The night is young my friend, it will come to pass. Wink

Sure, agreed, but that won't change the fact that probably some people out there committed a suicide because of what happened. Smiley

There should be a regulatory body to ensure coins comply with a set of minimum standards.

You really understood the sense of crypto, didn't you ?  Cheesy

Sounds funny, but I was implying this in my previous comment.
1402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin developer offers a $10k bet to a LTC troll :) on: August 18, 2016, 11:06:44 AM
Ooops, we have another outcome:

Deal. Won't be added in even 120 days  Cheesy

120 days it is then.
This deal is both ways, right? So if it does get added to GDAX within 120 days from today, then you owe me $10K in BTC?

bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc, sometimes its better when you just not talk too much. Let us see if you will honour the bet (though I highly doubt it).
1403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin developer offers a $10k bet to a LTC troll :) on: August 18, 2016, 11:02:14 AM
Can you please send me the $10k in BTC in advance? Why wait for confirmation when I already gave you the prophecy?

You accepted the bet and now is the time to act, instead keep posting more yada yada.

Spartak maybe we should have a deadline until when betting and duration is allowed.

I think that TheMage is currently the most suitable to be the escrow of the bet. I also think that TheMage should provide a BTC address to where losh11 (as he is the one who proposed the bet) should send the funds first. After that, bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc should have 5 days (I think its a fair deadline?) until he send the exact amount to the escrow. Sounds good?
1404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin developer offers a $10k bet to a LTC troll :) on: August 17, 2016, 01:48:53 PM
This would have been an interesting bet if they had escrowed that amount (the old but gold: put your money where your mouth is): my guess is that litecoin will be listed at GDAX but the bet won't be honoured.

I think its safe to say that they are still in process of negotiations, so it is still unclear if the bet will be honoured. Smiley

I think now that they mess with alt coins we will see LTC and likely others added. I doubt LTC will die, but it will remain stable/boring for years to come.

You are probably right, but if we have few more failures like the DAO, then people could say "We had enough of this", and turn back on "stable" currencies. I believe LTC is one of them. Smiley
1405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin developer offers a $10k bet to a LTC troll :) on: August 17, 2016, 01:37:55 PM
Satoshi Lite is a director(or something big at GDAX)

That one reason is enough, im sure it will get listed there

Lee is director of engineering at GDAX, but I don't think it can be considered as one of the main reasons for Litecoin to be listed there. I am 100% sure that he is not taking advantage with his position on the exchange!
1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Litecoin developer offers a $10k bet to a LTC troll :) on: August 17, 2016, 01:28:55 PM
I like Litecoin for several reasons and that is why I will always want the best to the people involved in its development. There are a lot of users who are trolling it though! A thread called "Litecoin: 3 outcomes" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1582765.0) was started by dballing (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=342783), were several users continued to bash the coin. Looks like one of the LTC developers had enough and offered a $10k bet to a guy who said that Litecoin will never be listed on GDAX or (note this) Coinbase...

The reason for starting this thread is because:

1. I don't want this to sink into oblivion.
2. I think that people should respect Litecoin.

Comparing ETH (which basically screwed up with hundreds of millions $ funds in a few months) with LTC is a nonsense. Many of you are lookling only at the current prices (please don't give me the tech yada yada) and only few of you are asking how is that happened. You are forgetting that this is not all about profits and technology, this is for a greater good and there must be a mutual respect between everybody! Charlie Lee is one of the pioneers in cryptoworld and it must be respected by everyone, because he did nothing wrong. He rightfully condemned the ETH's fork and he also said that it will never happen with LTC. Do you know what that means, you ignorant ETH shills? He is fighting for DECENTRALISATION!

So, what really happened? А guy who most likely was an LTC supporter (his nickname is bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=163913) said:

Ltc is useless and will never ba added to gdax or coinbase. Never.

Then a Litecoin developer (seems like he is indeed part of the LTC dev team, you can check his history) losh11 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=135929) answered:

I'd be willing to send you $10K in BTC if Litecoin isn't added to GDAX in the next 60 days.
Deal?

And I guess we have a deal:

I'd be willing to send you $10K in BTC if Litecoin isn't added to GDAX in the next 60 days.
Deal?
Deal. Won't be added in even 120 days  Cheesy

Let us see the outcome... Grin
1407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin: 3 outcomes on: August 17, 2016, 01:23:09 PM
don't feed the trolls my friend.
bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc is a desperate LTC holder who thinks he can make litecoin price go further down by spamming on the forum full of negative posts about litecoin then when he buys enough LTC then he starts the reverse strategy by spamming good things about litecoin.

you can see these steps in his history, i bet in a short while he starts saying litecoin is going to be $25 you can see this in his topic from 6 months ago and then go from that post to a couple of months back to see him saying price to sub $2 Cheesy

I'm not feeding anybody, bud... I am even creating a new topic about the bet as we speak. I'd like this guy to really take the bet and we will see what happens. Cheesy
1408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO FAIL on: August 17, 2016, 12:55:54 PM
I like how you think, but its not necessary to talk about long term "value". There are also a lot of "day traders" and I was mainly referring to them. On the other hand, my personal opinion (well, it may sound like a conspiracy theory, but its what I think) is that Bitcoin (by saying BTC I am referring to the entire market of cryptocurrencies) is still "working", because some "people" are still allowing it. And if we want things to stay this way, then we'd better not screwing with ICO's/crowdsales/whatever, because some authorities can find their reasons to get more deeply involved and then we are all f*cked.

Hoho, if he is so wealthy why he created those sites(uphold) for ico, hardly to understand, and he never helped this project if the price is so low.

Wealthy? According to some (old) sources he's at least $50 million in debt...

http://www.socketsite.com/archives/2016/07/halsey-minors-20-million-mansion-finally-sells-for-a-4-million-loss.html

and that turdpin guy too!

this looks like a case of VC guys trying to flip a fast buck, and with little creative efforts.

I'm talking about people who "invested" in VOX. The fact that Minor squandered probably over a billion $ in the years following CNET's sale is another (and painful one) story. Smiley

Oh, wow...

1415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Voxelus Investors Unite To Ask For A Refund on: August 17, 2016, 10:53:34 AM
How much BTC they gathered via the crowdsale?

Voxelus, the world’s first end-to-end virtual reality content creation platform and marketplace, has completed its private pre-sale of 1.2 million Voxels (VOX) for a total of 1,022 BTC ($350,000 USD at the close of the pre-sale).

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1235683.0

1022BTC, you can read it above. Fortunately I didn't join this site, because I didn't trust the google voice founder hype, and my decision was turned out to be correct. Sorry for others.

Jesus! I've noticed when the crowdsale started and I knew that they gathered $300-$400,000 from it, but I didn't knew that only 1.2 million coins were sold. Huh This means that the VOX market cap should be about 26,827 BTC (or about $15.6Mn). Basically, it was never near its crowdsale price (even when there was a pump 4-5 months ago)? That's a quite big failure...
1416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO FAIL on: August 17, 2016, 10:45:14 AM
Personally, I think DAO is a joke, from a certain point of view, it personally split the ETH, the emergence of ETH and ETC

That was not intended as a joke. It was a good experiment. But it failed due to a bug in the software implementation.

As if it can be expected that complex code will not contain a bug or an exploit.  That was the first failure but it is a *fundamental* failure: one cannot write complex software from scratch, without having it used, and the guarantee that no bug or exploit will exist.
Normal software gets around this, by updates, when bugs or exploits are detected.  But, by definition, smart contracts cannot be updated because they are a contract which has, of course, to remain in place as it was originally convened (unless you make the update part of the contract, which opens even more the Pandora's box of potential bugs and exploits).

The principle of complex, Turing complete, bug free and exploit free smart contracts from the start, unstoppable and unalterable, is an oxymoron.

Moreover, the *economic function* of the DAO was ridiculous, as I posted earlier.  There's nothing the DAO could economically accomplish which simple crowd funding cannot accomplish.   It just got vastly more complicated, where some privileged got more to say about other people's money.

I really wonder what was the sense of this experiment, of which the disastrous outcome was evidently predictable.  Did one really need to mess with $150 million to find out the obvious ?

Keep in mind that not only the DAO got hurt, but the entire market. Before the attack, market cap of the cryptocurrencies was about $14.2Bn and it was shrinked to ~$12.5Bn in a ~week. Bitcoin was at its peak since the beginning of 2014. Look what I've said 2 days before the attack:

You can't just take $200Mn from the people, without doing vast amount of researches on your product (though I admit again that I didn't make any deep researches on ETH or DAO)! This could kill all the crypto!

... and what Hueristic answered:

...This could kill all the crypto!...

LOL, not a chance in hell. When it crashes and burns it'll just get more peops interested.

I believe its safe to say that the DAO failure caused a few hundred million $ (quite possible to be even over a billion $) in losses. Its not like I'm bragging or anything, but I was expecting this to happen and it was the main reason to start this thread. Projects are coming and going all the time, but when it comes to a project with such funds, then we should all worry about on what may happen in future.

I think that there are some laws, which could be implemented if it is a scam
My point stands, people who demand a refund on ICOs hosted here are delusional.

You're right about this one.

P.S. Btw, Halsey Minor is a US citizen so... Smiley
1419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Voxelus Investors Unite To Ask For A Refund on: August 17, 2016, 09:20:33 AM
You understand hopefully that there is probably 0 liability towards investors from an ICO hosted with Bitcoins. This is the reason it's called the new wild west and this is the reason why some ICOs multiply peoples investment, but some go to 0 on the long run.

Acting hurt and demanding money back will you get nowhere, I can guarantee you this. There is no government or regulations protecting you here.  Either take the loss and move on or hold on to your investment.

Also keep in mind that the only promises that were made, were about making a VR marketplace  a reality and that they will accept VOX while trying to move it mainstream (if I recall correctly, since the last time I read about VOX was pre-launch). They can not promise you a profit or that the price will rise.

Voxels was a crowdsale, not an ICO, and I think that there are some laws, which could be implemented if it is a scam. But I believe that it is still above the crowdsale's price (though it was pumped & dumped 4-5 months ago)?
1420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH Foundation was basically caught trading stolen coins in exchanges on: August 17, 2016, 08:19:20 AM
When Barry declared that he bought is first altcoin with ETC then it says a lot more of how he hates ETH than the love he has for ETC. It is an act of sending the Ethereum foundation a message that there are people in the Bitcoin community that are willing to support the original chain to express that they are against rolling back, tweaking, and changing transaction histories in blockchains. I believe Charles Hoskinson is also of the same mindset when he declared and committed to his full support of ETC even he says he is in it for academic purposes.

Litecoin's creator Charlie Lee was also against the hard fork. I think back in 2014 he said that LTC will never be hard forked. Chandler Guo is another serious ETC supporter. He first threatened ETC with a 51% attack, but looks like he recently is backing it up.
