1321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most Efficient Way To Run A Full Node? on: December 03, 2020, 09:59:51 PM
May I ask why HDD instead of SSD?
HDD is more cost effective than SSD in terms of per gb costs. While it does run a bit louder, Bitcoin nodes has a lot of I/O activity with it due to the constant fetching of block info to supply to the nodes. Flash storage can degrade over time with constant reading and writing. HDD is more reliable in this aspect.
That's true but even if you use it 24/7 it's going to take years before the disk degrades. It should survive at least 3 years of heavy load.

Blockchain requires over 300 GB, a cheap 512GB SSD will cost you about 50EUR. It's the average price of a computer game Wink

If you want it to be cheap to run you can set up a node on raspberry pi or a micro pc. A micro pc with 4gb ram will cost you about 100 EUR
1322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be considered the “gold” of crypto investment? on: December 03, 2020, 09:46:13 PM
If Bitcoin is the gold of crypto then what can be described as silver? Long ago LTC was the silver to bitcoin's gold, it even used a silver logo to promote this difference but now when it got mostly abandoned I don't feel like it's relevant.

As an alternative to gold bitcoin is great because you can't sell gold fast and it's difficult to move it to another country. Bitcoin is just faster and safer.
1323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help my by answering 4 question! Thanks alot! on: December 03, 2020, 02:36:52 PM
- What do you know about bitcoin (3 sentences)
We could quote the first sentence of the abstract of the white paper here. It's the shortest explanation. Look it up.

- Is bitcoin or are shares more popular and why?
Shares (stocks) are much more popular simply because they're older. The stock market exists for more than a century when Bitcoin only for a decade.

- Is there still enough enthusiasm for bitcoin and why?
We went to a new high a few days ago so there has to be enough

- What would you recommend each bitcoin starter to do?
Invest at least 1% of their wealth in Bitcoin and hold.
1324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the actual all-time high, really? (re: LFC's bet with Bossian) on: December 03, 2020, 02:18:08 PM
I usually follow the same exchange and decide if a new ATH is reached by looking at price on that particular exchange. The exchange that I had on my price ticker was always bitstamp and now the ath there is higher than it was in 2017. So if the price has reached a new high on the same exchange it means we have a new high.

I don't get why people make bets and don't pay up. It's less than 1000 USD at todays prices, which people make in less than a month of signature posting. Surely less than your honor is worth Wink
1325  Economy / Economics / Re: Visa is getting more interested in Crypto on: December 03, 2020, 02:02:59 PM
It's a matter of time before more companies do what paypal did. There's a lot of money to be made in Bitcoin and only a fool wouldn't see it.

Early companies that chose bitcoin like those US stores that accepted it early did it for publicity but those that do it now do it for the profit. In bull market people are more set towards spending and it is going to bring a lot of traffic to payment processors.
1326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your Life After 10 years in Bitcoin... on: December 02, 2020, 10:31:35 PM
I bought Bitcoin in its lows in 2016 and held through the 2018 all time high. I don't feel rich and have no regrets now that it's again in a new high.

It's still very early for Bitcoin and I know that 50 thousand dollars is not some very distant dream. It can happen within weeks when more institutions come in and put 1% of their money into it.

My life has changed for the better because thanks to Bitcoin I felt safe financially. I did not sell but it gave me the confidence to invest and take on new daring fiat projects because I knew that if anything goes wrong I'll still have my bitcoin savings.
1327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I believe I made the right choice on: December 02, 2020, 09:53:56 PM
It's great that you're happy with your choice OP. Everything is subjective and while you feel good somebody could say that for them it wouldn't be a good choice so you rarely can tell if something is good or bad.

I'd also like you resign from mining at this time because if your ROI hits next year it's possible that you will miss the peak of the bull run. It's much easier to make money investing than mining when coins are pumping.
1328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bounty rewards on: December 02, 2020, 09:25:35 PM
Every time someone starts a thread to complain about how the token is now worthless when it started trading or how they were cheated and not paid I say that people should demand 2 things from a new coin they're advertising. The first one is escrow so that the manager gets the payment when the campaign begins. The second one is payment in existing cryptocurrency like BTC, ETH, or any other.

Some people say that they can't because they have no money. If you have no money then you're already bankrupt and want to make money out of nothing. That's a red flag.
1329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Airdrops are important on: December 02, 2020, 09:06:47 PM
I feel like they used to mean a lot in 2017 and 2018 but now most airdrops aren't worth it. I know that I got some coins for free for owning bitcoin and those coins were worth nothing. Like for 10 thousand dollars in bitcoin staked I was getting 5 dollar in some shitcoin.

This amount is not even worth the time needed to set up the wallet. You could say that it can pump, sure, but how many of you have time to sit and wait every day for that coin to pump 2x so you can earn another $5?
1330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: who are those real rich elite who invest in bitcoin ? on: December 02, 2020, 08:52:05 PM
Many of them are open about their investment. You can google "bitcoin millionaires" and you'll get your answer.

Also note that there's a difference between people who have millions thanks to Bitcoin like Roger Ver, people who were rich and multiplied their fortunes with Bitcoin like the W. twins and people who were very rich and recently became interested in Bitcoin.

Also, Bill Gates seems to hate bitcoin.
1331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Libra is planning to launch in January on: December 02, 2020, 08:23:03 PM
Did they really get a green light from the government? I thought that the project was scrapped. Maybe they think Biden will be more lenient?

Libra is too late. They had their chance in the bitcoin's bear market but now? The big news for this year is paypal, BTC bull market and eth 2.0. Nobody cares about zuck the crook.
1332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is bitcoin rising? Also...question for the experts on: December 01, 2020, 05:12:51 PM
I feel like we are looking for reasons to explain the move but there could be no reason other than the end of bear market.

Investors know that when something bounces off the bottom it usually goes back up. If the asset is depreciating the bounce is lower than the previous high and when it's appreciating like Bitcoin the bounce is higher.

I like to say that the market drives itself and buyers and sellers are only deciding if they want to put more or less fuel in.
1333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rant: If you have sell target, YOU'RE COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT. on: December 01, 2020, 04:55:14 PM
Targets are the reason for dumps at round numbers like 20 thousand or 10 thousand. People make it easy for themselves to remember and try to sell at these points.

I can understand them because some who plan to hold for more than a year need that push to make themselves take profit and buy something. Otherwise they'd be holding forever as it rises and never spend profits. If you're one of those people who never feel like the price is high enough maybe you need to set a target and stick with it or in you'll have a million dollars in Bitcoin and still live with your parents and drive a 20 year old car to work.
1334  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hitting ATH right now? on: December 01, 2020, 03:35:38 PM
On many exchanges we've officially hit an all time high today and it's not going to stay like that or go lower before confirming a new high on every chart. That's how it works folks, the price will look for a significant confirmation every time. It will either fail to reach the target or reach it and go past it.

It's really a great feeling of accomplishment because I knew when we were down and people were bearish that it's going to happen again.
1335  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin profit Christmas gifts. on: December 01, 2020, 03:16:03 PM
The best gift is Bitcoin going back to its all time high or at least close to it. I hope it will establish a new high by Christmas. If it happens I won't need any other gift.

As for gifts for other people I have enough fiat money to buy them. I don't have to spend my saved up bitcoins when the bull market is out in full force. That would be a waste.
1336  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin breaks above $19,000 on: November 29, 2020, 11:33:47 PM
I am sure that by the new year, the price of BTC will exceed the historical maximum and will be more than $ 20,000. if you look carefully at the chart and study it from the point of view of technical analysis, it is quite possible to predict this.

Ta is very bad at predicting time of moves.

It's already difficult to say if price will go up or down in a volatile market influenced by news, FUD, FOMO, politics and more like BTC is.
Accurately predicting when the move will happen is almost impossible.

I also think that we'll break above 20 thousand but it could take 6 months.
1337  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do we see the price of bitcoin after 3 decades on: November 29, 2020, 11:09:45 PM
While I always tell people to have at least some of their money in Bitcoin, even 1%, I wouldn't be bold enough to tell them to buy at 17000 because it's going to change their lives.
I don't want to be responsible for their losses.

Technical analysis shows that we are in a high price and the fear index is showing greed. This is not enough to say that we'll go down from here but enough to be cautious so we don't end up like Tom Lee who at 20000 dollars in 2018 was saying on TV that we're going higher.
1338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Altcoins replace Bitcoin?!?!? on: November 29, 2020, 10:57:29 PM
No and I'm telling it after watching the market for the last few years.
Here's some points for you to consider:

The price of Bitcoin did not fall when altcoins begun to appear. It went up.
The price did not fall when ICOs boomed and it did not fall when bitcoin itself split into BCH. We reached ATH a few months later.
There are no altcoins that ever came close to the market cap of bitcoin and it doesn't look like any of them is threatening.

1339  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin are good and not USDT what else? on: November 29, 2020, 10:49:32 PM
What's the point in keeping coins on a bank account? This would be counterproductive.

Sure, nobody else apart from the bank can't take your money but the important question is: is there anyone who can?

The bank itself and the government can take your money from a bank account. A bailiff can take your money. A judge can order your money to be taken. The police can take your money.
If that's what you want then be it but I prefer my bitcoins.
1340  Other / Off-topic / Re: i trust more bankers and banks then bitcoin on: November 29, 2020, 10:42:55 PM
What is the point of this thread? I have many things that I like and trust. Should I start threads about every single one of them?

Let's spam the forum and start threads like:
I like ice cream.
I trust my neighbor.
I don't trust bitcoin, what are you going to do about it?

Nothing! Your life, your choice. To be honest my parents also trust banks more than bitcoin. Do I do anything about it? No.
