Opal announces Opal Foundation
For media inquiries contact: support@opal-coin.com
March 4, 2015 – A cryptocurrency renowned for its features that keep users identities anonymous online, Opal announced today that it is launching Opal Foundation.
While Opal is known for its ability to stay private and discreet, in order to gain reputation and trust in the cryptocurrency ecosystem Opal needs both an official face as well as a formal voice.
Besides representing the entirety of Opal, Opal Foundation will allow further growth and development to continue separately from other duties such as marketing and social communication.
The Opal Foundation will start with three board members, whose positions will cover the span of one month. In this month, new board members will be elected via the people. The three initial members all have already made significant contributions to make Opal the cryptocurrency it is today, all whom currently work with Opal.
The three members are:
•   Lisa Cheng – Opal Marketing
•   Whit Jack – Lead Developer
•   Johnny McCallum – PR for Opal
Three members will be selected to oversee the Opal Foundation via colored coins, which are currently being developed in-house by Opal. The colored coins allow for Opal to stay decentralized in their voting process by utilizing the previously mentioned colored coins technology. The members will run three-month terms and afterward new members will be elected.
Opal Foundation will be up and running within the week, and voting for new members will briefly follow.

We will have to organize the foundation, (using our colored coins to vote !)
Let's begin with you ! Opalites early adopters, From new Opal staker to Old beard, we need your advices !
 Feel free to write about how it could be done (Title, Rules, Goal, Funding, Events, Ops... ).

Do you get the runtime error right after starting opalqt? Are you on Win8?

I get the runtime error minutes after opening opal-qt. I am on windows 7.

Hi,

The Visual C ++ runtime serves applications that were compiled to work with a library version.
And 64-bit machines need to install the 32-bit runtime to run applications compiled in 32-bit.
So, it will be a good idea to keep old versions, and even if you have a 64-bit cpu, First of all for Windows users, especially windows 8 users :

The Visual C ++ runtime serves applications that were compiled to work with a library version.
And 64-bit machines need to install the 32-bit runtime to run applications compiled in 32-bit.
So, it will be a good idea to keep old versions, and even if you have a 64-bit cpu, the C++ x86 (32-bit version) should be usefull

These versions must be installed manually:
C++ 2012 (x86 and x64) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679
C++ 2010 (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
C++ 2010 (x64) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632

if you still encounter runtime error after that,

-Close your Opal wallet.
-Go to C:\Users\YourUsername\Appdata\Roaming\Opalcoin
-Save your wallet.dat & your opalcoin.conf files in another folder.
-Delete all the other folders & files located in the Opalcoin Folder except wallet.dat & opalcoin.conf
-Restart your wallet, let it sync, it should be good.

*if you can't see Appdata: click "Organize▼" (upper left) then click "Show Folders and Search Option" click view and Check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives", and then click OK
for Windows 8 From the Control Panel, type Folder Options in the search box: click "Folder Options", click "View" then Check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK

My OS is Windows 7 professional

I downloaded and launched (for 1st time)  the Opal wallet (1.3.1) . All ok and started synching and then the following message appeared

Quote
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Followed by this:

Quote
Opal-Qt.exe has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

My version of Windows 7 includes the following pre-installed:

microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x64 9.0.3
microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable  x86 9.0.2
microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x86 9.0.3
microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable – 10.00
microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable – 10.0

So, as I understand it, the only program I need to add manually is:

C++ 2012 (x86 and x64) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

which comprises 3 files

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/B/16B06F60-3B20-4FF2-B699-5E9B7962F9AE/VSU_4/vcredist_x64.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/B/16B06F60-3B20-4FF2-B699-5E9B7962F9AE/VSU_4/vcredist_x86.exe

and

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/B/16B06F60-3B20-4FF2-B699-5E9B7962F9AE/VSU4/vcredist_arm.exe

The 1st 2 download ok but in respect of the 3rd one (/vcredist_arm.exe) I got the following message:

Quote
vcredist_arm.exe is a not a valid Win32 application

So I can't run it.  Huh

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance  Smiley

I'd like to make a massive apology for the delay on opal drive.  It's not been on time.  We've run into one issue documented here: http://curl.haxx.se/mail/archive-2015-03/0019.html, which should be resolved shortly.

If it's any consolation: Colored coins gui

Hi 4emily,

-Close your Opal wallet.
-Go to C:\Users\YourUsername\Appdata\Roaming\Opalcoin
-Save your wallet.dat file in another folder.
-Delete all the other folders & files located in the Opalcoin Folder.
-Restart your wallet, let it sync
if it sync without your saved wallet.dat,
close your opalcoin-Qt
switch the new created wallet.dat by the one you saved.
restart your opalcoin-Qt.

Thanks Voidlord

I did as you advised and got an Opal coin message stating that

Quote
wallet.dat corrupt, salvage failed

So clicked on the copy I had made of the waller.dat and tried again

This time the wallet opened and started syncing but then I got the same messages as described in my previous post, i.e.

I'm assuming (in the absence of any other info) that the problem somehow relates to the fact that the following file (which is part of C++ 2012 (x86 and x64) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679) can't be run because, despite meeting the system requirements of this file, my Windows 7 service pack 1 OS doesn't see this file as a valid Win 32 application

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/B/16B06F60-3B20-4FF2-B699-5E9B7962F9AE/VSU4/vcredist_arm.exe

I've tried d/loading the file (vcredist_arm.exe) from an alternative m/soft site - same result

If anyone-else has had the same problem with this file and found a solution, please post.

If not, I think maybe I should now just wait until the new wallet version is launched and use that (always assuming of course that the same problem doesn't arise)- in the meantime keeping my modest stash of opal on my bittrex a/c and hope for the best  Smiley

In the meantime thanks again for your help so far.

Hi 4emily,

I just tested a fresh win 7 install, it seems to work like this:

First of all: go to your click Organize (upper left on a file explorer), click "Folder and search options", then:
-Check Show Hidden Folders
-Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
click Apply/Ok

Dl the Opal-Qt, you did
Install the Wallet, and... let it crash
go to C:\Users\Yourname\Appdata\Roaming\Opalcoin
Save your wallet.dat in another folder, erase all the files and folder in Opalcoin,
Then create a new opalcoin.txt with the notepad (or better with notepad++)
copy paste these addnodes in it:
Code:
addnode=46.165.209.144
addnode=54.64.155.117
addnode=79.32.104.81
addnode=192.241.222.102
addnode=173.199.124.185
addnode=65.30.37.95

do not add other argument.
save the file as:
opalcoin.conf
Beware ! when i did that, i saw an:
opalcoin.conf
file but, as i did not uncheck the "Hide Known file extension" the file's real name was:
opalcoin.conf.txt (.txt hidden)
You will be warmed "if you change the file extension, the file should be non-readable" or something like that, ignore it, We need a simple opalcoin.conf
the opalcoin.conf file must change from a white and blue stripes .txt icon, to a white .conf icon.

Once you only have this opalcoin.conf, in C:\Users\Yourname\Appdata\Roaming\opalcoin
Restart your wallet... and tell me Smiley

remember to click "organize", upper left side of the file explorer, then click "Folder and search options", then:

What does colored mean? What is that?

In summary, the Intel Management Engine and its applications are a backdoor with total access to and control over the rest of the PC. The ME is a threat to freedom, security, and privacy, and the libreboot project strongly recommends avoiding it entirely. Since recent versions of it can’t be removed, this means avoiding all recent generations of Intel hardware. details https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme --- https://tehnoetic.com/laptops --- https://store.vikings.net/x200-ryf-certfied
