1301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott anti-bitcoiners movement. You discriminate Bitcoin, we boycott you. on: November 02, 2011, 04:00:18 AM
Portnoy, CornedBeefHash:

1. I do not care what you think.
2. Man can change his mind once in a while. (but now it seems that the original decision to leave this forum was quite a good one)
3. If you want to tell me where and what I can post or not, or if you want to tell me now that I am not allowed to post something here or there you little kids can go to hell, or more specifically to my ignore list.

1302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott anti-bitcoiners movement. You discriminate Bitcoin, we boycott you. on: November 01, 2011, 07:04:00 PM
Ofcourse we are all here discussing the boycott paypal stuff, but now I'm wondering if this thread isn't only linkbait from Vladimir to get some more users to his forum...
Very strange that one person starts a thread and then just abandons the discussion to others.

I do not really care much about "linkbiting". Simply posted something and decided to cross-post here. If someone goes to one forum but not another or does not like websites which use javascript I do not really care about that either and it is offtopic anyway.

FYI I did not mean by "discrimination" not using bitcoin as payment method. That would really be quite stupid, would it not? What I meant by that is more active hostility towards bitcoin, like suspending accounts because bitcoin is simply mentioned etc...

As for boycott thing, it is a voluntary I simply offered to share opinions not commanded you all to alter your behaviour based on some party line.

I personally boycott SONY (and I like that very much) I avoid ebay and paypal as much as I can. I never ever used that webshop thing and I am not going to anyway, hence this is irrelevant.

Whether any of you want to do something like that or not is your own decision.

The only reason for this thread is facilitate sharing of opinions on the matter. Though, still it seems anything posted here mostly only facilitates trolls growling or something that otherwise not worth the effort needed to respond to.

Those who don't yet recognize this "invention" as a scam may find this article interesting:

A blog commenter using the name “Penny Gruber” nailed it:

“Rossi is a convicted [criminal guilty of] serial fraud. His discovery is that, with enough chutzpah, one can convince a number of people that an electric tea kettle is a new kind of nuclear reactor.”

Stanley Meyer claimed before his suspicious death that he refused an offer of a billion dollars from Arab oil interests if he would stop work on his electrolysis process.

New biz model. You start working on new "electrolysis process", stage a fake demo or two and wait for 1 billion offer to stop working on this. Awesome.
1306  Other / Off-topic / Re: Successful Test of Cold Fusion Device - Customer (DARPA?) pays 2 million$. on: October 31, 2011, 12:47:23 PM
In his latest press release, Rossi explained how his device works.

It's actually not cold fusion. It turns out that the device consumes as much electrical power as the heat it releases, but as a side-effect the device generates enough bitcoins to pay for the power consumed, so Rossi has been ignoring the electricity input in his energy calculations.

Ingenious, I should call a press conference and show them how I produce enough heat for free to heat my house. All at one time cost of a bunch of 5970s. Electricity is free after that since it is being paid for by bitcoins.

Here is an idea of a device which would compete with Rossi's cold fusion. 6990 based space heater. It is only 1000£ per 1kW, you connect it to the grid and to the net. There will be a service that takes your bitcoins and sells it for fiat which are being paid direct to you electricity company. Free heat, here we go.

1307  Other / Off-topic / Re: Successful Test of Cold Fusion Device - Customer (DARPA?) pays 2 million$. on: October 31, 2011, 12:10:57 PM
"... a group of unknown, unverifiable people carried out tests which cannot be checked." (Wired). Forgive me for remaining sceptical.

Moreover, laws of thermodynamic has not been disproved so far. Rossi claims that he can mass produce these space heaters at 100$ per kW. Let's just all of us buy a dozen... global warming here we come... free energy! yea right...

Now if any of t his is true than at today's electricity prices these 100$/kW babeis would pay itself off in 42 days. It is way better then even bitcoin mining rigs in its heydays.

Unknown customer, according to Rossi, is happy that that box produces all that energy and do not pay attention to that fat cable from power grid to our kettle it does not contribute any power. Yea, right... the "customer" sez it's fine.

Even at current 1000$/kW Rossi could have juts engaged in building power plants and selling electricity to the grid. It is juts so easy to build a viable biz model once you have free energy. Why is it Rossy instead of selling energy engages into all those scammy demos instead? Something is fishy here...

Occam's Razor would suggest that this is a scam as this would be the simplest explanation of all the facts.
1308  Economy / Economics / Re: What would be the most effective way to stabilize BTC price? on: October 31, 2011, 11:39:48 AM
To think that stability will be found at a single digit 'floor' is beyond absurd.

Indeed. It makes holding bitcoins without engaging into short term speculative hysteria so much more rewarding.

enjoy using custom clients   Grin

also do this every single day  Grin Grin Grin

There is a good reason why I use old versions of bitcoind (and GUI client). I just let you all test it for half a year or so... than it seems like a good and well tested software for me.  Wink

Gotta love it when reporters without any IT background talk about these things:

Hacks are almost a form of currency in the cybercrime economy. Hackers launch cyberattacks on as many victims as they can in order to sell their access to interested third parties.

I guess hackers now gotta get a banking license before doing any hacking.

1315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Boycott anti-bitcoiners movement. You discriminate Bitcoin, we boycott you. on: October 29, 2011, 09:53:01 AM
Boycott anti-bitcoiners movement. (#BABM). You discriminate #bitcoin, we #boycott you. Fair is fair.

Some companies chose to discriminate bitcoin users. As, for example, reported here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNUsgX-ZTZM
http://mrmoneyhustler.blogspot.com/

Out of top of my head we already have quite a few candidates to BABM wrath.

Ebay
Paypal
Webstore

Some companies, for example, like paypal/ebay are very difficult to boycott due to their monopoly position in some markets. One could try to help the boycott effort anyway, simply by minimizing usage of their services as much as possible and by giving some custom to their competitors where possible.

Tell us here and in https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums/topic/404-boycott-anti-bitcoiners-movement-babm-you-discriminate-bitcoin-we-boycott-you-fair-is-fair/ if some company discriminates Bitcoin.

Some of us would be happy to add those to the "shit list".

Tell us if you would like to join BABM (boycott anti-bitcoiners movement) and who you personally are going to boycott.

If you think this idea is any good, tweet it. Spread the word.

1316  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: October 29, 2011, 08:47:15 AM
from TA point of view, there is nothing to talk about until it moves above 3.25, than we have higher highs and higher lows on daily which is what all the money on sidelines ultimately are waiting for. (whatever TA tea leaves they are using).

A little "Told ya so" moment. 3.25 was broken up on volume not so long ago. I think that the trend has changed. A few more higher highs and higher lows and bulls are in business big time.
1317  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Bitcoin Payment Method: Direct Transfer from Bank Account on: October 29, 2011, 03:42:16 AM
Do you have a good reason to believe that those BoA's "direct bank account transfers" are irreversible?

1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: someone fucked up and lost ALOT of money on: October 29, 2011, 02:52:14 AM
Interesting event which gives us all some information.

This event has caused about 0.0346% Bitcoin deflation.

Annual MtGox "BTC only income" can be estimated now as approximately 136 000 BTC or at current exchange rates slightly below 0.5 million USD.

Given 7.55 millions of current bitcoin float it is almost 1.8% of all bitcoins currently in existence.

more commentary on this matter at https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums/topic/402-mtgox-the-largest-bitcoin-exchange-has-revealed-its-income/ .

P.S. Only those who do nothing, do not make mistakes.

1319  Economy / Speculation / Re: $/BTC Time Series (Probability) Analysis on: October 29, 2011, 01:19:45 AM

You must never divide by zero...

Just don't do it.

If you can handle infinity, than go ahead and divide by zero, no problem at all. But if you cannot handle infinity, as for example  USS Yorktown, than perhaps yea it is not such a good idea after all, lol.

Quote
A system failure on the USS Yorktown last September temporarily paralyzed the cruiser, leaving it stalled in port for the remainder of a weekend.
"For about two-and-a-half hours, the ship was what we call 'dead in the water,'" said Commander John Singley of the Atlantic Fleet Surface Force.
...
The source of the problem on the Yorktown was that bad data was fed into an application running on one of the 16 computers on the LAN. The data contained a zero where it shouldn't have, and when the software attempted to divide by zero, a buffer overrun occurred -- crashing the entire network and causing the ship to lose control of its propulsion system.
