Friedcat just thru a wrench in the works.. Selling 1.4TH/s rigs for less than 1BTC/TH or 1.064 shipped outside China. That will put a roof on the S4 price, I say 2BTC shipped.

S4 should ship a good deal sooner, and have lower power costs. So I'd guess about 2.5 BTC would be fair.

Everyone seems to assume that Bitmain already has S4s on hand and that they're mining with them now. While that would make business sense in an ideal mining manufacturer's world, I doubt that's actually happening.
Do you remember the S3's where they had to restate the performance because they only got the boards in hand days before shipping? Now, they could have been lying about that, but something tells me that that was accurate. They only got boards delivered at the last minute before assembly. It was a surprise to them that the boards underperformed once they actually tested them. To their credit, they issued the option of a partial refund or coupon.
I realize that none of us have any real visibility into Bitmain's business. But my gut tells me is that they run things very close to the bone. They have no S4s in hand yet. They haven't put thousands of them into service waiting for bitcoin's price to recover. Towards the end of September they will get boards delivered and build out the S4 systems. Hopefully once they test them, the S4 boards actually deliver the estimated performance.
The delay in the S4 sales details probably is not related to the drop in bitcoin price. That part is just bad timing. I think what's going on is just the usual delays that happen with businesses that run with limited resources and small margins. But you can bet they're not sitting on top of a warehouse of S4 units mining the crap out of them. They haven't built them yet.
All that having been said, I'm still interested in the S4s. The S3s turned out better than I expected. If they come up with a decent price for the S4 that makes sense, I'll buy. If not, I'll wait.

The power consumption on friedcat's rigs is S2 specs. 1w/Gh. I'm pretty sure the S4 will be in the .6W/Gh range. I like friedcat and his products but at this time he's 4 months behind bitmain. There's a reason his rigs are cheap.

What make's you think greed is a factor here. They have consistently put out product on time at the best price with great power consumption when compared to the competition they dominate for good reason.
I think the best assumption people have come up with is that no one will buy a $1500 rig when btc is so low. An S4 at 4 BTC would prob not roi at least not in a reasonable time and certainly not what we are used to from bitmain. If bitmain is farming with the equipment more power to them. It's their equipment till it's been paid for.
I would like to see what they have though even if it s priced at $1500. I don't think many people would buy but they can always farm away with the unsold units.
I just don't see greed being a primary factor here.
It is actually quite simple when you put things into perspective and think about them for a moment. Obviously a business does not strive off doing favors and taking losses. Majority of them have business plans too. Bitmain isn't doing anybody a favor bud, there are plenty of companies and plenty of opportunity. The simple fact of the matter is they are a business with a business plan. They sell you hardware at a price which increases their profit margin by great percentages. You pay a lot to buy a miner and they pay very little to make one. Then add in the amount of time they hash on these units to test them. Don't forget to pay attention to the difficulty jumps and bitmain ship dates. If actually delivering a product on time, or even delivering it period is what makes them stand out from other companies, then so be it. I'm not a person who will praise a company for completing their obligation because other companies have scummed out the community in the past. Throughout all this and the last minute pricing and availability of these miners, if you can not understand why greed is a big factor here as well as in mostly any business plan then I am sorry

Guys, I also find myself refreshing the site and this thread 200 times a day, waiting to find the info and maybe put my order through, but being angry due to a small delay in announcing all that is not something I even thought about. Now ... the lack of any update is not good communication practice, but there should be a reason for this.
So give them a bit more time.

Thinking about getting a S4, just not sure about buying BTC directly would be a better idea. What's your take?

It all comes down to pricing. Do the math and see how many BTC will S4 mine in it's lifetime. Consider also the fact that you can not sell it fast whenever you want, unlike BTC Thinking about getting a S4, just not sure about buying BTC directly would be a better idea. What's your take?

Thinking about getting a S4, just not sure about buying BTC directly would be a better idea. What's your take?
FIrst of all, sorry to the ones asking about the good returns I have by mining altcoins instead of BTC directly. There are a lot of altcoins (SHA256) around which are lost for the eyes of the public (thank God!) and they give near steady earnings. I also managed to set up a small private pool and I have 5-10 miners who mine there. As every altcoin can turn to not profitable in a day or so, we got a return of 0,02-0,05BTC/day/1 Antminer S3. So, if oyu are thinking of outside the box and you believe in BTC then think about that. If you buy BTC directly then you will have a FIX amount of BTC. Of course you can lend it to someone at BTCjam or some other site but thats risky. On the other hand if you have a device which capable of CREATING and endless supply of BTC slowly, day by day, then I assume 100% of people would choose that option! So thats why I think that buying a 1-2-3-5 Ths SHA256 Miner is a good investment. And in December when the new 100-300 Mhs Scrypt ASIC miners will come out that will be a glorious day for me! My Scrypt pool will be ready and I will mine the shit out of every good scrypt coin I know!

There's a reason his rigs are cheap. yeah but do the math an asic tube is .85 at 950 watts so 2 are 1.7th at 1900 watts. I had two. my cost was 2 btc 800 usd for 1.7th burning 1900 watts I have lots of psu's so not an issue. my power is 15 cents a kwatt so let us round to 2 kwatts for 1.7th vs 1 kwatt for 2th. or 1 extra k-watt an hour 24 a day that is 15 cents x 24 = 3.60 usd a day. 108 usd a month. at 10 cents it is 72 usd a month . So lets take the s-4 1000 watts for 2 th and price of 1200 usd so buying the tube miner I spend 400 less for 1.7th I saved 400 bucks. IF I have psu's. Even where I live at 108 more a month for at least 2 more like 3 months the tube is better for me. In my case I ordered the pair and did not like the pool choice of cex.io I used mmpool.org a tiny pool I hit 2 fast blocks and I have roi'd with the pair of tube miners. I am .6 btc ahead . And I sold them for 1.2btc so someone else will most likely do roi with them. Buying 10x of them is 7.9 btc for 8.5th sell 8 on ebay for 450 usd each you did your roi for all 10. and have 2 for mining.

BTC value plummeted a lot so its difficult for them to sell at this time. That may be the reason for them to postpone the launch.

I am also curious about the power supply? 1500W? 1600W? Come on Bitmain, you said last week!!! At least give us the details on the power supply.

I would rather have the discount. Now that depends if it is a standard atx gold psu I have no need for them.. I have a house full of plats. there is no way the psu will be a 1500 watt psu. it must be 1200 watts or 1300 watts. this machine needs to do .5 to .6 watts or it is pretty much junk.
