If you're patient, p2pool pays best over time.

If you prefer a traditional pool, look into kano's pool.
1422  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 13, 2015, 04:39:43 AM
Ya the jury is still out on  SSD drive,  I have setup one of the 14 S5 going in next week will run them for the next 4-5 days them ship them to the data center.  Then fly down and install the S5 and remove the older s1 and s2.

So far the S5 is running at spec no issues at all, but did change the queue to 0.  They have created a user config file now they refer to for the queue settings.

Not to bad.

I'd be interested to know how well the group of S5s hash over time. As it stands right now, I have to power cycle my S3s every week or so, otherwise they slow down as a group by more than 10% after about two weeks. A soft reboot won't fix it either, it has to be a hard power cut. Makes me wish I had gotten switch duty circuit breakers.

I know my GetBlockTemplate latency went way down once I switched to SSD, but that was multiple bitcoin versions ago, so maybe the newer versions don't have that problem.

You know, this must be a Bitmain firmware problem.  I was running my S4s on p2pool for quite a few days, and I noticed a disturbing trend.  The hash rate starts to drop and drop, until running at 1.5 TH/s or less.  Today it came on quite suddenly.  I'm pretty sure this morning they were running at 2 TH/s, and when I came home from work, one was at 1.3 TH/s and one was at 1.5 TH/s.  Soft reboots usually fix them.  But I can't have them running that low when I'm not around to baby sit them, so they are back to ckpool. Sad

I remember my S2s used to do this as well.  They just didn't like running on p2pool, and would eventually start to behave erratically.

I could never get my S3s to work properly on p2pool.

M

When that happens s, it means 1 of the 4 hash boards has locked up. Used to happen to me every day or 2 with the old firmware. The newly released firmware has completely solved that, all my S4s are working great now. The only issue is 225mhz doesn't work properly on p2pool for some reason, have to drop to 218.

The new firmware will also lower your power consumption as there was previously a bug with 1 of the hash boards being locked at 0750 no matter what you set. Now they're all at 0725.
1423  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 13, 2015, 03:29:10 AM
Yes, I've seen that before on the old firmware. Hasn't happened yet with the new firmware.
1424  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 12, 2015, 09:10:08 PM
I observed reduced hashrate and rebooted the miner, i see -------- -------- -------- -------- -------- in chain 1.

Is the chain 1 dead?

I just upgraded the firmware to see if it can fix the issue. But NO.

Any solution for this?

With the old firmware I had a chain turn off every day or 2. With this new firmware, it hasn't happened yet.

You need to physically power down the machine, and turn it back on. Should be smooth sailing afterwards with the new firmware. Be aware that no amount of soft resets will fix --------- chains, has to be turned off.
1425  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 12, 2015, 05:12:02 PM
Greed, impatience & lust for profit can often temporarily blind people to reality, causing them to wander around from pool to pool in search of faster & greater profits, until eventually their vision has cleared & it becomes clear that not only are there no fast profits to be made in mining, but also that p2pool is the highest paying pool there is anyway.

See you soon Chupacabras  Wink
Patman, I never said this is not the best pool. It is just dry cause of the users hoping habits. I will be back when i see stability. Thanks.
First, I really don't understand your reply to my earlier explanation of why your suggestions wouldn't work.  Now you are getting more and more ridiculous with your claims... especially that crap about you having a petahash here.  Do you honestly think that we either don't remember or are unable to use the forum itself to look back through your posts?  You came around here in late January asking all kinds of questions on how to setup a node... how to setup a fee for your node... how to setup your miners to be effective on p2pool.  You were all excited about having 5.5TH/s running on the pool.  That's a VERY far cry from the claimed 1PH/s.

You've been around less than a month and have no concept of how the pool works.  You then go ahead and claim instability in the pool due to pool hopping - which both kano and I have explained to you is not what's going on.  We've suggested you actually learn how p2pool and PPLNS pools in general work.  Your response is to come back and call us stupid and that you can't be bothered "waisting" your time answering.

So go ahead... take your fictional petahash and leave.  Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Yep, too expensive for what it is (used) unfortunately.

I really want to pick one up, especially since it's in Montreal, so hopefully your friend decides on a more reasonable price before I end up buying something else.

GLWS!
1427  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 12, 2015, 01:28:56 PM
Yeah, I'm fairly certain someone with 1PH of hardware would be smart enough to properly reply when quoting someone. It sure is nice to dream, though.

BTW, you p2pool mining payout history is visible in your BTC begging signature.  Roll Eyes
1428  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 12, 2015, 04:51:37 AM
To the DEV.
This is not hop proof.

Set up that user who GHS drop for 30 min or more lose there shares and his shares will be distribute among the users who stay longest.
This will make it hop proof and people will stay or go for good.

I was in P2pool for 6 months and it was the pool that pay the most, but since the bitcoin drop to 200 dollars it just died. If you look at the history 3 block per day and some days up to 5 blocks. I guest those days a long gone.

Thanks.
It's PPLNS - learn about how PPLNS works - rather than making guesses based on small random samples that are not representative of the population and then coming up with some ludicrous idea about how to screw up a PPLNS pool.

But I guess, more importantly, learn a little about p2pool.
No node except your own node knows anything about your mining except when you find a share-chain share.
So your idea means that any p2pool node with less than something like 20THs will never get paid ... yay good idea there Tongue

I was going to take my time to answer you back, nut honestly I cant waist my time.  You are just dumb to what is going on. The best of luck for you guys.

Yeah, everyone else is dumb. It's surely not you who is dumb.  Roll Eyes You make absolutely no sense.

Get the fuck out and stop wasting "your" time.  Roll Eyes

Hi klondike,

I live close to Montreal, and would be interested in picking one up if the price is right.
1430  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 11, 2015, 10:06:01 PM
Sorry Cypher_BLC, it seems I misread your posts.

With the latest firmware, all hash boards are running at a voltage of 0725, but they can't be adjusted.

With previous firmwares, hash board on J7 is stuck at 0750, but the other 3 are adjustable.

Correct?

If so, we need to figure out a way to fix the newest firmware. It is so much more stable than the old one, a great improvement in my opinion.

Do you guys think this is good stats for two ANTMINER S3's and one S5 ?
Why on Gods green earth are you crunching diff 2048 shares ?

I would recommend setting the S3's at diff 256 and the S5's at 1024.

Yeah drop down the S3 difficulties and you'll get more balanced earnings.

Are you sure it would change his earning? From what I understand, it shouldn't. He'd only get a more accurate hash rate reading pool-side.
1432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 11, 2015, 09:38:50 PM
hi guys,
Bitmains last S4 firmware has a HUGE BUG.(or they do this in their knowledge for sell alot of S5) We cannot change voltage !!!
if you want to do downclock you must to use previus version.
initramfs.bin.SD-20150129.tar this version is Bad for voltage settings...

THIS IS CONFIRMED ON MY ALL S4'S. IF YOU WANT TO DO DOWNCLOCK DONT UPDATE THIS FIRMWARE.!!!
this firmware making fixed voltage 0,725 V. this is BAD FOR WATTAGE ! BUT FPGA CHAIN1 PROBLEM IS GONE Smiley
(for me doesnt matter, i fixed chain1 problem myself)

BITMAIN, WHY DID THIS? WE NEED CONFIGURABLE VOLTAGE AND WE PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THAT !!!
FIX THAT SHT !!

What was your solution for fixing the chain 1 issue?

I haven't tested lowering the voltage with this firmware yet, but hopefully bitmain will fix it if it is broken. The new firmware works MUCH better than the old one.

Smiley Turkish solution :
seperate pic12F's J7 (chain1) connected tx signal from main tx signal and give tx signal from neighbor hashboard to j7 connected hashboard's pic12F. Smiley then "islem tamam" (volaaa) all boards are same voltage.

That all flew over my head LOL. Could you give more details for the simple folk like me?

0750 V means your S4 works much higher wattage...

All in my posts my friend:

No, I understand all of that. What I don't understand is how to use your solution: "seperate pic12F's J7 (chain1) connected tx signal from main tx signal and give tx signal from neighbor hashboard to j7 connected hashboard's pic12F"

Any way you could clarify that? Bonus points for pictures.  Cheesy

Should be avoided.

Hello,

It looks like my Antminer S4 is hacked by someone via SSH i think. I can log into the S4 via the webpage. I can see that it is mining but not at the pools i set. Miningrigrentals confirms this, it says there is no connection.

I already tried a factory reset, update firmware via webinterface, firmware on the SD card.

Nothing works, the static IP adres keeps in the S4, and i can't change it. Login via SSH  is not possibele because the password is changed.

Need help, who knows what to do?

Is your miner not behind a firewall? It should be impossible to SSH into it from outside your network.

To be certain, I recommend pull it's micro SD card out, and re-imaging the firmware. You can download a copy of the image in the second post of this thread, provided by dogie. Use windisk32 to write the image to the SD card.

Too bad the controller is such an issue, would be a perfect noob home miner otherwise.

Its still pretty much plug and play when purchased with a preflashed Pi. Not as easy as an SP20 but compared to the Blade / Cube days its relatively straight forward.

Ah, got it. Thought it was more involved than that.

Thanks for the review, Phil. Looking forward to more stats!

I have, no reason not to. Just make sure you don't get a shit quality adapter made of 22AWG wire.
1439  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 09, 2015, 07:15:19 PM
I see an influx of hashing power on the horizon from BAN - those poor guys are starting to cotton on by the looks of it......maybe that'll help break this block Wink
Maybe... but the vast majority of people mining on pools where they can set payout thresholds, only need to wait a few confirmations and so forth will just fail to understand p2pool.  They'll come, get angry that they aren't getting paid every 2 hours because their ADHD is kicking in and they're getting twitchy Smiley

This is how it's always been - but there are always some who get it & stay. We get the cream........ Cheesy

Heh, good way to look at it.

Come on Mr. Block, come out of hiding! This is getting depressing!
1440  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How are Thermaltake PSU Brand in mining? on: February 09, 2015, 07:10:51 PM
They are hit and miss. They also change OEMs on a model without warning, so what was once a good PSU might now be a bad PSU, or vice versa. A good rule of thumb would be to avoid it unless you can find a positive review of it on jonnyguru.com
