1061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DTC] Datacoin - Brainstorming Giveaway - Get coins for sharing ideas! on: November 20, 2013, 10:07:49 AM
For larger data files, rather than increasing the size limit per block, have some sort of protocol that would allow 128kb divisions of the file to be made and spread over the blockchain that way. Of course something would need to be done to clearly order and connect those blocks of data. One could for example make several 128kb RAR divisions, but something at least needs to be implemented to connect the blocks.

Yes, something like Datacoin Archiver  Smiley

@slimbo: interesting..
1062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DTC] Datacoin - Brainstorming Giiveaway - Get coins for sharing ideas! on: November 20, 2013, 08:00:36 AM
Sent coins to all in this thread so far! Keep those cool ideas coming!

Feel free to leave more ideas for extra bonus Wink or enter the contest for logo design that maxsolnc is running at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=338986.msg

Loving the twitter-style application. Sounds really perfect given the limited storage space for each transaction. I assume it would be readable directly in the blockchain as well as the website. Therefore I don't see the website as necessary though a nice option. Things like friends/follow list could be stored and managed locally by the client and the blockchain would contain only addresses and messages. Could be a "killer app" Smiley

Yes, that's great idea for making coin more popular. In future, if DTC gains value, this site can be also something like advertisement platform. Those who want advertisement should pay in DTC not only for sending their info to blockchain (fee), but also for showing this info on site.

anyway, if pulse develops such app, I'll donate several hundreds DTC to him Smiley

Personally, I think 1 DC per 1KB would make the mining more valuable.  I also think it would be interesting if there was a way to charge for retrieving files from the blockchains. Not sure how that would work though.

Hopefully DTC will gain good value in BTC\USD\etc, so fully loaded block (50+ DTC as I remember) will give good profit to miner.
1064  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (just launched) on: November 20, 2013, 06:37:10 AM
how many DTC exist right now? anyone know?

There exists ~450K DTC right now. It should be only near 20K DTC per day created when difficulty and network primes\sec balance. Now network is stabilizing, difficulty adjusting
1065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (just launched) on: November 20, 2013, 06:18:44 AM
You can buy a 1 TB disk for about 1BTC or less.  So 1 kb costs about 1/1000 000 000 BTC = 0.05 DTC (hard-coded)

So 1 DTC should equal about 20/1000 000 000 BTC = 0.00000002BTC

lol, remember that it is not simply local storage, it is backed up on couple of computers Smiley remember how much does it cost to get 1TB storage on VPS, for example. And hosting provider can shut down VPS or delete info from disk - no such way for datacoin
1066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GIVEAWAY! [DTC] Datacoin (200 to give away!) on: November 19, 2013, 09:49:00 PM
Blockchains will lead a storage problem for users after months. You can develop a server base lightweight client (for e.g an Electrum-fork). Users of this client will pay a monthly btc fee  (like donations for serverside data storage)

Also makes sense, but what will developer say?  Wink

Just curious, since its only cpu, whats everyones primes per second?

i5 3570  ~ 1700 pps

Is there any pool for mining DTC?

Not that XPM pools are all that spectacular, but I'm rather surprised considering it's an XPM fork, that we haven't seen any.

There's still no adopted miner except datacoin-hp built-in one, so no matter for pool. Only just now  Wink

Did anybody use senddata so far?
Show me your TxIds (for retrieving the data) please!

just double-checked that, all works! But remember that you need original datacoin source, not datacoin-hp!

A Twitter like website that watches the blockchain for messages and displays them on the website.

You register a Datacoin address and prove you own it by submitting a micro transaction to the website address.

From that point on any transaction you submit will not only be stored on the blockchain, but also displayed on the website.

"why would people pay a micro transaction when they can just use twitter?" you might ask.
Theres no guarantee that twitter will last forever.

The site would be funded by the micro transactions and advertising. Does anyone think this a good enough idea to start developing?

DMutjbvzZEvEM79JVgyCzzPS3LMukPtCwu

Hmm, interesting idea, but who will visit this site? Can you explain this?
And yes, coins sent to you!

Lets call it Twidder (dd for datacoin)

the site would be for anyone who might use twitter today, but also for someone who wants more anonymity. The security that only they can submit Twidders, since it requires access to your datacoin address it uses the same security that your wallet has. Similarly to twitter, it can be used anywhere in the globe. and you can submit anything that can fit into 128Kb.

edit: and unlike twitter it cannot be censored (twitter has been known to remove tweets that governments have asked of them).

Makes sense. The only thing confusing me is that some unwilling content could be displayed on such site. It is 'invisible' in blockchain, but can be visible on the site.

Maybe you're using datacoin-hp, it doesn't have such method. Use datacoin instead (links in OP)

Nothing better than uploading the D. Wink

I think we should definitely wait for a couple days worth of submissions though; really like a couple so far but I'd reserve judgment until we get a few more.

Agree with you, no need to hurry with that

Interesting concepts presented here! I increase reward to 250 (and 150 from MessyCoin if he doesn't win Smiley )
In addition all others who gave interesting logos will get some coins

Is there anyone who knows Chinese? I think we should make a promotion in Chinese section. They're worried about Internet censorship, so this coin can be interesting for them.
1075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Alt-Coin to Start Investing Into? on: November 19, 2013, 03:18:20 PM
Thanks. I've been away from *coins for a long time. Trying to get updated on what's going on
Datacoin seems innovative. Any other innovations? I was away since around PRimecoin came out

It seems to me that no innovative after Primecoin (except Datacoin  Smiley ). Curecoin still in development. There are other coins with new algos, but no one for using hashpower or blockchain for something except coins.

What's your take on the BitShares one?

Ah, sorry, I forgot about 3rd side of innovations - not only "algo", "engineering", but also "financial", so yes, BitShares are like financial innovations.

Datacoin is a new concept coin which can give him long life and good support. If developers start using it as decentralized storage, it will be very popular.

Can you link me to Datacoin's main thread or webpage?
here it is:

sorry, posted invalid link first time

I'm no designer but here is a simple logo. If acceptable it can be used as a placeholder until something better comes along. Free to use as a logo for Datacoin client or services.

DKMdRfJ1hch8gMioSvx19uuGrQUDTWckA6 if it's worth tipping Wink

Hopefully someone will do better!

yeah quite nice but how about something like a suitcase where the handle is the curve of the D  indicating storage etc  ?

Yeah, looks good - these 6 connected circles describe idea of the coin.
1079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GIVEAWAY! [DTC] Datacoin (200 to give away!) on: November 19, 2013, 11:55:51 AM
@Snail2 : I think it's possible, good idea!
@Findus : we need to clarify that when developer is online, it will be very good, but I don't know if it could be implemented with current blockchain.

And yes, sent some coins to you!
