5. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, diversity is the way of winners in crypto space

No!

I keep telling people that diversification doesn't work in crypto.

It's a rule taken straight from traditional investing where you diversify between stocks arnd real estate and so on so if there's a crash on one of the markets you don't lose everything and may profit somewhere else.

Crypto is crypto. It doesn't matter if you buy one shitcoin or the other if Bitcoin crashes they will al crash.
1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BUY 32 ETH on: November 10, 2020, 01:13:29 PM
In a cz tweet he said ("" I might buy 32 #ETH, just for the cause. Not financial advice. Just supporting ETH development "")

I might buy 32 ETH, not financial advice, just bought it and trying to tell the world about it to pump the coin so I can profit. Wink

Who are you trying to fool CZ?
1443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool is nearly empty, less than 0.2MB. People still paying more 200sat/byte on: November 10, 2020, 01:00:10 PM
Electrum wallet default transaction fee for 5 blocks below is still 200sat/byte. I believe that ain't newbie sending that transaction that using 200sat/byte for fee because personally I don't manual input transaction because I don't want to manually check the preferred fee based on mempool condition by the time I want to send transaction.

I am impressed that Electrum is so bad at fee estimation.

Sadly there isn't much a user can do, if he doesn't want to look at the mempool in a third party website. There are many good options, and you could get confirmed with a 1 sat/byte.

You're lazy - you pay more. It's a rule of life. If you're too lazy to read the TOS, you lose money, too lazy to do research on an investment - you lose money, too lazy to manually set fees - lose money.

Maybe they don't care, maybe they're too dumb to know they can change the fee, maybe they have so much money to send they don't care if it's $5 or $15 per transaction.
1444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do not trade Alts with BTC these days, You will just lose on: November 08, 2020, 05:55:56 PM
Don't listen to this advice or the one that follows. You can still make money trading alts by profiting from the bounces, betting on reversals or if you are more experienced and courageous you can try your hand at shorting them. Professional traders can make money no matter which way the market goes. You just need a solid strategy and stick to it.

My question to people like you is always the same:

If altcoins react to Bitcoin's moves much slower and much weaker and the less popular the altcoin is the less chance it will even be moved by a BTC rally, what makes you think that choosing them over BTC is a better deal?

You can buy a bunch of alts, some of them will end up being scams like bitconnect, some will keep losing value over time and die or become a zombie coin trading at 1% of its ATH like BTK, RUPX and many more. Even if you hit that 10x pump coin the pump will be so fast that you probably won't even catch it. Is it really worth it?

I understand people who have a lot of BTC and want to play a bit on the altcoin market. I don't understand people who don't have Bitcoins and as newcomers chose alts over BTC.
1445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a scam airdrop? on: November 08, 2020, 05:40:36 PM
The way they're advertising it is pretty shady if you ask me.

They're saying that now the price is x, but after a certain date they'll make it 2x so buy now and profit later. This is used by scammers to assure their investors of profits when whoever knows how the market works should see they will never be able to hold that price.

They can say that from now on the price of their token will be $0.7 but for that to work somebody has to buy it. If you had a token bought for 0.5 and saw it sold for 0.7 and tried to sell it but there was nobody buying what would you do? Go to the devs and say you told me it's going to trade for 7! you promised! Grin

Most of these tokens are worthless.

1446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Trump Wins and Trump Lose tokens from Poloniex on: November 08, 2020, 05:32:34 PM
Deposits, withdrawals, and trading are now disabled due to "JoeBiden is now projected to win".
I didn't know that some dudes from TV decide who won.

They have 98-99% of votes counted depending on the state and Biden's advantage is already too big for that 1 or 2% to change anything. Even if all those votes were for Trump the results would be the same.

So Poloniex is now also turning into sports bets web site. Maybe latter also in web casino.  Could add some slots next.

Many exchanges do it. Yobit is launching pumps and dumps of their own tokens and banning people from chatbox for criticizing it. There will always be good and bad businesses.
1447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin wallet in your pocket safe? on: November 08, 2020, 05:24:32 PM
, hardware wallets are still the best for the large transfer and for the long time holding of your assets.

Thanks, but we. youngsters, are aware that hardware wallets transfer nothing, they need software app connected  to do this. They also hold nothing except priv keys. Wink

Do you need anything but your private key to access your money?

As for the app, they keep your private key safe even in case something wrong happens with the app and you're unable to use it. You can use your backup words to access the wallet even when hardware or software becomes inaccessible.

I've been using Electrum for many years and never had a problem with updates or downloads. You just have to be careful and verify files each time.
1448  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you read the TOS of a gambling site? Honest answer please. on: November 08, 2020, 04:59:22 PM
To be honest, I am not reading any TOS or disclaimer in any site that I am accessing, I will only check its security, I need to be sure that it is having a good security feature and it will not run after some months or years. I will also check if KYC is needed in this site, I don't want to send a KYC, it could be hassle for me, most importantly I will look for some review of other player, research before playing that is the good thing to do.
Well, if it's boring to read the TOS, there are shortcuts that others likely doing it too. Searching for keywords like KYC for that one worry that we have.
KYC is an inconvenience when we're gambling and it is the reason why some gamblers caught by surprise that they have to do it because they haven't seen or read the TOS.

It's much easier to read FAQ than TOS and most people choose to do that.

The only problem with choosing to read FAQ is that it's not legally compelling. They could write something else in TOS than in FAQ and confuse or cheat users so by doing it you're taking a risk but it's much smaller than simply accepting TOS without reading anything.
1449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What made yoi think of investing in bitcoin at the current market? on: November 08, 2020, 04:42:47 PM
I just wonder if you want to earn in bitcoin investment then a smart investor would invest in while bitcoin is cheaper and not the current price.

Is there any reason we can think of why people love to invest in bitcoin while market price is high?

What makes you think the current price is not cheap?

The ATH price is 20 thousand dollars. We are at 14 thousand. I could argue that compared to the ATH the current price is cheap as it's almost 30% cheaper than the top price.

I invest because we are in a bull market and based on the past performance of Bitcoin I expect the price to go beyond the last ATH in this bullish wave.

1450  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-11-06] CRA requested data on all clients Coinsquare on: November 07, 2020, 11:15:20 PM
That's going to be a lot of data. If they try to go through every single trade they'll drown themselves in numbers.

Pretty sure they'll only go after fiat transfers from and to banks and target those with the highest amount of money moved through the exchange. If they were to go after every single person who ever moved a few thousand dollars to their bank they'd need many years to do so.

Another reason why you shouldn't do KYC Wink
1451  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is Bitcoin dumping right now? on: November 07, 2020, 11:07:31 PM
Is it really a dump? People overuse this word a lot.

If it goes up by 5000 USD and then down 2000 is it a dump? I wouldn't call it that. It's a correction in an uptrend.

If it goes up by 5000 and goes down 5000 it's a fakeout or a pump and dump.

Bitcoin went from 11 to 16 thousand in 1 month but it took it about 27 days to reach 14 thousand and the last 2 thousand was a FOMO rally that took only 2 days. That's more than 30% of the total monthly growth completed in 2 days.

Moves like that are hardly natural for any coin and difficult to hold.
1452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is doing Pump & Dump before the US Election results are finalized on: November 07, 2020, 10:53:10 PM
Saying that it will dump to 9000 because of the election just stupid and proves that OP has no idea what makes or breaks bitcoin uptrends.

Uptrend did not start because of the election and the price held steady at 11 thousand for months before it went up and before the presidential campaigns launched. US presidents had nothing to do with the uptrend that  took us from 10 thousand in September to 11 thousand in October. The whole world trades bitcoin not only US citizens.

Bitcoin oftn goes up more than it should because of FOMO. We went from 11 to 14 thousand following Paypal news and beyond that because of FOMO so there's a chance we'll go back there to retest it.

The rule is that strong resistance turns into strong support after being broken so even going to back to 10 will prove to be hard and not very likely to happen.
1453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The main driving force behind bitcoin rally on: November 07, 2020, 10:36:35 PM
this pump must be related to the US elections, some people must be taking advantage of the situation to pump the price something like: "with joe Biden will be in favor of bitcoin" and coupled with the fact that numbers of infected cases in the USA have been high so people must be thinking that salvation is in bitcoin. to test if I am wrong we will observe after the elections if the price will continue to increase at this speed

LOL how come? You think people are buying Bitcoin just because they think new US president could be in favor of it even when he hasn't said anything about it? This is so far fetched.

Of course the reason for the pump is a few institutional purchases followed by PayPal adoption and then simple technical bullish confirmation of the uptrend.
1454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why btc is hurting our environment like an atomic bomb on: November 07, 2020, 04:32:04 PM
Seems to pollute more co2 than any other company.
The good old straw man argument that Bitcoin is bad for the environment.

You're comparing a whole economy built upon a number of companies to a single company.

How does Bitcoin produce anything? It's a digital coin.

What about the CO2 that you produce? You heat your home, use a computer, possibly drive a car? Maybe if you're such a CO2 freak you'll make the world better and start walking instead of driving, cut your power cables and heat up the house with solar panels?
1455  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Russian authorities make rare arrest of malware author on: November 07, 2020, 04:06:37 PM
I agree with the above that laws in Russia are very lenient and hackers aren't punished but it's also the same for other small crimes like forgeries. You can go to Russia or Ukraine and buy a driving license and then get it validated in your country, just like you do with any other document.

In Russia you can buy yourself a license allowing you to pose as an emergency vehicle. You basically put a blue light on top of your car and don't have to stop at red light anymore, just because you paid for it.

There's a saying that Russia is not a country but a state of mind.
1456  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Suggest the best strategy on: November 07, 2020, 03:39:50 PM
I'd bet big with big odds.

I found out after a while that betting small on small odds piles up to a large number of losses, that's all. A single big bet on big odds will not give you large profit but the win itself will be satisfying, even if you manage to make only 10% profit or something like that. You win - you feel better, even if the win is big. You lose you feel bad even if the loss is small.
1457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another 2017 kinda year is already around the corner on: November 06, 2020, 11:48:05 PM
It really looks like 2017 for Bitcoin but will it won't be the same for altcoins because in 2017 and 18 many alts were pumped by the ICO boom that started right when many people started thinking about realizing their profits from Bitcoin tradin. Many of these money were moved to altcoins because people thought they can make even more money investing in low market cap projects with a lot of potential. They also saw the potential for growth in the at the time overpumped BCH and XRP.

This won't happen again.

You can expect some alts to pump because of Bitcoin but most altcoins no longer follow bitcoin but react to their own development. You could see that by ETH pumping when news of 2.0 tests came out and shitcoins like XRP trading for less than thay did 2 weeks ago despite huge Bitcoin pump this week.

1458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Questions on: November 06, 2020, 11:33:52 PM
You keep asking the same question even though people have answered it and gave you links to read.

3 - Who selects/chooses randomly block forgers?

There's a group of chimps sitting in a big room and pressing buttons 24/7. Each user has a button assigned and if that button gets pressed by a monkey the reward goes to the user.

It's the same in PoW with the difference that each user has to buy a mining machine in order to get a button assigned.
1459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Questions on: November 06, 2020, 08:56:08 PM
All the answers to your questions can be googled.

Every PoS coin is a program written in a code and staking share distribution is based on that code. Like it can give you additional rewards for the age of your stake so the longer you stake the more you get.

By a conflicting blockchain you must mean a fork. In such case people who stake have to decide if they want to remain in the old chain or follow the fork just like in PoW.
1460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Service Solves This Problem on: November 06, 2020, 08:45:08 PM
I wouldn't recommend waiting for a big dump to buy BTC because you'll face some problems along the way like how to indicate a big dump.

Would a 10% be big enough? If you're waiting for a 50% it can take many years since the cycles often take a long time and we don't know if this cycle will end at 50 or 20 thousand dollars. It's possible that people waiting for a big dump will first watch Bitcoin go to 50 thousand and then crash all the way back to 20, which means they will have to pay more for their Bitcoins after the dump than they would today.

If you want to buy and hold just do it.

If you want to wait holding fiat on exchange is fairly safe because it cannot be hacked out of it. People always steal coins because fiat is easy to track.
