10% of the network hash if it reasonable to assume I will get 10% of the blocks (over some time) - regardless of difficulty?

Yes, you'll average 10% of the mined blocks.

Yes, it's a fair assumption.

If during such a period 100 blocks are mined, and you hold 10% of nethash - you are most likely to find ~10 blocks.

The hashrate has now dropped to 5.25 GH/s for the network but the difficulty has not dropped with the hashrate drop.  Why is that?  Is that by design?
