The hashrate has now dropped to 5.25 GH/s for the network but the difficulty has not dropped with the hashrate drop.  Why is that?  Is that by design?

Changes every 720 blocks.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

that's hard to believe...

when I have had problem on lifeforce with a corrupted database that made processing impossible, I printed out a sheet with everyone's balances and then manually sent the coins to their addresses from the pools wallet: they still have your coins in their wallet - can you contact anyone there?

I don't believe they have intended to do anything malicious and I am the one who reached out to Minep.it for them to add BTM. I always liked Minep.it and believe there is more to the issue than we can see. I will be investigating it.

I have been burned many times in the crypto space - but, it is also easy to assume the worst. I agree with Bates - let's not be too quick to assume. Most of these services are run by one, perhaps two, people. Anything can happen - illness, family crisis; life...

For my part, I manually withdrew as soon as confirmed balance became available...

Failure is success waiting to happen...

When I looked at their forum a few days ago many people mining all different types of coins were asking for admin / help with stuck pools but had no reply

Btc collapse.

All alt-coin exchange volume is shrinking these last few days.

I guess the bubble burst finally on cryptocurrency.

Many other altcoins are going up. That does not seem to be the case with Bitmark. We should get on Mintpal.

Why? The price of BTM is based on speculation of future work, and perceived value of work done so far.

The price should and will be based on adoption, it's not a traders token to go up and down arbitrarily - for now the market is open to manipulation by whales and subject to the usual movements. Value will be earned by marking, quite literally, over time.

It would be good to know how much loss has potentially been incurred through minep.it by having print screens of people's balances, but first somewhere to aggregate them that is not the thread. Maybe somebody could do a shared document somewhere and link to it from here?

Personally I am still reserving judgement, the site is still running and no contact has came, perhaps one many is running it and has been in an accident. We do not want to judge to quickly, whilst recognizing that scams are prevalent so it is a possibility.

Let us count the potential loss, and perhaps as a community we can address it later. We can probably also track down the blocks they mined and use the chain to calculate how much as been paid and how much has not, to avoid anybody over claiming.

Hello Bitmark community,

Glad to be onboard with you  Wink ! I'm a Dogecoin and Reddcoin fan and now happy to have come accross Project Bitmark, if memory serves I think it was through a CoinDesk article or other crypto-news site.
I find the projet to be hugely ambitious and love how it goes beyond the social aspect that Reddcoin wants to address.

I went through the github Wiki & read a nice interview I got forwarded on Twitter by the Bitmark account. I still have a lot of questions but I'm confident and hope everything will clarify as the development keeps advancing (respect to the team btw Wink).

I'm currently bootstrapping an apparel company and I thought, heck, it would be amazing to integrate Marking with my articles. Looking forward to learn how this can be done but I can already imagine putting QR codes or NFC chips on some parts of my products Cheesy

Oh and I was wondering why don't you guys hang out on Reddit more often?
Also, I'm seeing that it's something like 20-40% less profitable to be mining BTM now (awaiting the drop in difficulty following the drop in the hashrate!), so I think I'll be bouncing between mining altcoins + converting to BTM and directly mining BTM for a higher hashrate although mine is quiet low. What's your strategy?

Cheers !

Everyone should re-read that quote to themselves 10 times.

The entire ecosystem is in its infancy. Bit coins like Bitmark do not have liquidity yet, and furthermore the liquidity will come from the byproduct of their use. Movements at this point can be quite irrelevant.. The fact it exploded so much within weeks of its release shows the speculators agree with the potential.

Whales
doesnt have to be plural. During major volume shifts in an illiquid market ONE whale can cause major feedback in the graph/price.

count=($(grep -d recurse -Hn "wallet\.dat" / | cut -d":" -f1 | uniq -c |xargs echo | grep -oh -P '(\d+) ')); sum=0; for i in ${count[*]}; do sum=$(($sum+$i)); done; echo $sum; #  soo much crypto?

Why sudden collapse?

Collapse? I see growth:

The market will always move in waves, can't only go straight up (overbought/oversold). The longterm trend is up. Smiley
