Below is a chart displaying historical volatility. It shows that typically, higher volatility goes hand in hand with higher bitcoin prices

is bitcoin a day traders dream come true?

It's probably even better as a weekly / monthly trader. If you pick the multiweek / -month lows and highs (i.e. the one in April 2011 at 0.58$, then 31.89 $ in June 2011, then the low in Nov 2011 at 1.994 $, then you can be a happy camper

I posted a chart showing real historical bitcoin volatility here:

There is a huge risk for Starbucks to experience price deflation. Soon people will return to home-brewed coffee which only costs pennies, or, if they go out, they do not want to pay more than a dollar or so

After drinking tim hortons / star bucks / whatever coffee for years,  I finally decided to replace my $20 coffee maker (that I didn't use because it sucked) with a $100 model.  Now my coffee is awesome, I never go out for coffee anymore..  Though I live pretty good and could afford starbucks / whatever anyways, the coffee is so good at home and so much cheaper that it's a no brainer.   I was easily spending $100+ a month on coffee between me and my gf..  So how many times has that coffee maker paid off now that i've had it for a few months.. heh.

I am pretty sure I am not the only one coming to that realization.. and especially for people directly affected by the economic situation have / will drop starbucks like a bad habit..  Even if they are not directly affected..  makes no sense to pay $5 for a coffee.. or even $2 or $3..

Where was I going with this agian...  oh yeah.. short starbucks Tongue

SBUX (Starbucks) about to break down .. will get nasty

I am currently at my local Starbucks enjoying a cup of coffee and completing my post on dollar cost averaging as a method of Bitcoin acquisition. By the way great work on your service. As for shorting SBUX vs buying more BTC, I will take the BTC. I do like their coffee.

Thanks for great feedback. I am always trying to make the best possible forecasts.

On Starbucks, I also like the company, the CEO is outstanding, and the products are great.
I just see that the worldwide trend is going down. Look at coffee prices, they have crashed and will crash more, which is a good indicator that coffee demand is going (will be going) down.

haven't drunken one coffee for over a year...for the prize of an starbucks coffee i can eat a whole lunch...

you hit the nail on the head.

I've been to italy recently: espresso: €1, cappuchino: €2. sounds about right to me.

prices in the US, Switzerland, etc. need to deflate as well, and I am sure if Italy remains in the Eurozone you will get espressos for less than 30 cent soon.

1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: #bitcoin IRC log: A pirate leads a flock of sheep over a cliff. on: July 17, 2012, 07:22:24 PM
Here's a graph of the action with some of the pirateat40 comments from the IRC log correlated approximately.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2ngzj47.png

If what pirate was saying is true, he's feeding a stronger bull.

exactly, IMO pirateat40 is stuck in an impossible situation

idk I'm most likely wrong, but what he did yesterday shows us his game plan and we see that its not a good plan

+1

The market is already to big for him to control it.

Sure. I can't complain. Smiley
In principle you would need to ask the subscribing customers.

Pirate is too small of a fish to control and direct the bitcoin market over the long run. He can try short term but longterm fail - as he has even already admitted.
1097  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: July 17, 2012, 03:29:18 PM
Gold down, Bitcoin UP.

With silver looking to break down out of its little July triangle... this is going to be more and more true
yeah i hope silver breaks down so i can buy cheap and than high inflation begins muahaha!

First, we have deflation for quite a while before inflation kicks in. As per our subscription forecast, silver will drop Mich deeper and longer than most people expect here. You can subscribe for just 1.99 btc before July 28.

1100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Personal contribution of 5,000 BTC to affected Bitcoinica customers on: July 15, 2012, 05:14:36 PM
is the claim page still open?
I am still missing about 5000 USD from bitcoinica and would like to join the paybacks  Smiley
The 5000 BTC has gone out, see the past posts.

Thanks for updating me.

I have to admit that I find it a bit unfair that this is closed already. I was travelling the past days and did not read this thread. I just found it today and now the funds are gone...
