on a different note:

Does anyone know how to permanently change the data directory for a wallet? I have launched via cmd prompt with the "-datadir=H:\foldername\silk" option and all is well with new directory but after i restart the wallet the default "roaming/silk" directory is used.

My default C drive is getting full due to 50+ wallet blockchains constantly updating and I would like to move data directory to another disk.

thanks,
john

You can add the same flag to the shortcut for Qt and it will launch with the desired data directory each time. But you have to use that shortcut all the time then.

This will take you to block 1,014,647 - https://github.com/SCDeveloper/Silkcoin-Blockchain-Bootstrap

Or you can wait till I create a new blockchain.dat

Thanks mate, but I'm on 1194525 block
Please don't bother anymore with this, I'm sure CryptoJohn is right: the issue must be on my side since other wallets sync OK
I've plenty of time this week to try all kinds of things
Thanks again for your help

https://github.com/SCDeveloper/Silkcoin-Blockchain-Bootstrap

I have updated the bootstrap to block 1,222,181

I have to split the archive as GitHub allows a maximum file size of just 50MB

Please follow the readme for instructions.

You should also ask the elf to put the link in the first post
It would help the newcommers to get there faster

Only if you are a Windows OS user
I do it by moving the location of the whole Roaming directory to another drive
Since I start mining that folder became ridiculously big(>60Gb) and couldn't afford to keep it on the C drive anymore
Just change the Location in the Roaming folder properties

PS: if you want to upgrade your OS (from 7 to 8 or from 8 to 10) change the location back before or your system will crash

Beautiful solution...I was @ 78Gb so my SSD thanks you Grin.
Never knew you could change folder location in properties...learn something new everyday.

Yesterday I was pissed with the sync speed even after I reinstalled windows
so I tried to sync on a different PC without the protection (I disabled HIPS to see if it syncs faster) but it didn't, sadly I forgot somehow to turn the protection back on......

Bad news

after 3 or 4 hours I noticed one of the external hard drives flashing and spinning like hell
when I looked at the screen I saw the icon disabled for the protection and had a bad feeling
I immediately turned off the PC, restart from USB,.......but the damage was done
35673 files were encrypted (263Gb) by CryptoWall Ransomware
which uses RSA2048 encryption to encrypt personal crucial files like  .txt .jpg .mp4 .....
and leaves you a note that you have to pay:

500$ in the first week or 1000$ after that to get the encryption key sent to you

CryptoWall 4.0 will inject itself into Explorer.exe and disable System Restore, delete all Shadow Volume Copies,
and use bcdedit to turn off Windows Startup Repair.
It will then inject itself into svchost.exe and encrypt the data on all local drives, removable drives, and mapped network drives, basically all drives with a letter!
Once it has completed encrypting your files it will launch the ransom notes that explain what happened and how to purchase the decrypter
and erases itself from the computer.
There is no known method to decrypt the files in feasible time

Luckily after 3 decades of working with computers I learned my lesson and had backups of everything
Restarting with armor on HIPS detected it in an instant and blocked it forever
but imagine loosing all your precious moments from your life, your memories, your work in a blink of an eye
unless you pay your hard earned money

Funny enough for us in the cryptoworld you can only pay in BTC Bitcoins
probably because they are not as easy to track as the true money

So never leave your guard down not even for a second

This is by far the worst nightmare you could have and it could be addressed to the cryptoworld, some even saying that it could come from bitcoin world
so they know you have the means to pay
There are not too many cases yet, it's only a year since this threat is around. I could be the first in Ireland as far as I could see some spread maps

It took a day anyway to restore all the data back, but now I can relax and have a drink
after all what doesn't kill you - makes you stronger

Backup you wallet and personal files because these ones you cannot download from the net, unless you're using cloud services, which I don't trust myself.

Stay safe

I'm asking all the newcomers to please think of tipping/donating our DEV SLievensDRKSLK

I don't want you to read this thread from the beginning but for those of us who saw this ship sinking in June 2014 seeing the light again it's really good. But we're here mostly because of arteleis and SLievensDRKSLK

They spent a whole lot of time in this project and they deserve something back.

I personally donated 35000 SILK to Spencer since I feel he's crazy dev.

Of course most of you here are smelling profit... even if you do then donate as well.

The camel marches on

Many thanks.

Good news is that the code now has all the CTransaction elements split out to mutable transactions and PoS is working. I still need to test Stormnode payments, but I am confident.

Logos for DarkSilk should be with me this evening and from there I can start getting the new thread ready for pre-launch.

I totally agree with what you say. All this would have not happened if Arteleis hadn't take the reigns of this project back in 2014 and somehow "convince" Spencer to join in early this year. They have both put their time and resources into it and I will be forever grateful whatever the outcome is.

I will be donating as much as I can once DRKSLK is up and running. At this point in time, even at 200sat, I'm v far from making any kind of profit but I really don't mind. They do deserve something from all of us (specially old investors) and they will definitely get it from me. Hope others join as well whether is before of after launch. We need to fund this project moving forward and this is the only way. Nothing in live is for free.

Can't wait to see what they have in store for us. My expectations are high and I have the feeling Spencer will not disappoint us.

Thanks again Arteleis and Spencer for all your hard work. The camel marches on!!!

The bootstrap you created worked
Strange that the wallet synced up to the block you created and stopped there
I had to put a conf file in the appdata/silkcoin folder to make it sync from there on
But it's done now
All synced now
Thanks a million
Payment promised sent now doubled

What's the difference between the bootstrap and the blockchain in the appdata directory?

On my main PC I use to reload the image of my system (with acronis true image it takes only 8 min) every week instead of cleaning it
and then copy the Appdata\Silkcoin(saved previously on a different partition) over the one from the image done last year
and it works perfectly every time I sync in about 10 min

So would my Silkcoin folder work on other people's computers to get them up to date?

Or they need to use bootstrap option which I know it's good and faster than starting from scratch but still takes loads of time?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can enlighten me on this matter!
