142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] How to Enable 2FA using Google Authenticator! on: October 02, 2018, 01:53:00 AM
Please correct me if I'm wrong:

  • There is no 2FA option for Bitcointalk.
  • Google authenticator 2FA (I think it's called time based 2FA?) is flawed as it assumes your computer is clean at the time of 2FA activation, if there is some kind of malware on your computer it could simply steal your 2FA key (secret key)

-If you were to give a single piece of advice to a new crypto project, what would it be? (I'm aware this question could be a comedy goldmine, but please, restrain yourselves to serious answers)

Trust no one except your gut.

-What's the most common way you've discovered a new project in the past?
1. This forum altcoin ann section
2. googling for made up coin name

-Airdrops: a good way to enter a project's ecosystem or just an avalanche of different trash coins? How do you tell?
You don't, just claim everything you can and you may get lucky.

-Noticed that bounty campaigns were pretty popular. What's the thing you hate the most about them?

Lack of clear rules/ instructions, not enough automation.

145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Most secure OS on: October 02, 2018, 01:27:49 AM
That's a good question. I would probably say some king of GNU/ Linux is a good bet. Just be sure to keep it up-to-date and don't install anything from unofficial repositories and follow good practices. Some hardening won't hurt too. On other hand I think Windows is the least secure OS right now when Secunia PSI is no longer available, I don't know how to use my Windows PC without this piece of software as there is no way to keep everything updated with latest security patches unless you manually update everything which is close to impossible in my case as I have a lot of software installed, I'm using this particular computer since 2011.

So start out small and work your way up.
What is your opinion?

Sell everything and invest in projects you believe in.
I asked my relative who did a lot of bad things to me and our family as a whole to do exactly this - sell our flat that was vacant [we were living overseas] and invest 1/4 money in BTC, XMR, ETH and some shitcoin. Of course their answer was NO. Now we have nothing, no, sorry, we have our flat - we are living in conditions equal or worse than homeless shelters offer  Angry.
147  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do with scammers on: October 02, 2018, 01:04:20 AM
I saw 70-80% ico are scam which are not reliable .they do smart work and making projects by invester and advisers and after not giving token ,making scami .what to do with them. Have you ever fallen in scams ? I am fallen some time .

I've lost money two times, both times it was because of my health problems + scam/ fraud or very unprofessional behaviour from 3rd party services that I dealt with.

It's heartbreaking for me.

What to do with them? Force them to repair the damage. I don't really believe in punishments, if it's possible to repair the damage (and at least in one of my cases it's possible) it should be enough. I don't how longer I'll manage to live, but this money could be used by my family... And we really need money, I won't go into details but if I would go public with what we've been through we would be featured in TV  Shocked
148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Maxcoin: how to make $100,000 with just $100 on: October 02, 2018, 12:51:13 AM
Value of Maxcoin now = 0.10$.

Investing 100$ in Maxcoin = 1000 maxcoins.

When Maxcoin value goes to 100$, your investment = 100,000$.

Calculate for yourself what happens when Maxcoin goes to 1000$...

P.S.: this is not about 'if'. It is about 'When'!

You could make $100 000 with $100 investment into Maxcoin, but this way:
  • 1. Solo (GPU) mine it during launch - there was Ddos attack on pools few hours after launch, so with $100 investment you could mine some blocks
  • 2. Dump everything you mine as fast as possible
149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - Reporting Missing Coins on: October 02, 2018, 12:28:18 AM
Completely forgot about this thread, I didn't send that form off but have been in contact with police for the last year about the situation. I've been told the court hearing has been pushed back to a later date, is there much point completing that form and sending it off now? As the police have told me it's unlikely I'll get anything back, even though now they have evidence of my lost funds.

I think you should send the form.
I wouldn't rely on police, they may not have all the info.
Even if chances of getting funds back are slim I think it's worth sending the form as it may have impact on the trial, I'm not sure how amount stolen/ scammed will be calculated, maybe it will be based on these forms.
Bigger amount = longer sentence.
Maybe when faced with long sentence lost funds will magically reappear  Huh
Good luck.

This interface is a fork of EtherDelta with a ton of improvements

Looks like one improvement they're missing is a warning about tokens with same name.
I think somebody should contact them and EtherDelta and inform about this scam, they should do something to make scammer's life tad more difficult.

152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin bring an end to Paypal? on: October 01, 2018, 11:32:24 PM
In my opinion, using Paypal is more complicated than using Bitcoin. Money from Paypal will usually go to the bank within 2-4 business days (excluding holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays), which may be longer. So I see Bitcoin as the fastest and most reliable payment gateway.
Bitcoin running on blockchain  is very fast, safe and there is no third party who will receive payment for being in between the sender and receiver unlike the other digital payment option where there is a third party who receive fees for providing services to both sender and receiver. If bitcoin as expected take over the payment transaction will really affect the  fortune of other payment options like paypal and others. They may update to a blockchain  to remain relevant.

I'm pretty sure you guys come from country where credit/debit/payment cards are widespread, accessible and in use since many, many years ago.
Well, I'm from country where in the 90s and 00s it was difficult to get a credit card, it was stuff reserved only for the wealthiest and (big) majority of shops didn't accept them.
When internet gained popularity most of the transactions were done by cash on delivery or bank transfers. And number 1 rule for e-shopping was to choose cash on delivery because it was safer than bank transfer: you wouldn't have to pay until the goods arrived. Of course it didn't prevent scams where you opened the package to find a brick or bunch of potatoes  Shocked instead of goods you ordered, but it was way safer than bank transfer - and I find bank transfer closest to bitcoin transaction.
Today when I opened youtube app I got a video of another scam in my feed and guess what: it involved bank transfer, this time electronic one as electronic bank transfers are most popular way of paying online today in my country. Electronic bank transfer is instantaneous and as direct as it can be: from bank to bank. It also means if you get scammed there is no one who can help you (except police, but they don't care).
So yeah, Paypal delays may be irritating, some of their practices are almost fraud (I wouldn't ever use Paypal for really big transaction), card fees may be big issue (in my country they are very high) but having 3rd party involved is also good thing when something goes wrong.
I still remember an anecdote from 2013 or 2014 where someone was trying to pay via Bitcoin online to some big online retailer/ service provider and there were some problems with the payment and when he contacted support they told him "we can't help you, you have to call Bitcoin and ask them for helpShocked Roll Eyes

that one is just horrible to fill out by, similar like the horror captchas where you have to support traffic AI teaching,

but the one got is asking for violence.

These captchas killed Rapidshare, the biggest file hosting site in the world, so yeah, they were pretty tough.

Hey, I forgot to send my KYC verification documents earlier, it's stressful experience for me because I don't feel comfortable sending copies of my documents to any company (it's generally illegal in my country for company to ask for this), is it OK to obscure part of my I'd with piece of paper saying "For Colors KYC use" or something along these lines?
For the Pre-TGE#1 you can submit ETH first with just your email and password.

This unfortunately doesn't answer my question if this kind of protection against unlawful usage of my ID's is OK?
Anyway I wasn't able to submit my KYC info because all I got was this message:

One day, they may even want to ban Internet and anything related.

Have you heard about ACTA2?
You surely remember big protests against ACTA, it did work and they backed off, but as we can see only for some time.
I don't think anyone knows what ACTA2 impact will be exactly, but some are really thinking it may be the end of the Internet as we know.
I've been discussing this with my family yesterday and I'm thinking about buying something like Mikrotik router (1W of power) and joining/ building mesh network.
156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2016/17 on: October 01, 2018, 05:40:20 PM
Yep agreed with you, atletico madrid is always have a good defense since last year. The thing is Barcelona also got draw on the last match, so the points is still same.
When Barca gets a draw (especially with less spectacular rival) your goal is not to keep the status quo but to exploit their mistake because despite that season is long such things as Barcelona losing points doesn't happen very often and it may not happen again soon.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto for travelling on: October 01, 2018, 05:29:32 PM
I read somewhere sometimes ago about an an airport or an aviation company that accepts bitcoin from its customers. There are also so many other, where other coins and not only bitcoin are accepted. We are gradually tending towards the time, most especially when virtually every translations, both online and offline are paid for using cryptocurrency. With time, things will get better.

I heard about many bitcoin powered payment cards, with such card you could pay everywhere where card payments are accepted plus you could just take cash out of ATM if you need. You may say that even with such card you're losing because there is conversion between BTC<->fiat currency of the country you're visiting - yes, that's true, but I'm seeing more and more shops that advertises that they are offering card payments without currency conversion, meaning you pay in your card/ account currency without conversion, so if BTC will get added as one of the currencies you'll have ability to pay with bitcoins via payment card.

159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin bring an end to Paypal? on: October 01, 2018, 05:18:46 PM
for example one of the problems people are facing is to dump their money for bitcoin. many have money in their Paypal account and would love to use it. Paypal can offer a service for a fee so that people can do it on their platform.
in short they may even become bigger with bitcoin!

Well there is one thing that can happen - Paypal may start accepting BTC just like they accept many different fiat currencies.
As for buying bitcoins via Paypal I'm not sure if you can do a currency exchange in Paypal? Or are there any currency exchanges that accept paypal? Because if answer to either of these questions is yes then it would make buying BTC possible with paypal funds. But I don't think that could become one of Paypal's more important services.
