And like it or not, Hong Kong is part of China, so I expect that the Chinese ban of Bitcoin to be applied here too.

Hong Kong is still more British than it is Chinese.  But, hey, don't let facts get in the way of a forum thread.

so it's not worth it

Well it definitely won't make any money if you don't turn it on.  You could have had a few days mining already.  Even if you're selling the Cube, why not mine with it until someone buys it?
1403  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: December 19, 2013, 10:14:59 AM
I like MinePeon, I really do, but I've given up on it.

The Pi just isn't fast enough.  It can't proxy and run USB miners at the same time.  Even with the DLink 7-port which is considered to be THE USB hub for the Pi.  First my Block Erupter dies, then eventually the Jalapenos give up.  Of course, the NIC on the Pi is USB, so that craps out eventually too.  It's not a power issue, everything is running off a 750W ATX PSU.

Everything runs perfectly when attached to my TPLink router running OpenWRT with bfgminer 3.8.1 on it - the only difference I see is the TPLink's USB isn't broken, and it has a proper ethernet interface.

I'm still keen to test the BBB version of MinePeon, too.

Newflash! cgminer and libusb being shit again, and man reinvents wheel in new 4 sided shape, possible link?  More news at 10!

1405  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Off Topic : cgMiner 3.7.2 and Windows 8.1 on: December 18, 2013, 09:53:00 PM
1. I'm trying to get an MSI Z87-G45 mb running Win8.1 to mine with 7 cards but it only mines with 5.  Windows Device Manager recognizes all 7 cards.  Any ideas on how I can get cards 6 and 7 to mine  Huh
Use Linux, Windows doesn't support 7 GPUs.
Funny then, why are there several motherboards made expressly to run 7 graphics cards???
Maybe because not everyone uses Windows?  Huh

Except the vast majority of the world.

Whatever you want - chase your tail.  Windows doesn't support 7 GPUs, period.  Whatever you think doesn't change that fact.

Motherboards may have 7 PCI-E slots, doesn't mean they're made to run 7 GPUs.  Other things use PCI-E - RAID cards, sound cards, NICs...

So, yeah, use Linux.
1406  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [UK GROUP BUY] ASICminer Cube group buy #9 on: December 18, 2013, 09:35:37 PM

A decent PSU is a bit expensive. im using the Corsair Cx750M £68. its upto the job for 2x non overclock cubes

You're lucky.  My CX750 doesn't power one Cube.
1407  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Raspberry Pi.... how reliable is it? on: December 18, 2013, 02:28:37 PM
If you're running hubs and miners off the supplied power bricks, you're doing it wrong.

Buy a low power ATX PSU, make up adapter cables, run everything off those.  The ATX supplies are more efficient, and don't die after a month.

Same as any other R9 280x card, within the usual tolerances.

KnC Neptune draw 2.2kW at the Wall

at least here in Europe we have a 16A/3k6W limit per phase and fuse,

UK is in Europe.  We have 30A per ring main, 13A per socket.   There is 100A single phase to everyone's houses here.

You could run two Neptunes per ring, and still have plenty of spare current for your normal stuff.  My house has two rings (it's a small 3-bed of 1100sqft).  So, I could run 4x Neptunes with plenty of power to spare.

Your information is inaccurate.
1411  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Now that Bitcoin prices just plummeted, what will happen to difficulty adjustment on: December 18, 2013, 01:05:29 PM
I've ~80GH now.  I pay nothing for electricity.  I'll be mining until these things burn out and stop working.
1412  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Block Erupter Cube on: December 18, 2013, 11:59:24 AM
These things are REALLY picky about power supplies.  Mine wouldn't run off my Corsair CX750.  It does run off an old Dell 875W PSU.

There's lots of info in the thread in Custom Hardware about PSUs.
1413  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: December 18, 2013, 11:52:58 AM
Do I have to type anything in for Minepeon to recognise ASIC block eruptors?

I have one plugged in through a DLINK DUB-H7 powered hub at the moment but its says:

wlan0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

wlan0 is for a wifi dongle, so has nothing to do with the BEs.

If you've got the USB Block Erupters, then just add -S all to the command line, before the -c <config> part.  Assuming you're running bfgminer 3.8.0, of course.
1414  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: From Laptop to Minepeon on: December 18, 2013, 11:36:14 AM

Let me know your thoughts.

Plug it back in to the laptop.

I'm running about 70GH locally, and the Pi can't cope (ASICMiner Cube, 2x ASICMiner Blades, 2x Jalapeno and a few other USB miners).

The Pi has a fit, so I'm now running off a Celeron NUC running Ubuntu 13.04 Server.  It doesn't break a sweat, and only uses 11W of power.
1415  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: December 18, 2013, 11:30:55 AM
I've been having fun with my Cube.  The CX750 I have (which runs my two V1 Blades fine) won't run the Cube - the Cube shows all X.

I'm running the Cube at the moment off an old Dell workstation PSU - it runs OK on this at Low speed, but at High it just sits there, eventually reboots and shows all X again.  Though, the Dell PSU only has 18A per rail.

So, I've ordered a few 10000uF caps and PCI-E extension leads, and will make up a 'capacitive leads' and see how that goes with the CX750.

I've also replaced the snow-blower stock fan with a SilentTyphoon 1500rpm unit, which is MUCH quieter and moves more air.
1416  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [UK GROUP BUY] ASICminer Cube group buy #9 on: December 18, 2013, 10:04:44 AM
Mine seems to be running now OK off an old Dell PSU. Still needs a cold restart after changing any settings.  It also still dies on High, but I think that's a limitation of the PSU which only has 18A per rail. More PSU investigation required.

Also noticed the cube works better on Slush's proxy than off BFG' one which is opposite to the V1 Blades I have.
1417  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [UK GROUP BUY] ASICminer Cube group buy #9 on: December 17, 2013, 07:07:03 PM
Well got my Cube up and running.  Eventually.

Seems it doesn't like proxying through my OpenWRT router, works OK through MinePeon on the Pi.  Seem to go SICK every time I try High speed mode, too.  Which means power cycling it, because otherwise it sticks with all Xs.

Edit: I think it's a power issue, the cube is pulling more than 30A, because my bench supply won't power it.  Running the other two Blades and a Jalapeno should be possible with 75A on the 12V, but apparently something is going on...

More investigation required...

The mini-blades come loose in shipping.  Try reseating them.
1419  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: V2 blade, Yellow light on ethernet? [Bounty for resolution] on: December 17, 2013, 03:32:37 PM
Yellow light is normal, it's the ethernet link light.  Please PM me for bounty address.

If you're mining BTC with a GPU, you're doing it wrong.
