1181  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin mining at home on: February 24, 2023, 10:23:39 PM
It just seems to me like mining of Bitcoin isn't that real. I have never seen anyone who says that he/she has successfully mined a Bitcoin. Maybe I must be mistaken.. I just need some insights, please.

This is probably because mining is being done on a large scale - big companies running hundreds of miners. Otherwise it's not profitable. You can forget CPU mining, usb mining, browser mining, cloud mining, probably solo mining at all. So it's hard to meet an individual who could tell you that he's running a successful solo mining operation.  Cool
1182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How somebody can prove that my wallet belong to him? on: February 24, 2023, 08:52:43 PM
What if i catched some mot****er, who is using one of my wallets - how can i prove that it's mine?  Angry Angry

Most probably by the time you'll realize somebody is using your wallet, your funds will be gone. So you won't have to prove anything.  Cool

A person who knows the private key or wallet.dat + password owns the coins. There is no other way if the wallet is non-custodial.
1183  Economy / Gambling / Re: NAKAMOTO ROULETTE launched today on: February 24, 2023, 08:46:18 PM
Hi All,

We just launched our new Bitcoin/Lightning LIVE Roulette Site - www.NakamotoRoulette.com

Would appreciate feedback and comments or anything else the community has to say Smiley

-- Nakamoto Roulette

I somehow don't get the idea behind these live streams on your website? Live streams from real casinos? Is it something similar to Evolution streams? How do you place a bet?

I can see in the domain whois the owner is located in Malta? Are you registered with Malta Gaming Authority?
1184  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Defi protocol free from the government on: February 24, 2023, 08:17:55 PM
Let's talk about decentralized finance DeFi, is there any way possible that the government can regulate DeFi protocol? I see that it's easier to go after Centralised exchanges than decentralized projects, do you think there is a way to make defi projects betray decentralization because of the wrath of the government? Drop your thoughts.

If we speak about theory, then yes: I believe it's possible to ban/regulate etc DeFi simply by criminalizing any participation in it. However, in real life it's easier said than done. A country has to have a huge and very advanced cyberpolice force in order to track down every (or most) DeFi user. It's not very realistic and unsustainable.

i not a coder or developer so asking this , what is meaning of export crypto sig
http://www.cypherspace.org/adam/rsa/

It's a throwback to the "old days" (1990s) where the USA had a bunch of export restrictions on cryptographic algorithms and programs and suchlike as they were classified as "munitions". The idea was to create the smallest working version of the RSA algorithm that could be included in an email signature (or a signature on a Usenet newsgroup post etc) so it could be shared publicly with everyone.

People had T-Shirts printed with the text... and it looks like someone actually had it tattooed on their arm:

(not to mention that this doesn't even look like valid Perl).
Perl is great like that Tongue

Wow, thanks for clarifying, I could have never imagined something like this was possible and actually happened. I didn't know RSA algo was banned or under export restrictions in the 1990ies in the US.  Shocked
1186  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 23, 2023, 09:07:09 PM
I'm quite skeptical regarding this "You'll own nothing, and you'll be happy" lifestyle. For many needs car-sharing is not very convenient and is too expensive. As to the energy, I'm sure you know we're still burning coal and natural gas to produce it. We already have electricity shortage in many regions. Building more charging stations and selling more EVs will make things much worse.

Similarly, with services and energy - if carsharing was not convenient, it would not be on the market. But the topic is objectively convenient. Renting a car, especially with such a service, is mega-convenient. Personally enjoyed! Here is an example - we flew with friends to rest, oh. Tenerife. We all have our own cars at home. We were going to travel around the island, to see it. On foot, it’s difficult, scooters are not suitable, friends have small children. We just took and rented the necessary cars - they themselves are tailored to small children, my wife and I are comfortable in a more compact car. The right class, the right size, with the right options (child seats for friends, a convertible for my family). Or did you have to bring your own car? I'm not ready for such an act Smiley
And in the mentality of many people there is already a paradigm shift from "ownership" to "dynamic satisfaction of needs."

Energy - I also agree that not everything is good everywhere. But it is necessary and it will be changed! I hope we will find the time when electricity becomes simple, affordable and ubiquitous, for all inhabitants of the earth

I guess classic car rent would be more suitable for the trip you described - you don't have to pay for minutes and kilometers, don't have to waste time on chasing car-sharing cars all around the unfamiliar neighborhood. You can forget something in the car easily as you have to take your stuff with you every time, you can't leave it in the car because you have to swap cars and the next driver may take it.

1188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there age limits to Bitcoin investment? on: February 23, 2023, 08:12:18 PM
I was actually wondering if there are any restrictions on age as to investing in Bitcoin?
I read threads where people have constantly introduced Bitcoin to their underaged children (10years below) and I really don't think it's necessary because I feel those kids still have some mental growth  to do and since Bitcoin is a very volatile digital asset, I think children shouldn't be made to go through such stress.
Same thing also applies to the elderly as I've also read news of people trying to get some retirees investing their pensions into crypto rather than advising them to relax and enjoy their pension and I really wanted to know if it's wise to get kids and elderly into the crypto industry.

I really don't think there should be any limitations. Bitcoin is for everyone, it doesn't care how old are you, what color is your skin, sexual preferences, social status, religion etc etc etc FIAT world is full of limitations, penalties, fees - people are sick and tired of it. Every time someone mentions introducing any limits in Bitcoin world, it reminds me of that Bitcoin CEO meme...  Roll Eyes
1189  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: February 23, 2023, 06:31:00 PM
This is a natural step in the current situation.  Cold War between the Western world and Russia.

However, this does not mean that Russia will use nuclear weapons.  The use of even tactical nuclear weapons is an absolutely insane move.  Nuclear weapons were not originally intended for its use in military conflicts.  It is exclusively a tool to deter a potential adversary from aggressive actions.

The use of nuclear weapons by Russia will cause a very negative reaction from China and India.

I'm not talking about the USA, Great Britain and other countries of the Western world....

Therefore, I perceive it solely as a tool for escalating tension.

I don't think that there is a big possibility of Russia using tactical nukes in Ukraine. Even in frontline cities such as Bakhmut and Vuhledar, there are still thousands of civilians trapped in the basements and bomb shelters. A majority of them are ethnic Russians and in case Russia uses tactical nukes, then these people will be destroyed. And the other option for Russia will be to use tactical nukes on cities that are mostly inhabited by ethnic Ukrainians, such as Lviv and Ternopil. But this will result in retaliatory strikes by NATO.

As such there are no "tactical" nukes. Nukes are nukes no matter what they are called. Even the best tactical nuclear weapon will result in the deaths of thousands of civilians, along with the military manpower and equipment. There is no magical nuclear weapon that will only kill the soldiers. And at this point, I don't think that Putin is lunatic enough to commit such a mistake, which would result in his strongest allies deserting him.

I agree that there is no point in using nukes in Ukraine. There will be lots of civilian casualties but the military effect would be questionable.

Quote from: Sithara007
But this will result in retaliatory strikes by NATO.

I don't think Putin is particularly afraid of this. The only NATO country capable of effective nuke strike on Russia is the US. And if they'll do it, Russia will launch their long-range nukes immediately turning Washington, London and many other big cities into ashes. This will be the end of the world as we know it or maybe even the ultimate apocalypse.

Quote from: Sithara007
which would result in his strongest allies deserting him.

But who are Russia's allies? Belarus is a sockpuppet, North Korea is a communist rebel state. These countries have nothing to lose and they will support any Russia's move. China and India are not allies but business partners at best.
1190  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 22, 2023, 09:57:54 PM
Doha is where the action continues, most of the big names are there, Medvedev,
Zverev, Murray, Griekspoor, Felix AA.

I'm not sure Murray is going to get past Zverev, it will be a battle royale I think.

I also assume that. It will be a close match. I think Murray will try to play long rallies. Then it will be more difficult for Zverev. His physical fitness is not perfect yet and neither is his confidence in himself. With long rallies, Murray can provoke more mistakes from Zverev.

Bautista had played against Fucsovics yesterday. Bautista won but had difficulties and needed 3 sets.

Well, he got the job done, won the first set tie break, got beaten in the second set
6-2 and broke Zverev in the third to win that 5-7.

I only caught the last set, IDK I get really frustrated by watching Murray, he can
be so negative and lets his emotions out winning or losing, I know thats the
way he manages but I find it so frustrating/annoying.

Anyway he is through to the last 8, and there is still some serious players to potentially
get past, Rublev, Felix AA, Medvedev and Davidovich Fokina, all seeded players.

Murray beating Zverev is either a very good performance by Murray or a very bad performance by Zverev. I didn't watch the game, but with all issues Murray now had down the road and also his age, how can Zverev lose against him when he otherwise is trying to become a number 1 in the world? This is not against Murray and I respect him a lot and all his achievements, but I think that Zverev is just not as strong as the media was hyping him a couple of years ago. Since he is German, Tthey said he is going to be the next Boris Becker. He is so far away from winning a Grand Slam. He is 25 I know, but now there is Alcaraz and a couple of other talents that I think are already stronger than him.

Many underestimate Murray, saying he's old and all those health issues etc but I somehow wasn't surprised he defeated Sascha. Zverev was out for a year with injury and he's not on top of his form now (same thing happened to Thiem - out for a longer time and can't get back in top 10).

P.S. I also didn't watch this match but I did watch Murray v Berrettini at AO and it was a tremendous performance by the Brit.
1191  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solarpanel on: February 21, 2023, 09:08:58 PM
What could be a a good solar panel for a mining rig of ca. 2000 watt?

Are you planning to run it 100% off solar during daytime and then shut down at night? On-grid or off-grid? Some kind of hybrid system using solar as main power source and drawing the remaining power from grid or with automatic transfer switch grid -> solar and back? Please elaborate.

P.S. Latest solar panels are 600-650w I guess.
1192  Economy / Economics / Re: does bitcoin help in your economy? on: February 21, 2023, 07:34:09 PM
there are many people investing in bitcoin, some are profitable and some are losing. and I believe bitcoin has a big advantage. The question is whether when you benefit from bitcoin, you can help your economy and your family?

Well, you can't lose if you HODL. You only lose if you buy high and sell low. Buy and hodl and you'll be fine. Impossible to lose. The longer you hodl the more profitable you're going to be. And then you could (and should) help your family (if they need your help) why not?  Cool

According to the following image, is it the Pennant?

Thank you.

Following all these pennants and similar BS... sure way to lose your hard-earned coins. It just doesn't work. All these flags, pennants, crosses etc is pure gambling: 50% chance at best. I can only tell you one thing: there's huge constant upwards pressure right now. We have reached $25k and I can feel no signs of stopping. My bet is we're heading into the $28-30k area.  Cool

WTA tournament in Dubai. Ladies to watch out for: Rybakina, Sabalenka, Pegula, Ostapenko and of course Swiatek! If Swiatek could keep the momentum she gained during Doha tournament, this will be an easy win for her! Plus she only played 3 matches in Doha (1st round bye, 1/4 final opponent withdrawn) and only 26 games (6:0,6:1,6:0,6:1)? in total so she must have decent form.  Roll Eyes
1195  Economy / Economics / Re: The Rise of GPT AI. Crypto is at risk? on: February 20, 2023, 09:31:01 PM
Over the recent years, technology has improved leaps and bounds, and one notable development is the rise of GPT AI, an artificial intelligence that allows machine to interact with humans in a more natural and conversational way. We cannot ignore the fact that it lessens the amount of work needed in some areas in our economy and society, thanks to the advancements of machine learning, natural language processing and deep learning, as a result GPT AI has become a powerful tool for businesses. Although we could say it gives us benefit, we can't still be so sure with the risks involved that maybe can outweighed or may potentially ruin the economy.

"GPT AI has also been used to develop trading bots that can automatically execute trades based on pre-programmed rules and conditions. These bots can monitor the market 24/7 and make trades based on real-time data, which can lead to more profitable trades and reduced risk."

Based on that statement alone, we can conclude that there will be potential risks such as trading bots that could manipulate the market which could lead to significant losses.

How about you, what are your thoughts regarding this one?

There is zero risk for Bitcoin from using AI trading bots. But it can be really bad for the people using them:
1) AI is prone to mistakes. A bug can make it do something stupid which can lead to you losing your funds.
2) AI can be mislead by other trading bots, it can create fake trends etc which can be abused by human traders
3) AI can be hijacked by a hacker and you never know what an army or zombie bots can do.
etc etc etc

But as a result, AI users not crypto will be the victims of this behavior.  Cool

P.S. And yes, using ChatGPT mentioned by many in this thread is a particularly horrible idea. ChatGPT is a chat bot, not a trading bot. Using it for trading is the shortest way to getting rekt.
1196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 19, 2023, 09:14:13 PM
Well, this certainly aged well:  Grin

Quote from: serveria.com
My bet would be on Medvedev. He has recovered after a series of bitter losses and is now stronger and hungrier than before (just like Swiatek in WTA now). He also has more big tournament and final experience than Jannik.  Cool

Anyway, it was an interesting, very intense match. Sinner deserved to win, he was very close.

I wouldnt say Sinner was unstable, he was actually quite stable in his mentality as was
Medvedev actually.

The match for me was actually closer than the second and third sets suggest, Sinner
in the end had far too many unforced errors which I am putting down to the long rallies,
medvedev is comfortable enough hitting baseline exchanges, sinner was too but
they took their toll on him in the end.

Great match all the same, I didnt bet on either.

I think Sinner just ran out of gas in the 3rd. Too many close calls right outside the line. He needs to work on his fitness. 1st set both played at crazy pace but Medvedev turned out to have more stamina.

1197  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 19, 2023, 06:31:27 PM
There is nothing fantastic about this idea. In Norway, for example, now 4 out of 5 cars sold are electric cars. And from 2025 they plan to completely stop selling private cars with internal combustion engines.
~snip~

Countries like Norway or Sweden are exceptions if we consider other parts of Europe, because they have long since overcome some basic obstacles and due to their natural resources and high standard of living, they can afford to reach some goals much earlier than everyone else. Some data say that in Denmark even 70% of people use bicycles or public transport, and they are not even interested in the state's generous incentives when it comes to buying electric vehicles.

Another important point that we may not have mentioned is that the ban on production vehicles with internal combustion does not mean that everyone will suddenly switch to electric vehicles or some other alternative - all those who own old vehicles should continue to use them as long as they want to - or until the government decided to close all gas stations.

You have noticed a very subtle nuance! Indeed, in these countries, approaches to life, the concept of values is very different from the classical behavior of people living for the sake of "accumulation" and visible wealth. Therefore, the value of the car in these countries has decreased. Many people refuse to become a full-fledged owner due to the lack of a constant need. A lot of people use car-sharing and other convenient services that do not burden wallets. Of course, there will be a layer for which a car is an opportunity to show "its advantages" and "its status".

But I think that in today's situation, Russia has staged an oil and gas terror in Europe, will only accelerate the process of Europeans switching to cars that are less dependent on "fuel for the implementation of political complexes and grievances." Whatever one may say, oil will rise in price in the future - its reserves are not unlimited, and the development of new fields is becoming more and more difficult and expensive. Therefore, the transition to at least hybrids and then to full-fledged electric cars is already in the near future. Yes, with the exception of economically and technologically backward countries with underdeveloped economies, where buying and owning an electric car will be very expensive and difficult

1198  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 19, 2023, 09:23:15 AM
Many governments are moving to push hard to reduce sales of diesel and petrol cars, the European Parliament has officially approved a law banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in the EU from 2035

Quote
The landmark law will require carmakers to cut down CO2 emissions by 100 percent.
The 100 percent cut in CO2 emissions from new cars sold would make it impossible to sell petrol or diesel-powered cars in the 27-country bloc. The law that comes into effect in phases that will require a 55 percent cut in CO2 emissions for new cars starting 2030, which is a much higher target in comparison to the current 37.5 percent.

Source ---> https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/auto/electric-cars/no-petrol/diesel-car-sales-by-2035-european-parliament-approves-ban/articleshow/97939363.cms

Some reports indicate that the costs of running an electric car are actually lower than the costs of running a car with an internal combustion engine.
So, will this goal be achieved by the year 2035? Will the cars be more efficient and at a good price compared to current prices, or is it a policy that may take decades?

Please pay attention, the EU law bans the sale of new petrol and diesel cars not the use of existing cars (also no mentions of import?). So, theoretically,  you could buy a new car on December 31, 2034 and drive it for another 5-10years. So, there's a chance we'll see 70-80% EV share in EU in some 20-30 years most probably. Will the sale of petrol cars stop in 2035? Most probably yes. Will petrol cars disappear from roads by 2035? Definitely no.

And to answer your other question: yes, I think electric cars will become more efficient and cheap than now.  Cool
1199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin be trusted? on: February 18, 2023, 09:21:26 AM
Bitcoin have suffered 2 huge crashes at 2018 and 2021, it's really wrong if you're saying Bitcoin will never crash, I believe we will suffer another crash in the future. Bitcoin could crash, but the point is Bitcoin can survive and recover from the crashes, not like majority of shitcoins were it will become dead coins due to no demand.

Introducing someone about a subject where you're not completely understand is really a big mistake.

Actually, you forgot 2013/14 and the notorious MtGox crash. Bitcoin is going in cycles and we're currently at the bottom of current cycle (best time to invest). Bitcoin is going to peak around September 2024, reaching $100k+. Every crash is just marking a new beginning, new cycle.  Cool
1200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 18, 2023, 08:59:10 AM
finally Sinner is showing a minimum of continuity in his results and against Tsitsipas, it was not so easy to predict a victory with this effort... who knows if Sinner will be able to reach the final again

I've only seen part of the first set. No idea how it stands now but the first et was a big punishment for Wrawrinka who only won 1 game in the first set. It's bound to be an easy win for the tall Sinner. He can certainly make it to the final, but I suspect it won't be easy. He still faces quite a bit of resistance. Medvedev is also still in the tournament. We also see the Greek track against Gijs Brouwer in another quarterfinal, which I had not added to my list. We now have to wait for the next Grand Slam in the summer, a pity that there is always so much time in a year.

Sinner got the job done in 2 sets and a bit over an hour. A fairly straight forward match
really, 6-1 in the first set, Stan made a bit of a bigger challenge in the first half of
the second set but Jannik was stronger, he has definitely carried that focus and momentum
from yesterdays win against Tsitsipas, he just needs to keep carrying it to the final.

He really is looking like a contender for the title based on those two matches.

Both Medvedev and Sinner have easy matches for the final especially Sinner that can win easily. Still want that final between Medvedev and Sinner and i think we are really close to see and epic match betweem these two players. But Medvedev plays against Dimitrov so it wont be that easy

Yea both should win today to set up a final.

The final itself if and when Medvedev/Sinner meet should be epic eventhough
as Trofo points out the 4/0 H2H, I believe it might start to change in Sinners favour.

Medvedev is building and from match to match we can see his confidence growing.
Sinner has reached a new level and unlike in the past he seems to be able to maintain
his professionalism, mentality, focus and high intensity. Will it be enough to potentially
beat Medvedev?

Todays matches will reveal a bit more, in theory bothvshould win in 2 sets.

My bet would be on Medvedev. He has recovered after a series of bitter losses and is now stronger and hungrier than before (just like Swiatek in WTA now). He also has more big tournament and final experience than Jannik.  Cool
