121  Other / Meta / Re: ThemePen - Merit Source Application on: April 29, 2024, 03:35:25 AM
I'm not familiar with ThemePen, his posts, or his merit-giving history other than what was shown here but I agree.  I'd say every local board that has a sizeable number of active members needs at least one dedicated merit source--and I've been of that opinion for years now.  It allows members who might not be able to write in English the chance to earn merits more easily and prevents the main section from being flooded with incomprehensible posts.

I think basically the same.

I think most campaigns pay for posts from local boards, right?  So that's another reason for local board merit sources.

Yes, today most pay for at least part of the weekly required posts on local boards, and some pay for posts on local boards without limit. So, as you say, local merit sources can also encourage people who are not fluent in English to create constructive content and they can also get paid for it in their local section.
122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Something is seriously wrong with bitcoin markets. No liquidity? Should we sell? on: April 28, 2024, 04:47:32 AM
I'm not surprised to see some of these threads on the forums but this one takes the cake. The OP worried about a supposed liquidity crunch to sell his two bitcoins, when the bitcoin market is extremely liquid, more for those amounts and open 24/7. There was liquidity crunch in 2008, what there is now with some rate hikes doesn't even remotely resemble it, just look at inflation is still rising.

So, if you want to sell, OP, sell, because at the end of the day we cannot be 100% sure how the price will go, although it will most likely go up over the next year, but not because of a supposed lack of liquidity that does not exist. sgbett has given you good advice as well.
123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making the Most of $100 bankroll on: April 28, 2024, 04:36:17 AM
The bankroll is used to avoid the risk of bankruptcy in the face of bad streaks, which is usually achieved with a good mentality and downgrading when the money in the bankroll reaches a limit. As mentioned, there are more aggressive or less aggressive strategies, and, in particular, as I do not usually play sports betting I can not give specific advice but the only one is to downgrade, if you can, when you reach half bankroll. That is, if you start with $100 and are going to make $5 bets, if you lose a total of $50, leaving you with a bankroll of another $50, you have to reduce the size of the bet to $2.5, if you can. You should always lower the bet size when your bankroll reaches half, unless you are already at the lowest level.

But you can also increase the bet size when you reach double bankroll, that is until you reach a level where you are comfortable that it is worth your while to make withdrawals. Then you don't go any higher - you can set a 200x bet as your bankroll and withdraw anything over that.
124  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam warning - Yomix mixer, turned into an exit scam! on: April 28, 2024, 04:23:01 AM
Should previous positive trust be removed if scam occurs?
It should probably stay, so it shows a timeline of events, and shows how the account went from "good" to "bad".

I'll try to remember for next time as I agree that it is surely better to understand what happened chronologically. Although I don't think it is too bad to delete the previous one and I have seen it done in other cases. The bad thing is that once you delete the feedback you can no longer restore it on the same temporary location, but in any case in my new one I refer to the old one.
125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are Nassim Taleb's ideas useful in gambling? on: April 27, 2024, 06:11:39 AM
I have heard about it, and especially in case 1:

1. Ideas from the book “Fooled by Randomness.” There are many ideas that boil down to the fact that we often mistake randomness for a pattern.

This is something I keep repeating. Patterns are human constructs that we plot to understand random series of events, and they are patterns that get shattered as we get more data from the series.

I know some of his words, but number 1 certainly resonates with me on a personal level.

I often get fooled by certain events that happened in succession with the same outcome thinking that all of it was forming a pattern of some sort. This is what I thought of in dice games but little did I know that these are nothing but random events forming similar outcomes. I thought for a second that I could make some money off it, and when it happened for 3 times, I was certain that the next roll would be in my favor (high). I went all in and bam, I just lost all my bankroll because it rolled low.

In order for this not to happen to you, apart from understanding about patterns you should understand about mathematical expectation. If there is any “pattern” there it is that you were having too much luck, to put it in colloquial terms, not that you were on a streak that could continue.
126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Blogs and Forums. Additional Features in Online Casinos on: April 27, 2024, 06:04:07 AM
Do you by chance consider these features when assessing and selecting which casinos to join and play on?

No, I don't consider it and in terms of poker they are not usually the best. 2plus2 is much better than the Pokerstars forum, for example. I imagine that the houses do it to cover the social component but if you want to look for the best information you better do it outside the house.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First ever epic sat sold for 33.3 BTC on: April 27, 2024, 05:57:45 AM
Converting 33.3 BTC to a dust, 1 satoshi, is crazy.

That's what I don't understand. Aren't small amounts like this, considered as dust can't be sent in a valid transaction?

Regardless of this, paying that much seems like bullshit to me, and the assumption is that the one paying is because he expects that fucking satoshi to be worth more in the future.
128  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam warning - Yomix mixer, turned into an exit scam! on: April 27, 2024, 05:21:44 AM
First, thanks to NotATether for letting me know about this. I am always open to change my feedback and more so if it is in a blatant case like this. Apart from changing it I have also supported the flag.

Hey dkbit98, on the other forum you say the only positive they had was mine. I don't know if it's a matter of your custom trust list but julerz12 is on DT2 and had also left positive feedback for them. Maybe someone should let him know about this too.
129  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Inflation Necessary on: April 26, 2024, 03:57:10 AM
It is not whether it is necessary or not. Good inflation indicates economic growth but what we have today is high inflation due to the devaluation of the currency and the indebtedness of the states.

For example, the same wouldn't happen if we used gold as a currency instead.

This is false. Already since Roman times the rulers found a way to devalue the currency by introducing copper alloys and other metals, but people soon realized it and prices went up.
130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Beyond Wagering on: April 26, 2024, 03:46:10 AM
For me, learning what a bankroll was and managing it was the step prior to establishing a budget in my life and managing it as well. It was like the background of my personal finances and getting my financial life in order.
131  Other / Meta / Re: Is Samourai wallet now banned from Bitcointalk? on: April 26, 2024, 03:38:42 AM
What is clear to me is that if Samourai wallet were to somehow become able to operate it was not going to be able to have an Ann thread on Bitcointalk, nor a signature campaign either. For sig campaigns there are only exchanges and casinos. And let's hope they don't go after them in the future as well.
132  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Samourai wallet - what went wrong? on: April 26, 2024, 03:33:33 AM
There is one other thing I saw in the DoJ report that you don't cite, that they were bragging about working for “grey and black markets”, so they were acknowledging working for illegal activities. If you simply defend privacy and work for it, surely you can defend yourself better when you are accused of money laundering, at least with that of plausible deniability, saying that you offer privacy and you don't know if any of your many honest customers is a criminal.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is day by day more popular in middle East. on: April 26, 2024, 03:28:51 AM
Quote
The leading country is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where 72% of crypto users are actively investing in Bitcoin.

So 72% of crypto users in a the country are investing in Bitcoin.
This is special or extraordinary because?

Quote
The report projects that the region's daily active users will continue to rise, reaching an estimated 700,000 by the end of 2024.

Middle East has around 400 million people, so by the end of the year we're going to have 0.2% of the population as daily active users.

When I read the OP I already knew it was going to be a quote taken out of context like this. When I read the OP I already knew it was going to be a quote taken out of context like this. The title will be true, that every day there is a growing interest but little by little and from very low levels, as hugeblack says. From there to the image that the OP had painted for himself (and for us) is a long way off.
134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Projected how to spend gambling profits while the game has not played yet? on: April 25, 2024, 04:13:08 AM
Well, yes, but because poker gives me income on a regular basis. If you bet in a casino and plan what to do with the jackpot money, it is not a very serious planning because you don't know when you are going to win, and by the time you win you will surely have spent more money in that game than the one you win, so it would have been better for you to save it.
135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Focus on how much you may lose and not only the potential win. on: April 25, 2024, 03:54:52 AM
If you knew that gambling sites were just a place to spend your free time, you wouldn't think of having any other purpose than just having fun. After all, we gamble for fun and not to make money. If your goal is to get money from gambling, it doesn't seem right because it's not easy to get money from gambling.

That's not the point, it's precisely the possibility of winning money that makes gambling fun. The problem is not so much getting money from it as being aware that the odds are against you and that, although in some sessions you may end up positive, in the long run you are going to lose money. Nobody should sell you a system to beat the house, such as Martingale, because they are bullshit.
136  Economy / Economics / Re: World price tag on every product. on: April 25, 2024, 03:47:40 AM
What a load of bullshit. The OP does not understand basic economic issues, such as that a product cannot cost the same in a country where the product is easily and abundantly produced as it does in a country that does not produce it and has to import it. Nor in a country where it is in high demand than in a country where it is not.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Investing To Now Taxable Events on: April 25, 2024, 03:40:34 AM
I don't know the specific case of Canada but I'm sure it happens like in most of the world: the moment you use bitcoin to buy something else, be it cryto, gold or whatever is a taxable event. It does not happen like in investment funds in some countries that you can make transfers without paying taxes until you convert the funds to money.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: No gambling today due to bitcoin high transaction fee. on: April 24, 2024, 02:32:08 PM
I see that the fees have dropped below 100 sats/vByte, which is a relief but affects those depositing low amounts, such as between $10 and $50. But I think if we wait a little longer they will become even more reasonable, although I would not rule out more spikes in the future.
139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports winnings taxes on: April 24, 2024, 02:19:16 PM
However if you spend directly bitcoin ( please correct me if I am wrong) you don't need to pay any tax on this... .

That's wrong. From the moment he earns money in the casino, a taxable event is produced for which he will have to pay taxes, unless where they live they do not tax casino winnings for taxes. And when he spends it, a taxable event is also created on the difference in price when he won it and when he spent it.
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leak of Chivo Bitcoin ATMs code in Elsavador on: April 24, 2024, 02:15:18 PM
I suppose that since it is in El Salvador it will be given a lot of hype but there have been cases of hackers obtaining data even from ministries in other countries.

I disagree and why would you blame it on hate on the government. Blame it on the developers of the software behind Chivo.

I think the same. The company had an obligation not only to develop good software but to keep it updated securely.
