101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does ranking not guarantee post quality? on: June 19, 2023, 04:59:16 PM
I know for sure there will be a lot of comments that blaspheme me. I may be a newbie but I know that a post has value and a good argument. Maybe I haven't read all the threads, so I have to ask about my statement, that many high ranking members have low quality posts? talk nonsense and have no clear arguments. Is my statement correct?
I can’t blaspheme you. You’re actually right and I’m the most on point example.

I think I was a Sr when I was around 2k posts and still only shitposting. I was just writing to fulfill campaign requirements and forgot this is an actually community I’m disrupting by posting BS nobody wanted to hear or read.

I remember this got to a point where the quality posters were making campaigns against signature campaigns. Some were starting campaigns suggesting everyone to push the ignore button for every single user who had ads in their sig. Then there was YoBit and that’s somewhere around the peak of crap Bitcointalk ever ingested. This forum was literally three quarters spammers posting just to touch the minimum campaign requirements. But then things got trimmed down. Yahoo blacklisted me from his campaigns. I was on the SMAS. Nobody wanted me to be part of a campaign because of it. And you know what? Although back then I was PM’ing the shit out of him asking for forgiveness and all, thank you yahoo for not doing it. That woke me up.

Then Bitcointalk introduced the merit system. That’s when things got slowed down so much. There are a handful of users who got airdropped enough merit to be automatically propped up to the  Legendary status but few enough to slow the campaign spammers down. Now there’s still spam and shitposting everywhere around, but it’s nothing compared to back then. We do have some users though who’ve been distributed among the highest ranks without deserving it. The merit system was universally applied though, there was no exception and we have to accept the situation.

On the other hand, there are some users who post high quality stuff only until they reach their goals, whether it’s ranking up or joining their favorite campaign. Spend a few seconds finding out which users have an actual opinion and argument to say and you’ll quickly and easily find out how to read only what’s worth reading on a thread.

I think I said before to Bitcointalk that I’m sorry about my past attitude but that’s not history to erase. It’s more important to embrace positive change and I think most of the shitposters own enough qualities to post more quality stuff if they want to. It’s always worth giving them a chance and at the end of the day, if they don’t want to change now, the circumstances of the future will enforce either a change or critical boredom that will propel them out of the forum.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a glyph for a Satoshi on: June 19, 2023, 04:43:41 PM
I think I’d rather adopt a sat/sats than a s.
Gets me confused. Send me back the 1900s. It’s weird  Cheesy

Or "Bitcoin Sats": BTC$ Cheesy I couldn't find an ascii $ with 2 vertical lines, that would be even better.
You know what Loyce, you may actually be onto something! BTC$ .. kinda looks like BS standing for BullShit.. get it?

Because I know I often have dry jokes nobody gets: B (BTC) stands for bull, S (dollar) stands for shit..

Wow, what the hell is going on? I’ve been on and off crypto for a while but never expected this disappointment to hit me once I’m back. Wasabi turned 180 and said f*ck you to privacy? Doxxing, working with blockchain analysis, WTF is going on

Ironically, I’m pretty sure I still have a Wasabi installed on one of my PCs. Glad I didn’t keep paying them to go through analysis filters lol, this is nuts.

Huh?  How would anyone know what the real name of one of the Samourai devs is in one of the screenshots?
If it’s the screenshot I think @o_e_l_e_o is talking about (and I’m pretty sure it is), it’s quite obvious lol
105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto Passive Income on: June 19, 2023, 01:17:47 PM
Proof of stake coins are the ones that will allow you to earn passively. So, it's like an interest that you'll earn which is called APY that you'll earn a percentage annually.

Exchanges do offer this but there's the risk on it because you are not the one who's holding the key.
Sure, if you wanna call a coin decreasing in value by half every year but giving you 17% APY ”passive income” then go ahead and call it that way, but I’m quite less than 10% of the staking tokens actually overperform their own inflation lol. Then if you take a chart of that token against BTC you’ll see it’s only losing value constantly.

107  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this system not set up for the Bitcointalk forum? on: June 19, 2023, 06:56:20 AM
I think it’s important to leave the settings to the user’s preferred level of privacy and security. There’s good and bad in this, but overall I think the good sides lead.

  • I can create an account using a disposable e-mail address.
  • I can own and use my account from anywhere without having to use or have mandatory 2FA.
  • I can use the typical login page or I can remember and write down the ccode page and use that one to avoid Google’s captchas
  • I don’t need a phone to use the forum. Some countries still have a very negative view on Bitcoin and try to oppress its use and users. How do you enter Bitcointalk then if you’re scared the government might find out?
  • Since you can use disposable e-mail addresses to create a Bitcointalk account (I think you can even create one by introducing a fake address in there) and you can enter even using Tor, should you want to be private you’re given that choice.

And more.

The least third parties you use, the better if you want privacy. If you don’t care, of course you can use your primary e-mail and even set your phone number as the answer to the secret questions too. But the important word here is choice. You get to choose if you want an IP retention limit and nothing’s mandatory, unlike other websites.

If I wanted to have privacy on about any website, I’d have to think how to create an anonymous e-mail address (you can’t even have a disposable one because you’ll need to confirm e-mail address every login), how to get a disposable phone number to register and eventually how to access the website without having my IP registered on there. It’s tough and it only shows how much theymos cares.

I guess now I should argue why it’s the good leading in theymos’s choice of running the forum like this: we’ve all noticed that introducing limits and mandatory settings typically leads to only more restrictions and mandatory settings. By leaving it to our choice, this is avoided. We’re fortunately on a website where user’s opinion and word counts and isn’t rejected and kicked out because the other users have other ideologies and politics. Although it’s Bitcointalk, there have been users before who hate Bitcoin and publicly showed this, but they never got kicked out by the administration. This freedom can only work as long as the mind leading this forum is okay with giving users their freedom of speech and choice.
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A no-Bitcoin friend turned a old Bitcoiner on: June 18, 2023, 09:44:13 PM
Security and privacy 🔏

The person is just trying to play it safe; you both might have been friends for a long time and share things among each other, but that does not mean the person trusts you enough to tell you about their finances or holdings.

Don't take it personal; to some point, there is actually nothing too bad about keeping such a thing from you. Friendship is not all about knowing each other's secrets.
I have a different story and it involves security, privacy but also a lack of interest in telling others about my hobby because they were always surprised to hear about success but never interested in the actual inner workings of Bitcoin. It felt almost like they were judging me for it so why even bother? I just mind my own business and prop myself up while not giving them a single clue. Once I’ll be successful enough and they notice, I’m sure they’ll be interested too - but by then, it’s gonna be too late to join my crew. It’s not their business anyway, most people are afraid of risk and will run away from an opportunity that involves it.
109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC CHANGED MY LIFE - Crypto investor? on: June 18, 2023, 05:05:11 PM
I had a copy of my passport in my phone so with that and do a selfie i created an account on LCB.
So far, this is your biggest mistake I see. I’d advise you to never do this again and try to find out ways to buy BTC without having to deal with personal documents.

Especially because you’ve withdrawn the money in cash. What do you do if next week you’d be asked to prove you haven’t made profit? Or scenario 2: there’s a coup in your country. The new leadership decides Bitcoin users are criminals.
  • I bought using a Bitcoin ATM that requires no personal documents to allow you to purchase.
  • You bought from localbitcoins who now has your name, face and ID.

Which one of us gets caught and punished?

I’m really curious, why did you buy so much USDT? BTC fees are high but if you asked me it’s pointless to hold that much money in a digital currency that is 1:1 with USD. It’s probably easier to just buy physical USD instead. Grin Do you have a reason you have that much money in a crypto that is highly centralized and provides as much as (or less than) ole fiat does?

..
Is there any token for this site?
You literally could’ve had your answers if you clicked that website. Yes, there’s a token and yes, it’s a post to earn platform. It took you longer to write your post than it would’ve taken you to click the link and read lol  Roll Eyes

112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin(decentralization) the end for utopia? on: June 18, 2023, 01:59:29 PM
Currently people are worried of AI will replace few or many human jobs, the future speculation robots might replace human, but still it's not the final form of humanity.
I think Bitcoin is more future-proof than AI. AI is just a hype right now and when people’ll find out it’s not that useful except in a few domains, they’ll be hugely disappointed by what it can do. We’re very far away from a final form of society and I don’t think we’ll get anywhere close to it in the next few centuries (in fact, we may actually end up destroying ourselves and the planet by then lol). This utopia OP is talking about.. we’ll probably never get to experience it. History plays its role very well here, just check out what happened in the past when they tried experimenting with utopic societies. It didn’t go well, every single time. Cheesy

114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Smart Way to Introduce Bitcoin to Relatives, Spouse or Family on: June 18, 2023, 10:01:31 AM
This happen when the person you are teaching is not interested. If the person you are teaching is interested to learn about Bitcoin then I don't think they wouldn't stop listening although you are right that if they are not interested they will most likely do that. I experienced it myself where I am introducing cryptocurrency to my sister and yet she only listen to me for a while before she stop listening to what I was teaching her.
I don’t know, man, from my personal experience it’s not like that. I’ve been trying to tell people how important BTC is for years and it’s a difficult task. They think it’s funny when you’re talking about how Bitcoin can (and will) change the world as we know it. But maybe I’m just hanging around the wrong people, it’s very possible.

Unless it provides a real, strong and immediate advantage to them, people’ll just see it as a boring thing. Tell them you made a million in a week and they’ll be deeply focused on you. Tell them you know about a currency that gives us back our power and they’ll lose interest and focus on the discussion unless they’re very interested in politics and the changing world. And no, I’m not talking about those people who try to desperately seek attention by pretending to support/disagree with action against climate change or other trending subjects. I mean interested for real.

117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin(decentralization) the end for utopia? on: June 17, 2023, 11:55:48 PM
I think we need more than just BTC to try out an utopic scenario for society. BTC is only a part of it, it’s just finance. And the community is quite split for now, there are people who want to be independent and people who prefer relying on a third party for help.

But I personally think this comes from a much deeper cause. We haven’t been taught how to be independent in schools. Instead, we’ve been taught we need banks and a corporate job if we want a good life. So before we attempt an utopic scenario, I think we first need to sort that out and educate the young that independent is better because you have more control.

Until we do this, it’s gonna be hard to convince everyone (or at least the majority) that it’s better to be your own boss. It’s probably because it’s more comfortable too and the much quicker option of the two with the fastest results, both positive and negative. We’re still far away from a change of poles imo.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shouts - The best possible Twitter alternative? on: June 17, 2023, 09:15:07 PM
I think a social network that pays you to post is quite a bad idea and attracts spam and very unnecessary posts. There’s already a lot of people trying to make themselves famous online - imagine you told them they could monetize their Twitter posts lol..

Anyway, didn’t we have a lot of attempts at creating such a network in the past? One of them being Faketoshi’s? I honestly think there isn’t much potential there tbh.

Easier said than done. I wish it was this easy, but it’s not..

Raise your hands in the air if almost every time you tried to explain BTC/crypto to someone you couldn’t even get into the subject because they stop listening almost immediately? The toughest part of the discussion is not having them lose interest before you even get to your point Cheesy
