so four s1 upgrade kits = .92BTC and you can get those s1s for about $80 each, used of course, which are consuming about 1400w and be close to 2Th....right? Am i missing something?

S1 upgrade kits aren't available right now. I ordered some a day ago, but looks like they are out of stock. Says "up coming".

SP20 is not for home use unless you have electrical in your shed out back. 65 db is nothing to sneeze at.

I am running 4 - S2's, 6 - S3's , and 3 Tubes and I had planned to sell the S2's on eBay and replace with S4's but screw that.

Canary is putting a GB for the new Prisma tube 1.4 th and I have been very pleased with my current tubes so that is what I going with. Bitmain not that you give a flying F but at this price you lost my business.

@ Spondoolies, what noise db level will the SP20 run at? How 'home friendly' is it on the noise front?
Our estimation is less than 60db

SP20 is specifically designed for home use. That why it is not rack-mountable, does not come with a power supply, and has the slogan "home mining is back" on the product web page.

My take on the Bitmain product line:
S1, S3 - designed for home use (no power supply)
S2, S4 - designed for "datacentre" use (rack-mountable, integrated power supply)

Run a Bitcoin node, support the network.

May be it's better to wait for an upgrade kit for S2?..

SP20, SP35 and S4 are all NOTHING BURGERS .... I don't think they will ROI. Seriously, do the math and save your money.
Most of you have a mistake in your equations. They are based on wrong precondition - you somewhy think that BTC's exchange ratio will be the same as now. Try to imagine it will be 600$ in one month, when the miner will pay for itself in this case?

Trust in BTC, otherwise everithing doesn't make sense...

If I listen to you .  My move is go to coin base buy 4 btc for about 1700.

The use  2.32 btc  to buy a four  s-3s' and hold the rest as coin.

BTW anyone that buys an s-4 and does not do this instead  really is self destructive.

Buying ANY mining gear right now (all the current offers) is giving btc away. Not just S4

Dumbass if you want to speculate on BTC price, do it right and BUY BTC.

The point here is that you WONT mine back BTCs that you spent on the S4

Personal attacks aside, this is the truth:

If the hardware costs more in BTC than you can mine in a reasonable time, don't buy it.

If you think the BTC is going to go up, then buy BTC.

Mixing currency speculation into your ROI calculations is just wishful thinking...

I am curious and anxiously awaiting to see what the S3+ B10 prices at. Our B8 and B9 units are working great.

I think BitMain honestly got a little screwed by the big price drop of Bitcoin, even with the paypal recovery it's not enough. They are in business to make money, which you can't fault them for. Smart business owners look to achieve the highest profit margins based on supply and demand, cost reduction, and other factors.

The fact that they are pricing the unit at 1450 is simply them saying they are more profitable for them to sell slowly, or sell at a lower price down the line, after mining BTC direct with the units in the meantime. You can't fault them for that.

Lastly, and perhaps the most important point to consider:  While I have no way of knowing what their actual profit margins are on these units, I have a feeling it's a fraction of the selling price. Consider their costs both fixed and variable; Fixed: Staff, Research and Development, Overhead (Rent, AC, Insurance, Interest, Technology), and then add the Variable costs:  Production cost per unit, materials, waste, shipping per unit, handling returns and repairs, etc.

So if on a 1450 unit (3.38BTC) their realized profit margin on X units sold at the end of the fiscal year is (Wildly guessing) $400, which is likely a higher number than they actually see, then what they are doing is making the right business move. Keep the unit for just 1 Month and mine .5 BTC and their unit margin for profit is now $612 provided they can still get $1450 point of sale for the unit.

Makes business sense to me. Can't fault them for that.

Strato

Greed is a BAD thinking in any religion in the world, buddy... Grin

So you CAN fault anybody...and any business for been GREEDY...OK... Huh

ZiG

EDIT...: $1450... I am NOT buying this S4..."no way, Jose"... Grin

I will go with SP-Tech SP20 for $1190 ...1.8TH...Later...

I asked was told in a email discounted went to by one with  bitcoins today some one told me a how to buy one i was to late .

they cleaned the site up some and dropped the S4 price so well see .

its a good  thing when every one stands up it does work they could have last a lot on this one and may still once we see what it does and how much.   that's the  really big question  how much.

If anything there prices  should be lower if they follow there own policy.

S3 are NOT currently on sale for 0.58 BTC, and if you want to buy on ebay, it cost ~$330=0.79BTC, so four would cost you 3.16BTC.
BTW 4X330=$1320 and IF you add PSU, it will get close to $1450 and maybe even a few $$ more.
So, where are savings-please don't tell me about coupons because I got none.

@BITMAIN, I'd like to say that this is VERY disappointing, I really had high hopes for the S4. A very bad move in such unfortunate times, it's clearly driving people away to SP and AM, which I am considering myself right now.

Price is back to 0 USD (0 Btc) . i think a fair price would be around 2 BTC and they should price their product in BTC only.

If this was just a test on how the community would react, it was a very bad joke not in favor of Bitmaintech.
