1341  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Lowering mem clock to idle speeds SPEEDS UP Mh/s on: June 05, 2011, 07:07:45 PM
Thanks PcChip, that worked like a charm! I should've mentioned I was using a sapphire card in my orig. post.

Sapphire users, check out TriXX, it seems to work better on our cards than the oft-recommended MSI Afterburner. No need to mess with ATI driver install, the default standard set is fine.

>300Mh/s, 5830 @ 996/300. Custom fan control keeps it around 65C, which I think is acceptable for long term use.

Sapphire Trixx doesn't show more than one card details like Afterburner shows.
I have 2 sapphire cards & 2 Asus cards & the BEST OC software in windows is MSI Afterburner.
I already tried & tired with Asus pc doctor, sapphire Trixx, AMD GPU clock tool, AMD over drive.......
1342  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Phoenix Rising: Front End GUI to Phoenix Miner on: June 05, 2011, 06:59:48 PM
The OSD position can't be saved. Restart of phoenix rising causes OSD go back to top left corner & also OSD gets messed by displaying each card details in same place. I have 3 cards mining & all 3 at same place.

I also found a problem in version 1.32.
It just says restarting after phoenix crash in a cmd window but can't able to restart.
only way to restart, is to close that window manually & it automatically restarts miner then.
This problem is not with 1.31. In 1.31, it displays restarting & restarts in less than 10-20 seconds.

OSD overlapping & not saving last position is in both 1.31 & 1.32

7.57 bitcoins in bitcoin client.

1344  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GUIMiner - bounty for Phoenix version - now only 1 BTC on: June 05, 2011, 04:55:39 PM
I am now using Phoenix GUIminer for my pc(i sent 2 btc & kiv emailed me) & now Phoenix rising for SH pc.
SH pc gets 430-435 Mhash/s for each 5870 card.

I also get the same speed using cmd option.
Its PHATK which gives more hash/s.

I use this as extra flags DEVICE=0 VECTORS BFI_INT BIT_ALIGN FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=12 -k phatk
Windows 7 , 32 bit with Aero enabled with core clk 984 & mem clk = core clk/3 thats 328 for 5870 card.
For 6870 card(my pc) i am getting 314 Mhash/s using phatk with core clk 1029 & mem clk = (core clk/3) + 14 = 357.
1345  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Phoenix Rising: Front End GUI to Phoenix Miner on: June 05, 2011, 03:05:20 PM
EXCELLENT

Nice GUI, only thing needed is tabbed interface.
I directly tried with 1.32, just for the past 30 minutes, giving correct values & its running with out me for past 5 minutes.
I see shadow behind OSD, causing letters to look double, instead of sharp, even after trying clear type in windows, that i can say bug now.

Rig with 3 cards mining.
1347  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Lowering mem clock to idle speeds SPEEDS UP Mh/s on: June 04, 2011, 09:08:16 PM
Until u try, u can't see problems or solutions.
Seeing post is NOT trying practical.
Install only 3, & if you still can't lower mem clk, then i accept 5830 won't allow to go mem clk below 650.
If you look at overdrive, core clk & mem clk when not mining, it will be in 300 & 300 only.
1348  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Lowering mem clock to idle speeds SPEEDS UP Mh/s on: June 04, 2011, 08:49:20 PM
Using pocplm with an HD5770 (-v -w128), no matter what I get maximum hashes at default memory clock (1200). If I lower it at 300, I get like 5 MHash/s less..
EDIT: Who says the truth?

Reason is very simple. You have installed the express version of catalyst driver, which even if you not selected AMD overdrive to OC, controls the clocking ability & it completely denies & don't allow to hash more, even though you are lowering mem clock & it is shown in Afterburner & also in Overdrive.
AMD overdrive controls the mem clock in background which you can't see.

Simple solution, Uninstall all the catalyst driver using driver sweeper & then reinstall using latest or any catalyst driver with CUSTOM install & install only these 3, ATI display driver, ATI catalyst install manager, APP 2.4.

Check this, http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=6458.msg168021#msg168021
Lowering mem clock reduces temp up to 10C & also increases hash rate.
If you have 6870 card use these, mem clk = (core clk/3) + 14.
If you have 5870 card use these, mem clk = core clk/3.

This gives the MAXIMUM hash with MINIMUM temperature.
Perfect, perfect and perfect!
Now I don't get any hash/s loss, and the temperature reduced.
I did these things
1) Uninstall AMD Overdrive
2) Use Driver Sweeper and clean all ATI drivers
3) Reboot in Safe mode
4) Run Driver Sweeper again in Safemode
5) Install ATI 11.5 using only the 3 selected things you told me.

Still, I can't know at which temperature is my GPU.

If you uninstalled everything & installed only the 3 i said, you won't have AMD VISION Engine Control Center (it is the catalyst center which blocks UC of memory). Just run the setup again & select uninstall & uninstall Catalyst control center.

In your picture,in Afterburner even though fan speed says 68%, fan tachometer, RPM says 0, means fan is not running or may be fan connector fault.
Remove dust from fan to reduce temp.
Also,in Afterburner set fan speed in to manual instead of AUTO & slide it to 100% & see whether temp drops or not.
1349  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Lowering mem clock to idle speeds SPEEDS UP Mh/s on: June 04, 2011, 08:32:33 PM
I have 2 asus EAH5870 & 1 sappire HD 5870 for my SH rig & every card is mining at 430+ Mhash/s with 975 core clk & 325 mem clk in windows 7 32 bit, with aero enabled.
It seems to depends on the card, not the card model.
For my 5870 GPU is set to 900 (it's unstable for higher values) and the performance does not change more than 1% within the range 175<=MEM<=900. Thus I've set 175 for energy & noise reasons.
1350  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy shares, get coins as profit, sell when it goes high & enjoy life on: June 04, 2011, 08:14:46 PM
Until i complete 1st rig to successfully mine, i can't go for 2nd rig.
If you thought share profit is also like price of bitcoins, which increases some 10000 times in weeks, its not.
I am doing as much as i can with calculated risk not to spoil anything.
So, it will be some what slower & also whatever i do, the increase in difficulty will definitely reduce the profit in terms of bitcoins.
But in terms of fiat currency, the profit you get will only increase & won't decrease.

If you are in rush & want to make quick money as bitcoin rate increases many times, i can't help you.
Instead of buying shares, you better sell your coins & make quick money.

I can only give slow, but steady profit in terms of bitcoins. But in terms of fiat currency, you calculate yourself.
Once, i get cables i ordered, i will be able to mine with 8 cards.
Also, before that i have to get new electric line, since so far i used domestic line, electrician told, the watt consume meter won't withstand load of more than 4000W.
I hope, with 1st rig in full mining capacity , the meter will start wobbling, so i have to go for industrial or commercial electric supply.
For that, i have to deposit & get a new line & here everything is slow & corrupted will take time or need high bribe.
I cant go for high bribe with my SH money, so have to wait, but will do as much as i can.
Don't worry about power tariff, i already told 6 INR per kilowatt hour, ie, i get ~7 kilowatt hour per USD.
This is commercial tariff only & it is the maximum price. So, if i go Industrial, i will actually get less bill.

Instead of others, they just start anything & go sky high in less time, i always face problems from starting itself & always will move forward by solving problems. So, i won't fall that easily as i don't go sky high & also i can't go below earth.
It is my both curse & gift.
1351  Bitcoin / Mining / hashkill windows version needed on: June 04, 2011, 07:56:36 PM
hashkill, says it is faster than other miners.
But it is only LOCKED to Linux as developer "gat3way" is an opensource Linux fan or may be don't know Windows programming.
Some one with windows programming can develop windows version of hashkill in command prompt or better in GUI itself.

For this i hope a bounty can be set, so some programmers write windows version.

Guys. I've got a problem.

Does anyone know of a way to limit the videocard usage to like 50% or so in guiminer? My 4870x2 just can't take the heat (seriously!).  With the fan at 80-100%, I'm very quickly reaching temps of 90-95C when mining with even just one gpu. I'd love to run both but it would undoubtedly destroy my card.

Yes. I've cleaned out the video card. I do so every two or three months anyhow, and I don't see temps higher than 55C playing games, and not usually higher than 50C at idle.

Underclocking doesn't seem to help, and i've had limited succes with -f.  Just messing around adding 0's to -f100, I can get it to drop to about 65mh/s per gpu, but it still makes my card sit around 80C.  I have a thermaltake armor case, so airflow really isn't my problem (I runs games like eq2, ddo, and the like and never have a temp issue).

What can I do?

Thanks!

use WORKSIZE = 128 or 64, which will hash less, which will reduce temp.

Waiting for windows version, so i too can get more hashes.
1356  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!** on: June 04, 2011, 05:26:22 PM
5850 will not exceed 150W with a mild oc (not above 800MHz). i had 2x5850 with a 500W PSU for a while, ofcourse my rig is a dedicated one with a single core Sempron, 1GB ram , one 2.5" disk, etc
before any format make sure you have uninstalled all the ATI drivers and sdk and install only the full catalyst 11.3 or 11.5 with _ocl.
nothing more, i think you will be ok Wink
reinstalled, in several ways
using the sdk from catalyst
using 2.2
using 2.4
using kernel 1.6
kernel1.8.

it seems i will have to format :S

Use driver sweeper from http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html & remove all the AMD drivers.
Also, after removing go to safe mode & run again. which will remove every instance of AMD driver.
Then install fresh one. Go for latest 11.5 & 2.4 & instead of express install, go for custom install & ONLY install these 3,
ATI display driver, ATI catalyst install manager, APP 2.4 & if needed vc++.
You will be able to mine with out formating.

Also, don't use askrate & worksize for now.

THANKS A LOT

had to uninstall using both the driver sweeper, and using the catalyst setup, then i installed 11.5 the way you said and now it seems to work Cheesy

Nice, after some time, send me some bitcoins.
Also for CPU usage try this.

1357  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: poclbm using CPU 100% even though using GPU? on: June 04, 2011, 05:21:55 PM
Check this link, It MUST solve CPU usage problem.

1358  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Using pocblm to mine causes 10-100% CPU usage on: June 04, 2011, 05:21:22 PM
The CPU usage problem by pocblm is actually not a problem.
Its due to feature added to catalyst driver after version 10.

If you use version 10 series catalyst driver, then you will see, it uses 1-2% cpu only. & you can further reduce it using granola software.
What it does actually is, it doesn't uses CPU for any graphics work.
The catalyst driver restrict the graphics processing only to GPU.

This has been changed in version 11 series or HD 6000 card series.
In this, catalyst driver allows CPU also can process graphics.

Why this is added & what is the benefit you may ask.
They have added CPU to process graphics to give back up in case GPU usage goes OVER 100%.
I have seen many times, that with version 10, pocblm crashes, if i open some graphics related program.
With Windows 7 & Aero enabled, it can be seen very clearly.
Since Aero uses graphics which is also processed only by GPU, any additional graphics processing, crashes pocblm , so that GPU will be free to process graphics.

You have now 6 options to try.
1.Run with version 10 series catalyst driver + granola + affinity, this gives the LEAST amount of CPU usage.
2.Run with version 10 series catalyst driver + affinity.
3.Run with version 10 series catalyst driver.
4.Run with version 11.5 or latest catalyst driver + granola + affinity.
5.Run with version 11.5 or latest catalyst driver + affinity.
6.Run with version 11.5 or latest catalyst driver, this uses the MOST CPU usage.

I am now using 4 option & i see less CPU usage & temperature as all poclbm or phoenix is set to only one core using affinity.
1359  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GUIMiner - bounty for Phoenix version - now only 1 BTC on: June 04, 2011, 04:54:52 PM
Feature needed in GUIminer.
The CPU usage problem can be controlled by using affinity.
Some one told to set all the miners, ie, all the running instances phoenix.exe to only one core & it will reduce usage. I tried it & its working.
Only way to set affinity now is through task manger & selecting the particular phoenix.exe.
But the affinity setting is temporary & it goes back to all core , if stop mining & start mining used.

This affinity feature, to run every instance of phoenix.exe to particular cpu core must be implemented & it must be saved.
So, no need to change every time, miner start or stops.

@Kiv
Please add the affinity option to phoenix & poclbm.

How do you know what the right mem speed is?  1/3 gpu clock?
The maximum speed for 5870 card comes with mem clk=1/3 of core clk.
I am getting 430+ Mhash/s
