1221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is Altcoins Follow BTC Rally? on: December 24, 2020, 12:29:08 AM
Altcoins can be divided into 2 groups: those who follow bitcoin pumps and those who have their own pumps but usually follow the trend of the whole market.

The first group is like BCH, LTC, ETH... They follow bitcoin and usually do it pretty fast but with a reserve, so when Bitcoin pumps 10% they may go up 5%.
The second group pumps and dumps independently. Those are usually small and not very popular altcoins or tokens built on Ether, but even those coins dump when the market as a whole dumps, like when we had that US lockdown in Spring.
1222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The demise of Bitcoin. Biggest threat to Bitcoin and all PoW coins on: December 23, 2020, 11:50:44 PM
If someone discovers a free energy source, then miners will flock to  use it, and that will make a 51% attack impossible.

There are lots of "free" energy sources such as solar, wind and tide, and yet Bitcoin is still secure and strong.

While your first sentence is true the second one is not.

Wind solar and so on are not free energy sources and it's the same with that mountain, even if it really emits energy. You need to spend a lot of money to harness that "free" energy and it makes it no longer free.

If you could build a solar or wind generator that would work by itself for decades it would be great but even that can't be done. You always have to pay for land on which you'll build it, materials to make it, spare parts to keep it going...

1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin end the dollar’s reign? on: December 23, 2020, 11:39:43 PM
I think that dollar will destroy itself at some point. It will probably take another 100 years but at some point the inflation will make it so that you'll pay 100 USD for a coffee and buying a normal house will cost you millions.

At that point Bitcoin will probably be forked multiple times and worth millions of dollars per coin or completely forgotten. Whatever happens, it won't be soon.
1224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Electricity Consumption on: December 23, 2020, 11:28:35 PM
Quote
So, I guess the question is, what is the feasible price of bitcoin when considering other objective functions such as environmental sustainability?

Electricity produces CO2,but so what?Trees and plants consume CO2,so the problem with CO2 production can be solved,if we plant more trees on the planet Earth. Grin
Can you measure "environmental sustainability"?I don't think so.
Coal mining and coal consumption in the third world countries is a way bigger problem than crypto mining,so let's not become like all those "progressive" ecological fanatics, like Greta Tunberg.
Many industries are polluting the Earth way more than the crypto industry.
And yes, crypto mining will become more and more energy efficient, year after year. The miners want lower electricity costs, don't they?

Electricity doesn't produce CO2, its production does and not even all of it because solar panels don't produce CO2.

Miners don't produce CO2 just like your home computer doesn't do it.

Would CO2 not be produced if we stopped mining? The answer is no.

1225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early signs of crime with bitcoin. on: December 23, 2020, 09:24:38 PM
From this source, you can see the actual scam metheld used and it wasn't Bitcoin;
"French prosecutors say Vinnik was one of the creators of a malicious software called “Locky” that was delivered through email. If downloaded, the recipient’s data was encrypted and they were asked to pay ransom in bitcoin to free it."

The ransom could have been paid in any other valuable commodity as ransom payment was a thing long before Bitcoin was invented.

He was also the owner of BTCe exchange that got shut down when he was arrested.

He's going to laugh when he comes out of prison. He only got 5 years and 100 thousand EUR fine and his malware stole millions and he made a lot of money running an exchange. He probably also stole some coins when the exchange disappeared so he should be good. I'd sacrifice 5 years of my life if I could later live like a millionaire.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with this guy and his scams.
1226  Economy / Speculation / Re: Covid 2.0 UK has suffered massively and BTC is dropping on: December 23, 2020, 02:52:05 AM
I am really not sure what's going around, Are billionaires spreading rumours to make vaccines demand? To me it looks like BTC will go down slowly from now, what's your opinion guys.
Why would billionaires spread rumour about all this, majority of the billionaires are businessman and that will affect their business as well and there is a new strain of virus and some of the countries have banned the travel from UK due to the new rise and you cannot lie in this day and age, that being said i am not sure whether these news have affected the market.

I think it has not affected it at all.

Small corrections like that happen within every bullish trend and they were happening in 2017, you can check it for yourselves. There were even corrections taking a week straight within a bull run to 20000. This was just a one day sell off which is nothing special.

I don't think covid in the UK has enough impact to affect bitcoin. There's just not enough bitcoins traded there and a new strain or not we know that mortality rate is really low.

1227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking news: Skybridge Invested $25 million in Bitcoin on: December 23, 2020, 02:05:42 AM
This is becoming a trend among rich people and this is good. They are looking at each other when it comes to investments and don't really care about us little people.

When a random person becomes a millionaire thanks to bitcoin it's a big thing for other random people but not for millionaires, but when one of them invests and jumps up a couple points in Forbes 100 thanks to it it's a big deal.

You can expect more rich people to at least wet their feet now.
1228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cash out or HODL - Bitcoin? on: December 23, 2020, 12:14:06 AM
It's the same every time. People come at every single level and ask if they should hold or sell and the answer is always the same.

If you need money now sell. If you're sick, need to help your friends and family, need to lend money to someone, have a big purchase coming like a house or something, just sell.

If you don't need money now and have enough to live buy keep holding.
1229  Economy / Economics / Re: EU reality and challenges. on: December 21, 2020, 09:42:31 PM
why should people in Bucharest, who have less clean energy than the Dutch and more coal-based power plants have the same CO2 emission limits?
Taxes are still different but I feel like they are increasing more rapidly in the Eastern Europe due to EU regulations.

Quote
The share of sustainably generated electricity in total Dutch electricity consumption was 13.8 percent in 2017
The structure of electricity production of Romania in 2019 was provided by 26.75% – hydro-energy 12.09% – wind power

You were saying?
Actually, the Netherlands lags behind a lot of countries when it comes to energy.

Yet they are burning much less coal than other countries like Romania that we were talking about.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_in_Romania#/media/File:Graph_Romania_electricity_supply_mix_2010.svg

As you can see in the above chart 33% of Romania's energy is produced from coal. In the Netherlands (first from the left) they rely on solid fuels only in 11% and mostly burn gas and oil.

https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Marc_Makkes/publication/259573353/figure/fig5/AS:341805276123145@1458504136969/Energy-production-mix-for-a-the-Netherlands-b-Germany-and-c-Austria.png

My point is that we should not compare numbers but realize that each country is different and utilizes different resources. It doesn't matter if one year Romania produces more CO2 and the other year it's the Netherlands. We shouldn't force them to fit into some kind of average production boundaries.
1230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the top 5 ALTS you held in 2020 on: December 21, 2020, 06:46:09 PM
I don't have top 5 because I don't even own 5 altcoins at the moment.

I held ETH, ADA, some very small amounts of Monero and Doge.

All of the above together were maybe 10% of my all crypto savings. The rest is Bitcoin.

I'm amazed how many of you held XRP. Damn people you're going to lose money on that bet.
1231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the founder of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto show up and give bitcoin? on: December 21, 2020, 06:29:43 PM
OP thinks Satoshi is Santa or what?

If you were an inventor who made something, would you spend Christmas giving it away for free?

Maybe Elon should be giving a free Tesla to everyone and Bill gates should give a free copy of Windows, because it's holiday season ho ho ho! Grin
Not likely a santa but you know big companies had made good profit due to the fact that their workers are motivated and wanted to stay in a company they are working due to some excitement even a little gifts for them. This will be seeing as a sort of motivation for the workers in case to us the bitcoiners. What do you think could happen to the forum when giveaways will be conducted? I think more and more bitcoiners will come over to the forum and enjoy the stay.

Satoshi is not a company CEO.
Bitcoiners are not his employees.
We don't need to be motivated to use Bitcoin.
Satoshi doesn't need to organize giveaways because his idea is already popular.

Also, Satoshi is probably dead...

Apples and oranges.
1232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OMG !!!!! You BitCoin people were right. I wish I had bought back in March :( on: December 21, 2020, 06:09:09 PM
The return of the torll.

You were so negative towards bitcoin and now when it went up and you were proven wrong you change your mind? Some say better late than never.

If I were you I wouldn't buy because you're reacting late to the market. You're following a move instead of predicting it. Just buy gold since you think it's so much better than bitcoin.
1233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin End The Current Political System? on: December 20, 2020, 11:17:13 PM
For me it's very clear that I'd choose bitcoin over the currency that my government controls. What are the things that make us still use fiat then?

We don't use it because we think it's better we use it because other people use it.

Why do other people use it? Because they are used to it. They come from the time where there was no choice. You went to work you got paid in fiat. Now they have a choice, we have a choice. For us it's going to be normal for them it will be a change of habits they had for decades.

So it will happen but we'll have to wait until a whole new generation grows knowing they have a choice.
1234  Economy / Economics / Re: Buying a Tesla with Bitcoin on: December 20, 2020, 10:54:14 PM
It can be confusing but:

-there are many different tesla models
-a new tesla from previous year is going to be much cheaper. You can buy new 2019 models in 2020 and save some money
-the value of USD/tesla was also different in 2018 because of inflation and stuff
-teslas are overpriced. Even a stupid set of alu rims for a tesla costs 2000 USD.
-their price varies from country to country. In Germany a new model 3 costs 43000 EUR so 52000 USD

1235  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be a massive BTC dump? on: December 20, 2020, 10:37:37 PM
As strong bitcoin rally continues and we may see ATH soon do you think there will be a massive retracement as well? I think current rally is different from 2017, bitcoin became more mature with support of big and smart money so I don't anticipate major price rop.

I think not, because the true bullish trend has not yet arrived, according to Wyckoff's theory as I have seen my analysis there is still a lot to come, many investors have bought at the prices of $ 20k, which means that they are not going to buy to earn little, they always buy low to sell high.

I see it just like you. We are in the beginning of the real bull run that gets straight up on the charts. The bull run when you wake up every single day and the price is higher.

This is still a lazy bull run with a lot of selloffs. People are afraid every next level is going to be the end so they sell and buy back 2 days later because they see it doesn't want to go much lower. In a real bull run they're going to be euphoric and talking about the things they'll buy with all the profits. You need that euphoria first to have a depression later Wink
1236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why hasn’t the correction happened yet? Or has it? on: December 20, 2020, 10:17:02 PM
Pretty much like in 2017. We went from 3000 to 20000 without any serious correction. If we were to repeat it we'd go to 100 thousand next year.

You're asking if we had a correction. I'd call that drop on December 17 a correction. Bull market dumps are like bear market pumps - small and weak.
1237  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to invest best $2,000-$5,000? on: December 20, 2020, 10:07:38 PM
I'd first invest it all into bitcoin and not even consider altcoins. If bitcoin investment is climbing up a mountain, altcoin investment is like doing the same thing in a war zone with bombs falling all around you and ground shaking. Sometimes something blows up and throws you towards the peak but most of the time you'll slip and fall lower.

Try to get your first investment out as soon as you can. If you invest 2000 and get a 100% profit, take 2000 out of the market and keep the other 2000 invested. This will calm you down and make you feel like the money you're risking is free.
1238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk on Bitcoin: "Bitcoin is almost as bs as fiat money" on: December 20, 2020, 09:55:02 PM
You think he's serious? We're talking about a man who sent a car into space.

It's like his tweets about anime, don't take it for real, but if you really want to, he said almost as, but we all use fiat money despite that. So bitcoin is better than fiat money, more people should use it according to Musk. He's using bullshit fiat money every day and bitcoin is that better alternative.

1239  Economy / Economics / Re: which will u choose to buy on: December 20, 2020, 09:41:58 PM
It's sad how you all think of Bitcoin in terms of fiat money. I don't live in the USA so I won't ever have cash.

If I had a million dollars now I wouldn't even be able to spend it because I'd have to go to a bank first and exchange it and they'd probably call the police on me if they saw me walking with a bag of foreign cash like that. Grin

Regardless, if I ever have a lot of money because Bitcoin reaches 100 thousand dollars or something, I won't spend it on cars that's for sure. Why would I even  want a Ferrari? It's expensive to fix if anything breaks, it's small and uncomfortable for long drives, just a thing screaming that I'm rich to random people that I drive by.
1240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shall I HODL DOGE? on: December 20, 2020, 09:23:06 PM
I think that Doge is better than LTC if that's what you're asking.

For me it's simple. If you have BTC, play around with any altcoin you like. It's your money.

If you don't have BTC, get BTC first before you go into any altcoins.

I prefer DOGE over XRP, BSV and many other coins but it's always better to have bitcoin.
